RazorPit Blade Sharpener

Get the best when only the best will do this one is nearly 11 years old – My Razorpit was given to me as a birthday present on my 65th birthday. I usually use an electric shaver which works well but once a week I use a 5 blade Aldi shaver which since I’ve had my Razorpit they last up to 8 months be fore I change to a new one. I am about to buy a new Razorpit as I turn 76 this May. A 5 Star rating isn’t good enough for this product I’d give it a “Ten out of Ten”. Deno.

I recently bought the RazorPit and new blades to try it out with. I have now shaved just 4 times with the a new blade. On the 3rd shave, my skin was left itchy and irritated. I didn’t think much of it - just a one-off I assumed. But in the 4th shave I ended up bleeding in multiple places and red and itchy all over.

The RazorPit has dulled the blade much quicker than usual, so by the 4th shave it was pulling hair from my face at a greater extreme than when I used to use a blade for the 6th or 7th time without the RazorPit.

The best gift I have ever received – I've had this as a gift for about three years and in this time it has saved me hundreds of dollars. I shave with a razor approximately 50% of the time and when I find it feeling a little worn I run it over the pit to bring it back to new. Without this, I would normally buy new blades every three months. Now one blade lasts me at least that long. I've only had two packs of blades in three years. Awesome :)

the Shaver Shop. After inspecting both units at the store, I purchased the Razor Mate over the Pit Blade for 2 reasons.

1. I preferred the fact that the razor blade can be completely enclosed inside the Razor Mate for when I travel. With the Pit Blade, the razor only clips onto the top of the unit which I felt would detach in my travel bag.

2. I liked the fact that the Razor Mate had a clear top surface so I could use the full length of the sharpener without knocking the blade on any end bridges. The Pit Blade by contrast has the razor mounting bridges on the ends of the top surface of the sharpener which I felt would hinder sharpening. My selection in this capacity was purely personal preference. Now does it work? Yes and no. I've been using the sharpener now for about 3 months on my Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Blades although I never switch the power on when using the sharpener. I have not replaced the disposable blade during that time and have found that the device does tend to keep the blade reasonably sharp provided you only have a 1 or maximum 2 days growth. After 2 days growth in my case, the blade tugs and pulls at the hair like an old blade that is reaching its end of life state. This makes the shave a little uncomfortable but at the cost of replacement blades, it is bearable. I generally shave daily anyway so it's not a major issue. If you consistently try to shave a 3 - 4 day growth and are expecting a 'like new' blade after using the sharpener... Forget it! I don't regret making the purchase and I prefer having and using this device than not.

matters, seems to more of a marketing ploy to change out your razor more often, and the rubber strip at the bottom of the razor blade will expand, but it doesn't affect the shave.

If you add up the cost of razor blades to the cost of buying this item, you'll come out in front after only 6 months, I total recommend it.

Actually Works! – I find the cheap single use razors cause rash when I shave so I only use the more expensive brand name products with multiple blades in them such 4+ blade razors. I'm not the biggest fan of the shaver shop franchise (having been swindled by staff in the past) but I must admit I do like this product.

I don't shave everyday. More like 2 or 3 times a week. Where I would have to replace a blade at around each month I found now with this razor pit I don't change blades for around 3 to 6 months. So saving quite a bit on expensive blades for me. They do keep a sharp edge much longer with this product.

I have read you can actually use a piece of fabric such as denim to do the same thing but then I don't have any old jeans lying around and don't like the idea of keeping a wet rag in my drawer in the bathroom that just breeds germs. However if you had enough old denim you could just throw out each piece after each use.

NOTE: I can't verify the denim thing actually works as I've never tried it.

I didn't give the full 5 stars because I think it's a little over priced for what it really is, a piece of molded rubber/plastic which honestly would cost stuff all to produce.

Having said that if mine got lost/damaged I would definitely buy a replacement.

Just remember if you do buy one, never, ever, run your razor in the normal shaving direction on the pit. Always run your razor in the opposite direction.

Exceptionally Good – I work at a military academy. I am required to be clean shaven daily, sometimes shaving twice a day. I use a mach3 blade and usually get about 2-3 weeks out of it. better. It keeps the blade sharp enough to still cut you without feeling it. Well worth the $30. Saved me that in blades already.

A great money saver – I use a Schick five blade razor and I was given a razor pit for father’s day last year when the blade in it was just about due for replacement. am still using the same blade more than six months later although it just starting to wear out and it will probably be replaced in the next week or two. I rarely give maximum ratings to any product as most can be improved one way or another such as lower price or better design but the Razor Pit deserves five stars. Update:

Two years later and I am still using the RazorPit. I am getting nine months out of every blade and these blades cost $20 for a four pack. I have saved nearly $300 from a $30 investment (gift).

Excellent product! couldn't believe how well it worked – I tried this product not really thinking it would work. To my surprise it worked absolutely great! The razor that i had sharpened was really old and due to be thrown out, once sharpened it was like almost new! Great shave and money well spent and saved on buying new razors all the time.
