Kenwood Patissier KM270 Series

Brilliant. I have been using it for years. Only negative is that the paddle has a white coating which eventually peels off and needs replacement. All Kenwood mixers are great. My mum’s old A701a still works great and it is rather retro. Show details
Very happy with this old, robust machine – Very happy with my KM270. I've had it second hand and it does what it should. I noticed a lot of negative reviews here about changing speed, not beating properly, and not successfully mix fat and sugar, I would advise people to actually read the instructions as all that is explained. If the load is too heavy, divide it. If the mixing is difficult,… Read more
use the flat beater which is more robust than the whisk. I use mine for making bread and butter. Last time, I put 1kg flour without realising I shouldn't. Well it did dance a bit on the counter, but handled the job brilliantly. The head was a bit hot at the end, but considering you are not supposed to put more than 500g at a time for bread making, I find it worked brilliantly - and that was for 15min, which also exceeds the recommendation, although I stopped it every now and then to detach the heavy ball of flour from the hook. It does scrap everything, there was nothing left in the bowl when I removed the dough. My only restriction, as others said before, is that the splash guard is not included. I need to find one somewhere but this old model is now discontinued, so that's a problem for me. Anyway, if you find this model second hand for a cheap price, do go for it (and use it properly). Kenwood, if you read this, can you help? Do you have some in the backstore? ;D
dreadful mixer far to slow – iv had many kenwoods over the years and iv always loved them , this patissier km270 is the WORST mixer iv ever has it runs far to slow , you cant whip cream because it has no speed to it mixing a cake is nightmare because there is no power to beet butter and sugar together iv had to go and buy a small hand mixer to work with iv never ever been so disappointed in my life , i hate kitchenaid but im afraid ill have to buy one Show details

Best kitchen appliance ever – I love baking (Thursday nights are my baking night...cakes, cookies, pies etc.) and my husband purchased a Kenwood Patissier for my birthday 7years ago (It was on sale and I chose the colour and unit myself). As I did not want to spend the extra money on a Kitchen Aid I was happy with the basic attachments (whisk, paddle and hook) that came with… Read more
the unit. I did experience from the first day of using it that when I changed the speed settings it sounded like the motor was slowing down then speeding up. At the time I thought it was normal for it to do this as the speed numbering went 0-2-4-6-8-10-12. I presumed it was because of jumping the numbers, but reading some of the other reviews I now know that this was not normal, but it never bothered me anyway.
I was alone at home about 3 years ago and was mixing bread dough and had to go to the loo, and thought it would be ok but the unit fell off the kitchen counter within a minute and when I got back I picked the unit up (with all the dough still in the bowl and the whole thing still in tact) and continued mixing. The motor was ok but I could hear it was under a bit on strain as a result of the fall. It's probably time for me to replace it but it's still going and doing a good job with my sponge cake batter (the mixing bowl capacity is awesome for this recipe), and when you look at the unit it still looks brand new without a scratch or a dent (from the fall) on it. Today, the motor still "groans" when I mix anything in it but I love my Kenwood Patissier so much that I don't want to let it go.
Major Design Flaw – While I rate this mixer as quite good, it does have one major flaw and a few other minor problems. To insert a mixing tool, you have to push the tool onto the head and twist. That is ok, but to remove it you have to do the reverse. In practical terms, this means holding onto a greasy head and trying to twist. Not only do you get messy hands, but… Read more
it is slippery and hard to twist. There should be a quick release button. Also when using sugar, it flies around the room - you end up with sugar everywhere. The included splashguard is a must and even then quite a bit of sugar gets out. Plus when the splashguard is on, the mixing head can't be raised easily as the tool gets caught on the guard and the sides of the bowl can't be scraped easily. Both actions require removing the sticky splash guard, and then reattaching it if you are still mixing - not easy when the tool is still attached. It does whisk eggs and cream very very well. The 400w motor seems to cream butter and sugar easily. Needs a quick release tool button. The exposed springs on the head are difficult to clean and could be a potential breakage point. The splashguard is tricky to remove.
Adjust the fitting height otherwise it can be a nightmare – I actually bought this as a birthday present for my partner on his birthday over a year ago, however yesterday was the first time I had actually used it. At first I was really disappointed - Sugar and butter weren't creaming and then when I put in flour etc it just wasn't mixing good enough at all and I had to keep scrapping and mixing by hand. To… Read more · 1
be honest I was beginning to think that my partner was just being polite in saying it was a great mixer. To me the main problem was that the beater just wasn't touching the bottom of the bowl, hence why everything on the bottom wasn't being mixed in. After trolling on the Kenwood site I realised that you can actually adjust the beater height by moving the screw head just near where the fitting pops in. I have played around with this and it seems to have fixed the problem with the beater now touching the bottom and sides! I am amazed why this isn't correctly fitted like this in the first place? Needless to say it is now doing what it is supposed to do - mix cakes! Cute retro design. Nice solid unit. Beater head doesn't come fixed at the correct height and if not adjusted correctly can create a lot of extra hand beating which defeats the purpose of the machine!

whipping up yumminess – My first "mommy" gift for myself as all the others seemed too professional and pricey. I have had mine now 6 years and have used it a bajillion times. My kids love to help me cook with it and its even user friendly, yet tough enough for them and they are 6 and 4. I have only one complaint, they should include the splash guard. When this one has… Read more · 1
mixed it's last I will just get another but change up the colour. I never knew til now about the screw adjust which is a handy little tip. fun colour choices, reliable, kid friendly, easy to clean. Necessary accessories like a splash guard are sold seperately.
Fine After Ajustment – This mixer works great now but it did not initially. it requires undoing of the hex bolt in the middle and adjusting with each of the tools to make sure it reaches the bottom. It is still quite underpowered for me but i only paid $160 for it so not too dissapointed with it's performance can whip and do most tasks quite easily under powered. not very good with sticky and thick doughs Show 2 replies
Love my Kenwood Pattissier =) – I got this mixer as a gift from my husband i have used it every day making cup cakes, frostings, meringue, even tomato relish!!! i lovee the fact that this mixer is sooo quiet as i have a young family so i can bake when ever one goes to bed!! Its quiet and cuts prep time
Negative reviews
Speed control is out of control – This has always been a barely adequate mixer, but today it surpassed all expectations for poor quality when the motor decided to suddenly increase to full speed without any operator input. It did this on two occasions spraying bowl contents everywhere. This is clearly a safety issue, but I could find no evidence of a recall. This device is headed for the bin, and the brand can also go in the bin. Never again. Show details
disappointed – bought it at least 7 years ago never been happy does not mix well at all pushes stuff to the side went on line to find a good one to buy & found this site wish i saw this site first waste off $400 Show details

poor performer – The mixer does not catch everything in the bowl and the motor is way too slow. Don't bother trying to make pavlova or whipped cream. Does not beat fast enough to do so. This is the first Big Mixer i have ever had and thought that Kenwood was a reputable brand, what a disappointment. Now stuck with a Lemon sitting on the bench looking pretty.

Bad design – Poorly designed either beater attachment is in the wrong position in relation to the bowl. Brought as a sunbeam disaster replacement. The distributor as good as admitted that was the fault, no help was given. In my humble opion the original sunbeam mixer was the only way to go check out e/bay I did. N.B. as a tradesman I repaired several old sunbeams they were far superior to what is on the market today.

Another Kenwood disappointment – This cake mixer would probably be great if the attachments were calibrated to meet the bowl at the right height. There is far too much space between the bowl and the attachment meaning that a simple procedure such as creaming butter and sugar requires a large quantity and frequent scraping down of the bowl to work at all. Even with some attempts… Read more
to modify this, it is still a very poor product. When did Kenwood stop being a top of the line brand where design was paramount?
As this was a wedding gift, we have been unable to return it to the store for a refund. Have contacted Kenwood directly about this major flaw with no response at all.
Disappointing stuff.
Dont buy one – Too slow, beater doesnt pick up quite abit of mixture, cant use it for small amounts, throws mix out of the bowl, if it wasnt a gift I would have taken it back. Now stuck with It. It seems to be going slower and slower... High speed is too slow for some baking. Stainless bowl with handle Too slow and doesnt mix properly
Lasted only as long as the warranty, never mixed well – The Patissier seemed like a good buy within our budget. It felt like it should last well with the nice heavy cast iron body, but it only made it 2 weeks past the warranty period then stripped a gear or something. Now it sounds like a spoon in a garbage disposal, and mixing is no longer a function. In retrospect, it never worked all that well,… Read more
although if we had adjusted the working height of the attachments so it reached the bottom of the bowl, it may have been better. We only found out about that after it died. We made a few cakes, but always had to scrape the bowl during mixing. We made 6 and a half loaves of bread, but always needed to knead the dough by hand after 'mixing'. And then it mixed itself to bits. It didnt get a lot of work, and now we are back using my grandmas crusty old sunbeam from 1970 which is still ticking along. Quality is a thing of the past. Matched our kitchen Didnt mix well and was perfectly engineered to destroy itself when the warranty expired
Grey residue on the bowl!! Yuck – Just about to try my new replacement after the old Kenwood beater has a grey residue every time I touch it. Now I'm excited about the new replacement because it is the newer model. But just as I unpacked it, I wiped the bowl and voila.. a yucky grey residue appear on my paper towel just like when you wipe a bowl full of dust except this is not… Read more
dust. I'm so so disappointed. last time it was my beater, now it is the bowl.
Make sure if you buy this product, wipe it with clean wet paper towel to make sure it is clean and safe for you before using it.
Think twice – Definitely needs a splash back, should be included. Ever since owning my Patissier it has skipped whilst mixing. I've had the circuit board changed 2/3 times, gave up in the end because I needed to use it. Had to wait ages for the circuit board to be replaced. It does do the job, after I'd discovered that you could adjust the height of the… Read more
tools. It looks fabulous but I would probably not buy another one. Simple to use, inexpensive. Mixing beat skipped now and then.
Run screaming from it – We dont rate it at all. The wisk broke within 12 or so months but that didn't matter it wasn't any good for 1 egg recipes or similar small bake jobs. The machine is fine when working towards max capacity but for small amounts the butter is always left on side of bowl and the egg will not combine so we end constantly turning off and scraping down… Read more
sides. We are now faced with the spend $45 on a new whisk and suffer with our frustration or start again with a Kitchen Aid which specifically states that it works with one egg sized batches.
Good but would. Spend the money to get a faster mixer – I bough this mixer 2 yrs ago and still going. As I have never had a mixer before I though that it was quite good for what it was I've been able to do anything that I wanted from bread to sponge to pavlova. But I only use the the flat beater for everything and don't worry about using the wire beater it not that good. Cheapest one Slower then the others
Great Buy – I've had mine 8 years or more and it's never missed a beat. Used daily for many of those years for bread and baking. Yes it needs a quick scrape down sometimes but have never had a machine that doesn't, and it only takes a couple of seconds. Would happily buy this again if they are still the same. Easy to use, reliable, sturdy
Dont buy – My beater was only used about 10 times in two years. It has started beating so fast that it almost flew off the bench and made the mixture go up the wall etc. No way should a beater do this after little use or even with a lot of use life span short --disposable

So slow, louzy speed – The mixer has 12 speed and even on the highest speed it doesn't beat the batter fast enough. Now I only use this mixer to mix the eggyolk where it doesn't require the raising of the batter. You will never get white egg beaten white with this mixer. I am very disappointed with this mixer. I doubt if I would ever buy kenwood again in the future. it… Read more
stands firm, heavy. but that is not what I look for in a mixer. Speed is more important to make a good batter. Speed. too slow even on the highest speed
Not worth the money spent – I purchased this mixer about 18 months ago and have been so disappointed with it. The motor is just so slow in beating even when on full speed. It doesn't "cream" properly - I have to revert back to my old mixer to do this. One thing that it does do is whip cream so it makes it an expensive product just to do that. If I had known about these… Read more
issues before I purchased it I never would have spent this amount of money. I had thought of taking it back to Harvey Norman or even contacting the maker but time got away from me and then it was too late. I would never recommend this product to anyone, I even pursuade guests that see it on my bench never to buy one of them. All I can finish off is "what a waste of money".
I don't think it does what it advertises to do.
Not worthy of a star – The biggest waste of money better off giving your money to charity than these greedy companies that mass produce items they well know are far from perfect. Not only is it noisy it doesn't mix well and it shutters and the contents fly out everywhere even on low speed Noisy and very messy

Very disappointed – Like many others I thought I couldn't go wrong with a kenwood! Ha! I had been thinking about getting mixer and a w Christmases ago saw the beautiful red patisserie on special. pastry which is fine but my first cake... It left all the sugar at the bottom! And don't even bother trying a meringue! I had to get my electric hand whisk out. Really really disappointed and what's worse, as soon as I had a problem I checked on line thinking may be mine was broken and read the reviews, like the ones below of people with the same problem. Lesson learnt, always read the reviews! Wish I had saved my money and just bought the chef! (on the up side offer did ger me a $99 slow cooker for free which is great)

A big Lemon – The fastest speed setting is too slow for whipping or getting good peaks on egg whites and the beater does not get all around the suface of the bottom of the bowl. You have to continually stop the machine to scrape the sides down. I am very unhappy with this product but can't afford to replace it. The colour Does not do the job on it's own.

Disappointing mixer – I bought the Kenwood Patissier about 9 months ago, based off the brands reputation. I have found the mixer to be slow and inefficient. Not enough power, beaters don't reach far enough into the bowl.
Can only agree very disappointed. Beaters don't collect mix from the bottom of bowl. And the motor is very noisey and slow.
excellent mixer – good cake mixer..the beaters do reach the bottom of the bowl, they just have to be adjusted slightly which is really easy, just a wee turn of a screw.you should have been told that when you brought it.doesnt go extremely fast, and i think thats a good thing, looks nice, wee bit loud maybe but they all are.overall it does what it is ment to..and i like… Read more · 4

fantastic i love it – i was doing research on which model to buy and settled on this one as i didnt need a huge over expensive model. this one suits me perfectly and the price was modest. excellent quality and not cheap and nasty. i have only used it once so far and i am very happy with it overall. easy to use Show reply
great for making cakes and good for making dough – I love this mixer. Cakes tastes much better and i use it everytime to make my chapati dough. Makes my life so much easier. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. Only thing i would change is the mixer as it doesnt mix the sides very well. I have to keep using the spoon to mix the sides and then turn on the mixer again. reliable, love the color, powerful machine doesnt mix to the sides well enough as i thought it would,a bit small for my use Show reply
Excellent – i love it got it as a birthday present its easy to use simple to clean i do sometimes find it doesnt mix the last bit in the bowel but i think its more the shape than anything, i cant add things in whilst mixing with my old kenwood and afterwoods i cant lick the beaters clean but its always worked well for me no issues with dough only that its… Read more

So disappointed – My Gran is an excellent baker and attributes all her success to her Kenwood so I bought on for myself. reviewers seem to have had. The unit mixes well, adjusts the speed when needed and the top of the unit will move as required, but the base of the unit does not move on the bench. This unit is designed with "patissier in mind", this should be considered before purchasing.
This makes such a difference to my cooking!! – Fantastic mixer, everything I have made so far has risen more and been lovely, light and fluffy.
