Just replaced the turbine head after 10 years of service, now to the next 10 years – I use it on carpet and also ceramic floor tiles, suction is still amazing. Attachment heads are invaluable. Never had any problems, easy to store, easy to empty, love my Dyson vacuum cleaner. Show details

Easy to use! Easy to empty out waste! – Great suction. Easy to empty. Would recommend getting a Dyson Forsure! Carpets come up great. I use it on carpet and hard floors. The turbine head makes it easy to vac. For smaller places like in between fridge window ledges the other attachments come in handy to. Show details

Fantastic vacuum, fantastic service! – Best vacuum cleaner I've owned, the turbine head is brilliant for pet hair and lifting the carpet pile. I run a BnB and have a hairy dog, so it gets plenty of use. When I have needed parts or advice the after sales service has been superb. The turbine head on my DC23 has finally given up after 10 years, I was delighted to find I can still get a replacement head for only $129, so much better than having to buy a new machine!  Show details

Hard to use – With the price you would think they might give you a decent hose. Very difficult to maneuver and the unit gets caught on everything. Big mistake buying Dyson. I would never buy another overpriced unit again. I can see why they spend so much on advertising, it is the only way they are still in business.  Show details

Good suction, noisy and bulky, then the motor blew up – It did last almost seven years before the motor blew, so I'm not giving the Dyson DC23 Contact a one-star review, but by the number of reports of burnt out Dyson motors I'm now seeing in my community Facebook Buy and Sell page, this does seem to be a Dyson design fault . This was my first flash vacuum cleaner, and I spent $700. The telescopic… Read more

wand stuck immediately and I had to get a replacement, so not a good start. The vacuum suction was excellent, even with a fairly full canister, and the amount I could vacuum before emptying was great. (Emptying was a bit messy.) For an expensive vacuum it didn't feel solidly built though - lots of plastic parts clipping together - and boy it was noisy.

The barrel would tend to roll over when going around corners and with its sharp edges it had to be handled carefully so it didn't bang into the walls and chip off paint. And as we have pets, it was surprisingly poor with pet hair. Like, really really bad. The cheap Electrolux I replaced it with is much better.

All in all, I think I bought a $250 vacuum for $700. My Dyson vacuum was passable, but not a premium product - and I paid a premium price. Never again, Dyson.

Hot and cold feeling over this product – The Dyson is a really good product re motor etc, when its working its awesome but we too have had 3 heads due to it just giving up. We persevere otherwise it would have been an expensive garden ornament, and not really good advertisement for Dyson. Changed my carpet life! – Literally sucked my carpet so clean it changed colour. Couldn’t believe it. Have had it for over 10 years and it’s still going strong. Great vacuum. It’s a bit big, but if you want suction power with a solid motorhead it’s worth it. Show details ·  1

Over rated, overpriced and disappointing – Our turbinehead jammed despite regular cleaning. A replacement head cost as much as a new conventional vacuum cleaner so I pulled it apart with nothing to lose. I found all plastic components and cogs which was disappointing considering the new cost. I cleaned it up and reassembled the head and it’s been working since. Not cheap so one should expect better construction. Show details

Why discontinue an excellent product. I bought my first one when they first came a bit worn out – The dyson 23 powerhead was the best there is. Why discontinue an excellent product. I bought mine when they first came out. The suction is not as good as it was so I decided to buy the latest. Cinetic bigball multifloor. It's terrible. The tools on the side of the handle is shocking. The foot is hard to push. Hate it with a passion. Give me a new power head anyday. Very disappointed  Show details ·  4

Excellent – It is the best vacuum I have ever used. The floors look like I have just mopped them after using it. Amazing! The motor head works wonders on carpeted areas as it really lifts up all the dirt and hair. For those not used to the weight of the unit it can be a little difficult to move around a bit with it, but I personally wasn't fussed.  Show details

Good Vacuum Cleaner – Happy with the performance, good suction, still going strong after 4 years. Powerhead is a big plus, partic the on off button on the top which can be turned off with a flick of the foot. Not the quietest cleaner, nor the lightest but i'd buy another as its the best we've owned  Show details

I bought a DC23 Motorhead second hand seeing as it's been discontinued – I'm a cleaner and have used dozens of different vacuum cleaners. Then I was hired by a client with a DC23 motorhead. It was an OMG moment. The motorhead removes cat fur from carpet, bed sheets, curtains and anything else fabric without damaging it. A turbine head simply doesn't cut the comparative mustard. Oh why, oh why did you discontinue it, Dyson?  Show details

Wheels wore out after 3 years! – The cheap little front wheels wore down so that the $130 turbine head scratched my timber floors- after only 3 easy years of home usage. (Probably cost less than 10 cents to make...) Average suction. Fiddly plastic bits and lack of manoeuvrability. Expensive tools. I bought a Hoover stick vac and it's been brillian. I will definitely not be buying another Dyson!  Show details

Loved it - Cooked Motor Now – I have finally cooked the motor in my Dyson DC23 after 10 years. I have since found out that they have retired the machine which was sad news on my part. I have loved the machine and it has handled things like a dream. Apparently I should have been cleaning filters in that time so they were surprised it lasted that long. I am now in line for a new Dyson and will be purchasing another one soon. (Not sure if date purchased is correct)  Show details

Smelly Lound Awkward – I bought this quite a few years ago. This machine is a pain. The hose is always twisting cutting suction. I have a dog and it picks up the hair no complaints there it is excellent at that but like others find the smell very annoying. The noise is horrific. putting it away is a nightmare having to wind the hose around the body of the thing well lets just say it does not stay there. This is my 2nd Dyson but it will be my last. I wish it had a tail pipe so I could shove a spud up there and then maybe it would die.

Dyson do not back up there product – I find Dyson do not stand behind their product, it was purchased about 6 years ago, for $900 which is quite expensive. It has developed immovable blockages in the hose on two occasions and Dyson’s remedy is to purchase a new hose for $135, which again is very expensive. One would expect Dyson to be more proactive and replace the hose as this fault seems to be repetitive and a machine failure. Think twice before you expend the extra money.  Show details

I also loved my DC23 but have replaced the turbo head twice in 4 years and now it is out of warranty – I have a small house, senior housing, and I have a dog. When the Dyson worked it was great but the turbo heads are defective and I can't afford to keep replacing. I found it was light and easy to use and it did pick up the dog hairs. If it wasn't for the problem with the turbo heads I would recommend, but to be on my third turbo head in 3 1/2 years is a defective product  Show details

Great vacuum that has lasted us 8 years! – A great vacuum that was recommended by friends. I was skeptical about spending so much on a vacuum at the time, but after 8 years can say that it was well worth the money. Short life – The suction is pretty good but doesn't pick up all pet fur from small dog. I found the dimension of the pipe is too large to get in small spaces i.e behind an aquarium on the tiles. span. I have my own cleaning business, but don't use Dyson (for home only) and I finished my cleaning yesterday with a back pack cleaner that performed better than Dyson! I think my next vacuum will be the Miele pet vacuum. I have had a Miele before and it lasted for years.

Great if you have pets – I have a white Ragdoll Cat that hates being brushed so he drops a lot of fur around. The motor head on this machine is excellent. I had an issue with the waste container after about a year but it was fixed very quick, I was then given another 2 years warranty. My Mother even bought a Dyson on my recommendation as she has plush carpet and needed a strong motorhead vacuum.  Show details

Doesn't last the distance – We bought the Dyson DC23 turbine for $800 5 years ago. Whilst it worked it was good. expected more than 5 years use - we were probably better off buying a cheapo vacuum cleaner and throwing it out every year (we still would have been ahead $$ wise). Depending on cost of repair, I might be looking for a new vacuum soon and unlikely to be a Dyson (as not worth the huge investment).

Just terrible – If you want a noisy, cumbersome, badly (and overdesigned), expensive vacuum cleaner, then this model is for you. Each time I get out this machine, I am composing in my mind this review and so here it is! It was mentioned previously that it is near impossible to reach in narrow areas because the design of the wand. I totally agree. Why would… Read more

you design a bulky attachment which would not reach anywhere because of the width. The turbine head gets clogged easily purely because of the bad design. Two years ago, this turbine head stopped working because of the flimsy drive belt broke and after much debate between Dyson and myself, they suggested I buy a new one for $125.00 and i reminded them that under Australian Consumer law, (and as it broke within a month of the warranty running out), I believed that this should not have happened. They then sent me a new one gratis. It is fairly useless on the one carpet I have and I have to actually loosen any sort of fluff from the carpet myself before it picks it up.

Tried to be patient. But this thing is Garbage – Everytime I use it, it gets clogged at the handle. The wire running through the hose collects any pet hair around it until it just stops working. I then have to fish out anything around the wire and start again. This is my first Dyson experience and most likely my last. I expected the premium price to come with a premium product but thats not the case  Show details

Love the Dyson DC23 Animal! – I bought the DC23 Animal 3 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made! I moved into a very large 5 bed home with LOTS of thick carpet. soo worth it as this vacume doesnt spit out dust when you're using it! Nor does it smell...The filter system barrel is soo great...what you suck up stays sucked in and then straight out when its time to empty. The turbine head unfortunately has worn out its roller and needs a replacement so im thinking I might like to try the flat head as its alot cheaper. But I just love my Dyson...its a great addition to my family home :-)

It's the first vacuum to every blow up on me – I was very happy with this machine until it blew up after 5 years of less than average use. UPDATE:

Repair quote from Dyson came back at $275 - I am very disappointed.

They tell me that on top of the engine being blown ($145), the turbine head is also dead and needs replacing ($129). I think given the amount they sell these machines for, the least they could do is look after you when they break down.

Very poor design – Very poor design - wheels and other bits stick out and these catch on walls, beds, etc, pulls to the side, not straight - head of wand is too big - very noisy operation - The overall design shows very little thought - Motorhead is the only good part of this machine, otherwise don't buy one, there are lots better on the market.  Show details

DC 23 turbine head – Why "discontinued". My head stopped turning. I pulled head apart and cleaned all things that may stop it working, to no avail. I got curious pulled head drive apart and found the nylon drive "T" pin stripped. Weak link in machine. The replacement heads are very expensive and 2 years warranty is not a good alternative. Wont buy another Dyson.

Brilliant Machine and Outstanding Customer Service – I love this machine! Excellent suction, I wouldn't say it is light, but I am more than willing to trade that off for its performance. My carpets are over 30 years old, but the machine brings up the pile like new. Great on hard floors to with either the Motörhead turned off or the hard floor tool. Customer service has always been brilliant and I can't fathom how anyone can say different.
