What has happened to Victoria Worksafe? This was once an organisation designed to support an injured worker and prosecute the company that caused the injury. Those that are involved in the Workcover industry which includes the insurance companies, so called independent assessors, Worksafe and the minister overseeing it, in my case have lost all… Read more

touch of humanity and procedural fairness for the injured worker. Even though there are service standards to provide fairness for the injured worker, Worksafe who own those standards, in my case, have refused to enforce them. I worked many years helping those in the justice system to turn their lives around from drugs and alcohol. I faced four years of bullying which included sexual harassment by a male manager along with bullying and discrimination from him and two team leaders under him. The result was a total mental breakdown ending my career. I now have Major Depressive Disorder, Severe Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Suicidal ideation. I am now no longer able to work again due to this and, myself and my family are impacted for the rest of our lives.

The company then advanced two of those involved to higher positions and treated my many years of dedication as if it was nothing. Then along came Workcover. I first lost 20% income which only lasts 130 weeks. I have now lost all income and they are looking at also ceasing medical support. We are the victims yet we are the only ones punished. The insurance company can legally do this based on one Independent Medical Report (IME) by one person who knows nothing about my history. This person is also paid by that insurance company. As such, in my mind, loyalty would lay with those paying for the service. They can talk via a video link for twenty minutes (yes a comprehensive psychiatric impairment assessment in twenty minutes) and end your financial support without even explaining themselves. Yes the Worksafe service standards state they must provide rationale behind their impairment ratings, yet in this case Worksafe who are responsible to ensure a fair and open process don’t enforce those standards. Yes they are provided medical treatment notes however all they have to do is sign that they have read them. They are required to make reference to how the information aligns with their diagnosis however nobody enforces this.

I have no shame in saying I did attempt to end my life due to this and continue to question my worth on this planet. At one low point I sent an email which was basically a suicide note to the insurance company, Worksafe, Ombudsman, the so called independent Psychiatrist, the minister and our Premier. The result was silence, not one of those involved in this system that is now solely designed to rid itself of injured workers responded, or enacted a duty of care to follow up. This to me supports the fact that they just don’t care.

I am lucky I have a supporting wife, family, G.P and Psychologist. Many people every year commit suicide due to being injured and involved in the Victorian Workcover system. This needs to stop!!!

The Victorian Government despite preaching support for mental health in March 2024, changed the Worksafe guidelines which now basically makes it impossible to have a mental health injury under Workcover. The rules have set the Whole Person Impairment Score so high that it is almost impossible to get any compensation for a lifelong mental injury. Under this system, in my case, it means that although I have a mental health injury that will impact on me for the rest of my life, I will no longer be eligible for medical and psychological support.

I lost my dignity due to no longer being able to work to support my family, I have lost several years of income and the one I love, has to live daily dealing with my mental health yet I am entitled to no compensation. It appears those in the system believe that after 130 weeks, I no longer need any support and my injury has miraculously healed.

If you have experienced a similar thing with Victorian Worksafe/Workcover system please speak up, as many voices might get those who make the decisions in this system to remember we are human beings and did not choose to be injured for life.

I employ 2 people casually. Worksafe believe they are owed over $5000 per year because i employ 2 guys casually. Worksafe is a criminal enterprise, a rort and a legislated way for government and their fat cat mates to profit off and destroy small business. Time for them to be eradicated. They are a cancer.

I can understand why this organisation is so ineffective in handling workplace-related issues for the public. In later 2020, I had the most unpleasant work experience ever, working for this organisation as a paralegal. And this was working remotely from a computer due to Covid restrictions! Endless, pointless meetings where often people's pets… Read more

were the only thing discussed, numerous and pointless work tasks, the complexity of which were exacerbated by bad communication and an impatient, rude manager, and subtle, condescending bullying from fellow staff were among the negative factors I experienced. It would have been impossible had I have had to be in the office with these people! And if you weren't in love with Daniel Andrews and the Labor Party, you had to hide your differing views. An absolute disgrace of an organisation that should be shut down. Bring on a coups!

Pathetic. My complaint of s****l harassment at the Woolworths Group (Big W Geelong) (2021) went unheard despite numerous complaints to company and Worksafe Victoria. Reported to Victoria Police (Victoria Police, Geelong) and Fair Work Ombudsmen. Deal with this. I'm contacting the media since it has been months to no avail. Disgusting. I contacted… Read more

WORKSAFE VICTORIA about this. MY WORKCOVER CLAIM WILL BE DESPUTED. WORKSAFE VICTORIA DID NOT INVESTIGATE MY COMPLAINT AND VICTORIA POLICE DID NOT DEAL WITH THIS. EACH WILL WILL BE NOTED IN FURTHER COMPLAINTS. Dirty.

Extremely uncaring & disinterested in justice – Horrendous experience. Literally take an eight page report and make some bizarre conclusion that has literally nothing to do with the report. You asked for a review and they are supposed to ring you and they don’t, they send a one line email backing themselves up. They then send you a bunch of legal acts and say you’ve got to choose one and then tell you none of them apply. The way they respond to you as called sharp short and rude.

no help and don't step in when a claim takes over 3 months and is still not finished – lodged a claim around 10 June and have been out of work due to a back injury. Work safe have allow Gallagher Bassett a 28 period to sort out my claim before it gets "soft rejected". the claim got "soft rejected" because Gallagher Bassett can't organise someone to see me for my physical injury within the 28 day period and work safe do nothing, … Read more

they dont step in to hurry them up or police them on time frames. the claim still isn't sorted its going on 4 months now. learn from my experience and find another way, get a lawyer to represent you. currently not allowed to return to work until claim is sorted. work safe don't care, a work place injury and the worker suffer while the workplace thrive and goes unchecked for 4 months. well done work safe

Never there – After working in multiple warehouses in Victoria, it quickly became apparent that employers have very little expectation of Worksafe ever making an appearance, to the point that the majority of places that I have worked in Victoria, ignore basic OH&S, and management frequently refer to OH&S as a joke. This is compounded by Victorian employees… Read more

Seriously harmed at work more than 12 months ago then it doesn’t matter – Work Safe what is the point of this authority because it is certainly not to protect employees harmed and injured at work. This organisation should change their mantra to sorry not sorry.

Can I ask why no one investigates significant health & safety issues with the site next door to us in Glen Iris? Today I reported a serious safety issue involving works to powerlines in our street (ie there was no registered spotter and it was questionable the length of the ladder that was being used & how the ladder had been secured when… Read more

accessing the power lines). No one showed up or contacted me, even after supplying photos & video verifying my claims. This is not the first time I have reported serious health & safety issues with the site next door (there is a very questionable builder that has been working on this site next door), which was under construction up until just recently. A FOI revealed that an inspector from WorkSafe dismissed other reports I made by just stating that the property was no longer under construction and did not even bother to investigate. Never mind I provided evidence substantiating my claims. Please note that even to this day the owner of the site next door is still not living in the site, as it is in darkness at night. Also even on 26 Aug 22 the builder was letting themselves into the property next door to do works (they still have keys).

WorkSafe Victoria remains condemned with the management of injured workers – This year the Rosen Review was released to improve the outcomes of injured workers in the state of Victoria within the current workers compensation process - review, coinciding with three Ombudsman reports identifying systematic corruption within the system and the 4 Corners Programs. As an injured worker I have dealt with this corrupt system… Read more

first hand. I am part of the injured workers support network and hear the other horror stories on a regular basis. The report was released with no media coverage or ministerial launch with most of the general public remaining ignorant - my advice do not get injured at work in the state of Victoria it is the most corrupt system in Australia. Many of the recommendations remain ignored such as the use of corrupt independent medical examiners denying injured workers common law access with contrived low injury percentages, Insurance staff not trained in mental health, some injured workers have more than 14 case managers or more during the claim process - the insurer EML is renowned for this. When injured workers became angry and frustrated at their basic human rights being abused, such as their claim being rejected numerous times without justification or legality, they are denied service by both the insurance companies and WorkSafe Victoria which is their standard operating procedure to frustrate injured workers to make them go away. Any official complaints to Minister Ingrid Stitt office are treated with contempt and are simply ignored. Numerous complaints have been lodged with her office to no avail. A Royal Commission into the entrenched corruption by the Senior Management of WorkSafe Victoria is long overdue. The rot is continuing with no meaningful reform.

Un Safe Work Site – Despite numerous calls to Worksafe a building site open to the street and easily accessed by young children ,has for over three years contained potentially fatal hazards in the way of unprotected drop points of up to three meters high .
