Yamaha R-N803D
MPN: R-N803D1 review
Nice Amplifier but seems underpowered – The 803D, the D meaning it has a digital radio, is a nice amp. It is rated at 130 watts RMS. I like the wifi and Bluetooth connectivity. It’s a no nonsense stereo amplifier with option for two sets of speakers. When using 4 speakers in the same room, there is no power or volume loss in any speaker. It has all the necessary connections like optical and RCA etc. I’m only using RCA as I have an older TV. The sound is ok but I feel it is lacking in headroom. I want a sound that PUNCHES! I need to have the bass and treble turned up full to increase the tone quality. Changing from 4 to 8 ohms seems to make no difference, however, my Infinity speakers become SLIGHTLY louder when I change to the required 4 ohms. Only a tad… I’m a bit disappointed however with this amp, as I need to run it at 80- 90% to get a kick out of my older Infinity RS3001 bookshelf speakers and RS635 towers. At 50% power they are as quiet as a mouse. This amp would be better with 8 ohm high quality tower speakers which don’t require an enormous amount of power to drive. I’m looking at getting some Mission Audio Silver 7 towers to match this amp better.
