Long term Review Poor Efficiency and costly to run – This unit uses more than 2 units of power per hour, which means it may cost 50c/hour to run. It makes the nearby area cool, but draws air in from surrounding rooms because the unit only has one air exhaust duct to the outside for the hot air to be expelled. This air must be replaced from somewhere so it means hot air is drawn from outside into the rest of the house during the day, Better units have 2 duct pipes which keep the circulation separate from the room. My unit struggled to cool a small room from 35 deg outside temperature to 30 degrees inside. In Perth you get 75 days over 30deg C over the 6 months of summer, so if you ran this unit 4 hrs a day on the hot days it would add $30 per month to your power bill, or $180 per year. It works well in the early morning because the cold outside air is drawn in, but gets progressively more inefficient when the temperature outside the room gets warmer, again because of the air pulled into the room from outside. The unit is tested to 64db when operating, much noisier than some other brands.
Purchased in at The Good Guys for $850.
- Home Insulation Level: Good
- Room Type: Large Bedroom
Amazing lasts forever – We bought this PC44 as an impulse buy but it's the best thing we have done! We sleep better and longer. We have a large bedroom and this does the job! It is little noisy but not enough to wake you up and the exhaust hose could be longer but the window kit fits our window perfectly and blows all the hot air out. We rent so no damage and completely relocatable. We set it on auto at 24° and forget it. Its a solid unit and uses mist technology to keep to temperature down and the humidity just right. Love it. 5 years still going strong.

Well worth the money – This is an excellent cooler. I have had it for 6 years now and use it on the hot nights. My room is small but I go from sweating to pulling out blankets. This device really works. Cost me a thousand bucks but best money I spent. Cons are a bit noisy ad use a bit too much power. Show details
Great unit but appalling customer support – We purchased the PC-53AP/C 5 years ago and use it maybe 5 days a year. It recently stopped cooling. Rinnai the importers initially refused to reply to contact attempts for a service centre, then sent the following reply. As you can see( Edit-I did attach Rinnais’ reply email but it’s not showing), they are saying the unit is throw away if it is… Read more
faulty and outside of warranty as they do not service or have service centres for their products. How they get away with that is beyond me? I can not recommend such a dismal product backup and it’s something they should be forced to disclose when selling as it’s not fit for purpose.

Intermittent clunk, thud, cough sound and water tank fills up – I just bought polocool 6kw 20,000 btu and mine makes an intermittent, thud, cough noise. I have emailed polocool and waiting for a response. And whenever i unplug drain, heaps of water comes out, even though they say it never needs emptying re Mist technology. Feeling extremely angry at the moment. I cannot stand the thud, cough, whatever noise it… Read more
is. The exhaust is not a very secure attachment to the air con unit. I bought a Dyson fan which was a waste of money, now this other Reputable Branded Product is making me feel the same as i do about Dyson. Ps. It has stopped making the thud noise at the moment Ps. No, its back again Ps. The noise has stopped again, for how long i wonder. I bought this so i could relax and be cool on the day before a major job interview, yet all its done is cause me stress, haven't eaten all day because its taken up my whole day. Aaaggghhhh! But it does cool my loungeroom down. It is the come and go noise which detracts from otherwise effective air con
When it isnt playing up – Its my 4th unit in just over a year. Although Harvey norman have been great with exchanging duds back and forth with me. This unit i have now was sent from new stock south of qld somewhere and it worked perfect last summer. I have it raised on a table to drain it in a bucket on the ground out of a rubber hose sitting closer to the window and made… Read more · 1
a contraption up with the window slide so it gets max air exhaust output with no obstructions. I started using it back in December when heats waves hit and use it in my 4m square bedroom. The problem i now have with this one is it seems to only kick in and out properly when its set at the temp at the time in the room and if i try to set it below (ranges between 28-30) its blows cold air and then the compressor will cut out and it will display LT, drain water and then kick back in again and then off again always displaying Lt. And it get to a point where it just gets hot in the room and eventually stops blowing cold air. I have never seen it until this unit and just before christmas it started. Its like it freezes up and cant perform properly! Im really disappointed that they cant seem to run good for a very long time (under 6 months) whats up with that polocool? Anyone else have any pointers on this thing or specific ways to run it? Or have i got another one thats a bad egg?
The best portable air con available on the market, full stop – Purchased a Polocool Mega 6KW second hand unit from Gumtree three years ago, after doing alot of research on the various options. Yes, portable air con units are heavy, bulky, inefficient and costly to run, however when this is your only option as a renter, you cannot go past the Polocool Mega. My suggestion to any prospective buyer is go… Read more
for the larger 6KW model as you need as much cooling power possible, regardless of the cooling size of room guides mentioned by manufacturer.
Those guides tend to be based on a 'perfect' environment, when in fact my home is old and cannot retain heating or cooling due to the building condition.
The unit has been run solid daily each summer for 3 years, sometimes up to 20 hours non stop without a break, and does not skip a beat.
If the unit is installed correctly with a decent seal around the exhaust and window panel you cannot go wrong.
The unit will however disperse alot of water despite Polocool claiming it is minimal, however this is the same case with any portable A/C I have used before. I have the unit sitting on a small cafe table and will let the water drop into a standard size bucket, that needs to be emptied after 24 non stop hours.
The unit may be considered 'loud' to some, but again in comparison to other models I have seen it is very reasonable and the white noise to some, like me, is soothing and you will have no trouble sleeping through.
If you are needing portable air con for a large closeable room this is your go to, and rest assured you will not regret it.
The unit will not only make you comfortable, it will get your space down to a crispy coolness if that's your thing during the hideous Australian summer.

Exceeds expectations – With 35-38 degree days I would be lost without my Polocool PC-50XLA. I run it From early morning and it cools my lounge and kitchen down well. Keep doors and curtains closed. For a renter this machine is ideal. Show details
Cannot live without it !! – I love it soo much and it’s saved us through summer. Clean and not too loud and affordable. Reliable and not a nuisance to use thank you
Works a treat! – Money well spent, this unit is fantastic. It's 40 degrees outside but it's nice and cool inside. Works well in large open spaces and it isn't very loud. I highly recommended this unit if you want instant relief from unbearable summer heat. Show details

Caught on fire – 1.30am this morning woke up to smoke alarm going off. Electrical fire started in air conditioner unit. Unit is about 4 years old and maintained regularly. Was a good unit until this happened Show details
Way over rated – This portable air con is way over rated. At best in moderate heat it barely keeps up just making it slightly bearable. The first unit we had went faulty and blew nothing but air. The replacement is no better and or though cold is coming out it doesn't help the room sadly Show details
Waste of money – Replaced a smaller older unit from Kogan with this piece of junk, won't cool a room down, goes from cycle to cycle and just blows air, DON'T buy one, no back up no nothing Harvey Norman should be ashamed to sell it and their salesmen are just liars who have no idea on what their selling Show details

Almost Perfect – Purchased this unit about 18 months ago amd it is fantastic. Cools the room down perfectly. Only down side is the fan is a bit noisy, but still best unit I have used. Show details
Fantastic – I have the mega polocool.. it is so awesome..it's worth the money as u don't need to empty it or anything only at end of season.. even then it's so easy.. hardly any water.. easy to clean.. highly recommended..I was lucky to purchase mine off a mate for a few hundred who was moving into a place with ducted air conditioned home and only had it 6 months and so was still under 2 year warranty..but I so would've purchased this at Harvey Norman..
Can buy them for 200 2nd hand – Is a very powerful A/C. at 2300w it uses some power but can rival small split systems in cooling output. Pain to connect and seal because of how much heat it expels but other than that, fantastic for a medium sized house! If you get this for 200 bucks second hand you cant make a better choice. Perfect Air con unit – This has got to be the best Portable Air Con unit. It’s well priced, easy to maintain gets icy cold even on 30°+ days. It does a great job of cooling the open plan living area of my townhouse. Show details
Excellent customer service – My old air conditioner broke down. So I decided to get a portable air conditioner, coz it can be used more flexibly. Having arrived about a week, well packed. Very easy to install the hot air exhaust hose and the water drain hose. There is a CAUTION on the side of the box not easy to be noted saying operating it after 24 hours. I have put it for… Read more
more than 24 hours and the unit blows cold air after turning on 30 seconds. The temperature is down to 61 degrees quickly. It’s much quieter than I expected and the remote control makes it easier to use. I like the good-looking design. And the filter is on the back, very easy to clean. Love this!
heavy duty portable air conditioner – I knew this was better than the previous one a soon as I unpacked it. It solid and heavy. The pipes are heavier duty, the plastic is better quality even the rollers are better. Hooked it up and I was rewarded with COLD air and relief of the hottest days. Wife took to it and loves it too. This is the model to get people. Its dear but its worth it! Show details
Cooled Out Lounge – We have the top level one (6Kw) and it can cool our lounge room, no worries. You do get a bit of fan noise but that is par for the course with these. There is no tank to empty which is good as it mists the water out the widow pipe with the hot air. It came with a very simple remote and instructions. This machine is priced high but it delivers good cooling and is well made. Show details
Good for a small room – This product is great for a small room, it's not noisy, put it in a corner and cools the entire room in no time it's performance is great. You can easily manoeuvre it if need be. It's a great product for someone who can't install a proper ac unit, it does the job perfectly. Show details
Excellent Air-con - Bit Pricey – We are very happy with the performance of this air conditioner but I feel the initial price is very high. It's a bit like Apple products where they are better than average but its debatable if they are better enough to justify the high price tag. The machine does work very well, it is well made and once you connect the hoses and plug it in it… Read more
delivers lots of cold air and made a big difference to us this summer. Its on wheels so you can move it room to room. I think its a little noisy running but that's because all the components that would normally be outside are in the room. Its an effective but pricey machine

Three Summers Later Still Great – We got this because of the heatwave three years ago and my goodness! It made a difference from day one. There is not much worse than not being able to sleep due to the heat and this cured that instantly. There is a hose you attach to a nearby window with an included folding kit and it sends all the hot air out that. It can turn a 40c bedroom into-… Read more
a 20c one very quickly. 20 minutes is all it needs. Best thing is that its on windows so you can put it away when not needed. Great machine! Perhaps a little pricey but definitely worth it.
Saved Me This Summer – This is the slightly less powerful model from polocool, the 4.4kw. It still has more than adequate power to easily cool our largish bedroom. I mean really cool too, not an asthmatic wheeze like our old Aldi one! The Polocool really produces cold air and is the next best thing to fully installed aircon. It also requires no maintenance other than … Read more

Top Notch Results – Top notch air con from Polo cool really works well Polo cools are a bit dearer than the cheapie ones but really worth it. lounge down quickly. It is chewing a fair bit of power to achieve this though so you need to keep an eye on consumption.
A very effective machine
Powerful portable aircon – We bought this unit during a heatwave. The unit itself is heavy. Sign of a quality unit. It took around 30 mins to assemble the exhaust hose. It needs to be close to a window to be safe to run. The unit cools down a room very fast. We only have one negative point to make. We use our aircon in the bedroom. Our unit has blue lights that at… Read more
night I can tell they are on. (Tall ships use red lights in living quarters that are constantly on at night when you sleep. The red light doesn’t affect people’s sleep.) polocool please take this into consideration as having the blue light is like having a constant light on in the room
Perfect for our small stand alone art studio – After much searching and deliberation, we settled on the Polocool 58. Perfect for a small to medium space, might even do a reasonable job on a large space, but dunno. Not a criticism, but more a suggested improvement would be to have larger wheels or somehow make the overflow outlet for the water higher so that you can get something under it. I… Read more
have made a 100mm non slip stand for the unit which works ok, but better thinking and ingenuity from the makers could eliminate this issue.
The Best Portable Choice – I love this aircon! I saved our skins on so many hot Melbourne nights. I have tried many of the portables but only these Polocools really bring the goods an effective cool down a lounge room on a 40c plus day. They have much more solid construction than most of the others and also don't require the water being emptied as they mist it into… Read more

Trust me, the others are pretty much a waste of time compared to this unit. Good news on spare parts too, they are readily available locally in Melbourne from Polocool.
Sure its dearer but you can't go wrong with this unit.
It's worth it.
Good unit to cool down a lounge room space – The unit was a savior during summer. The installation was relatively simple, but moving it beyond the living area is a little difficult. Using it in the bedroom was obstructed by the plastic window output not being long enough to lodge in the door. The unit was relatively quiet compared to the previous Polocool unit we had. Pretty satisfied with the unit but it was just short of strength making it into the bedroom. Show details
Great product! – I'm very satisfied with this aircon, cools my small room down completely and isn't too noisey at all. The price of the aircon is completely worth the value! I'm a very happy customer and would definitely recommend the brand Polocool for your next air con purchase. Thanks Polocool for helping me with this heat! Show details
Wouldn't be sleeping at night without it – Extremely satisfied with this unit. Very easy to install, hubby installed all on his own. The noise of the unit is medium. Excellent product for this Australian summer. If we didn't have it no one would be sleeping as kids can't handle overheating. Would recommend product to friends and family. Show details
Pure coolness at its best – I would be lost without this magical unit now. It has managed to keep up on the hottest of our days without so much as a hiccup. My son has autism and doesn't cope with the heat well so this has been a god send. The noise is actually not that loud which i was happy with. Show details
This is the best refrigerated Air Con – This unit is amazing, it has far exceeded my expectations. The unit will cool a good sized room on the hottest of days. Hot Weather Saver – This machine is AMAZING!! we got this living in a very small apartment and it literally takes moments to cool down the place and it keeps it cool. We find this sometimes better than a standard split system in the hot summer days. we will always use this during summer Show details
The best portable air conditioner on the market – Cooling a fairly large bedroom in 40 plus degree heat is a big job for any AC and this one did it perfectly. When this unit was 'built in' by linking the side of the unit to the outside of the room the efficiency increased greatly. By creating a cowl on the intake grill side of the A/C, I could join the side of the airconditioner to the window via a duct. It means that air coming in from outside passes in over the heat exchanger and this warmer air is expelled out the usual exhaust duct at the back of the airconditioner. The A/C still pumps out cool air but is no longer drawing hot air into the room at the same time. The end result is the 15 sq metre room is cooled by a good 10 degrees instead of just five degrees, and it will cool down to 25 degrees on a 35 degree day. Perhaps Polocool should create an upgrade kit for this machine. Re design the intake grill to take an inlet duct. Then it would approach the performance of an 'in wall' air conditioner, or be equal to a twin pipe portable air conditioner.
