German engineered Chinese quality – RUBBISH Paid $35.99 thinking it was going to END ALL MY PROBLEMS. German engineered. Used 3 times on an Aldi can of beetroot, never worked again. Had to use my Safeway broken plastic handle can opener to butcher the other end of the can. That worked 6 times before the handle broke. Could have done better with a pair of tin snips, or a hammer and chisel.
The most horrifyingly overpriced and poorly designed item I have purchased – I have owned the Zyliss SafeEdge Can Opener for some years and finally threw it away today. There are barely any Australian-sold cans that it opens, and those that it does open are very difficult to open with endless slipping. It can't get a decent grip (or any grip) on the majority of cans. It seems to need a very shallow rim/lip or something. I have no idea. I just know it's utterly useless despite its $$$$$$ price.
Do not waste your money. I don't know if there are other brands with this "safe edge" design that do work, but I wouldn't chance it. Get a regular style can opener, and avoid any fro this brand, as I wouldn't trust any of their can openers based on my appalling experience with this one.
Don't waste your money and sanity – You would think buying a can opener would be simple...see it...buy it...use it. Not this one, completely unhelpful instructions which then force you to the internet and YouTube to try to work out how to use it - the problem was not being able to attach the opener to the can as per the supposed ease in the marketing video. One should not need a science degree to use a can opener...I am taking it back for refund...A PIECE OF JUNK

Don't waste your money on this Zyliss can opener – I have had a Zyliss garlic crusher and salad spinner for years and I assumed that all their products would be of excellent quality, but the Safe Edge Can Opener is not. It works intermittently so is useless in the kitchen. Our family all tried it with several types of cans with varying results: the lid comes off cleanly but suddenly (watch out for the beetroot juice) ; the lid partially comes off ; there is a thin ribbon of metal contaminating the food ; or it doesn't cut the tin at all.
I approached the retailer about this faulty product (kitchenware.com.au) who asked me to supply them with a video to prove that it doesn't work. I refused to waste any more food and they offered me a store credit which I will never use.
It should be noted that the above company have NOT published the review I took the time to write and there are SUBSEQUENTLY two (?fake) anonymous reviews saying "Love my new can opener. Opens by cutting side ways through the rim so leaves no sharp edges to get cut on !! great quality product...I am glad I found such an excellent product....won't be buying cheap junk again !" and "I am really happy with this safe edge can opener: it is really well made and feels strong - easy to use and very effective- very happy with this purchase". This makes me very suspicious about this company after reading the bad reviews on productreview.com.au (I wish I had checked here first!).
I found sucess with the Joseph Joseph brand of can opener. It is excellent.
Purchased in Jan 2021 from Kitchenware for $24.95
Genuine piece of rubbish – Buying this Swiss brand I was looking for quality and something that would actually open my cans with a minimum of fuss. Unfortunately it does neither . Most of the cans the single wheel will not lock onto and the wheel merely stays in the one spot doing wheelies. I tried it on a can of salmon and after 3 goes I got it to remove the lid. Then I went to a can of beetroot.
The opener just did nothing, in fact it looked like the can was winning and the opener was suffering damage.
No way in the world can I recommend this product and avoid it at all costs.
It just does not lock on square to the can and the handle lock design is one of the most stupid I have ever seen.
