screen is like windows/Made of plastic now/apple is becoming cheap product/sound glitches/screen turns off by itself – Made of plastic now instead of aluminium. You think people will not notice that you have lowered your quality. You are not fooling anyone. You used to known for for quality...now I guess you want to cheapen your brand's image. Also gets quite hot when using even on days that are cold. No different to any other laptop. You can buy something cheaper… Read more

Bad butterfly keyboard – This mac book has the worst keyboard on any laptop. I am not sure how apple is able to get away with faulty hardware designs. I mean they expect people to pay thousands of dollars to get subpar hardware. Show details

Garbage backed by poor customer service – I purchased this laptop in October 2017, after about 18 months the keyboard started playing up. Not a disaster just a bit annoying, I took it into apple to get it looked at and they just sprayed it with some compressed air and sent me on my way. 12 months later I was back and by then thankfully it was covered under quality assurance program since… Read more

this was a fundamental problem with these computers. REplaced the keyboard, happy days..

Well, for those of you who aren't familiar with the term "flexgate" look it up. This struck my laptop shortly after it was out of warranty and Apple are brushing their hands of it. I paid $3499 for this laptop a little over three years ago, the repair bill is $1400 and according to apple, this is reasonable as the laptop lasted a reasonable amount of time. (Did not even last the duration of my university studies).

For a $3499 to only last 3 years is disgraceful and for it to cost $1400 to repair is adding salt to the wounds. Apple expects me to pay $4899 for a laptop to last beyond 3 years? What on earth, I never would have bought it if this was the case.

Best computer I've ever owned – I work as a software developer and network administrator, and I've got a lot of PCs laying around. I've got high and low end Windows machines, Apple laptops and desktops, tablets and more but nothing beats my Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro (Non-Retina). This machine is a beast. The specs are great, performance is incredible, upgradability is no problem… Read more

and usability is through the roof. The trackpad and keyboard are best I've ever used, and I've upgraded the stock 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD configuration to an i7 with 16GB RAM, a 240GB SSD and 1TB SSHD in the Optical Drive bay. This MacBook Pro is *FAST*, boots incredibly quick and I've had zero problems with it.

Service is also key, and Apple's service is second to none. Once during Christmas I had spilled a beer on the keyboard of my MacBook Pro. The first thing I did is power it off and bring it to Apple. They tore the machine down and cleaned it out for free, the machine was covered under warranty but of course a beer spill isn't.

Battery life is also golden and I haven't seen any real decline in longevity since I bought this Mac in 2013.

All I can say is incredible, this was my first modern Mac and I can definitely say I won't be going back. Buying this Mac has inspired me to use Xserves and Mac Pros for my business and to buy an iMac at home for desktop use. I cannot describe how good these machines are.

3 hard drives failures within 18 months – I switched from PC to Mac around 7 years ago and ever since have been one of those annoying Apple snobs that tell people that they are insane for persisting with PCs and the various annoyances of Windows. That was until I purchased this Macbook. Since Apple have become so massive and no longer a niche brand that only creative people bought,… Read more

their quality control and their care factor has gone down the toilet.

I purchase a $2400 Macbook pro 18 months ago and in that time the hard drive has died 3 times. I am now using hard drive number 4. And on each occasion, Apple tell me that I have just been 'unlucky' and that 'hard drives can die at any time'.

This is rubbish - Apple just dont want to replace my Macbook - Clearly this computer is a Lemon but they would rather replace my hard drive every few months than concede that.

Apple do make decent products and whether your are buying a car, a TV or any other product, there is always the chance that you are buying a Lemon - which is exactly what I have purchased.

So from my experience I cannot recommend the Macbook Pro. When its working, its great. 3 Hard drive failures within 18 months

It's true! You'll never go back! Even if you're over 50! – My computer use is really limited to facebook, emails, banking and writing reviews so when my husband took me shopping for a replacement for my old, dead computer I was surprised to find him at the Apple stand. Don't get me wrong. I've always loved them and anyone I know that's made the switch will say "Once you go Mac you never go back!" But… Read more

how much better could it be? And would it justify the extra dollars?

I'm sure that owning my new MacBook is a bit like having a Ferrari and using it to drive to the shops! There's probably a whole lot of things this baby can do that I'll never even discover. I'm still very happy with the purchase.

The first thing you'll notice is how quickly this machine starts up. My old PC was so slow I used to go and make a cup of tea while it warmed up! I was concerned that it would take me a while to make the switch from a desk top computer with an ergonomic keyboard to a laptop but I've had no problems. I still find typing a bit awkward because the keys are above the touchpad but my husband assures me that if I ever get around to writing the great Australian novel he can plug my old keyboard into my new laptop.

I thought the touchpad would be a challenge so I bought a mouse. I shouldn't have bothered. It took me all of three days to get used to the touch pad and it's an excellent feature for those of us with ageing eyes; I can zoom in on anything with the touch of two fingers.

I purchased microsoft word for mac because all of my old files are in word. Apparently there's free software available that can duplicate word but I'm not very technically savvy so I didn't want to risk it. Word has worked well and has no trouble reading my old documents.

My only gripe, and it's a small one, is that I bought a machine with the standard screen. I didn't know they made one with a non-reflective screen! I've since seen one and wish I had it. I understand you can also ask for 'solid state' internals if you're going to be moving around a lot. I didn't know this either but it's not such an issue for me. I usually move mine from the desk to the kitchen table.

I'm still finding my way around this computer. I keep being pleasantly surprised by all the clever things it can do. It really is 'intuitive' as they claim; if you want it to do something then just think about the most sensible way of doing it and your mac will probably oblige. At the risk of being sexist, this is the sort of computer that women would design.

If you're an older person struggling with a clunky computer and looking to upgrade I'd encourage you to spoil yourself with a mac. They are a pleasure to use and in almost six months I've never once wanted to throw it off a four storey building! Fast. Easy to use. Doesn't shut down in the middle of something or refuse to work. I wish the sales person had told me I could get one with a non-reflective screen.

I have several other machines connected to my home network without any problems, including much older Windows laptops, Android phones and 3 iPhones.

The problem occurs with some Macbook Pros and certain wireless routers, and is a known problem among Macbook owners using Snow Leopard and Lion. Unfortunately, Apple refuses to acknowledge the problem despite thousands of Macbook owners reporting it. It if weren't for this issue, the Macbook Pro would get 5 stars.

The router I use is a D-link DIR-615. If you have one of these be prepared to replace it as neither D-link or Apple has a solution to this problem.

The laptop itself has stood the test of time as well. It's taken some hard hits in my backpack and has yet to stuff up. Battery life is still top notch after 120 cycles.
