Complete junk – My family of four are good ecowarriors, but we still function in the modern world. We routinely air dry our clothes on a line, and only use a clothes dryer during sustained periods of damp weather. Because of our low use, I just went for a really simple dryer – it just needs to heat and turn. All good in theory. We spent big bucks on a Miele… Read more

washing machine, which was money well spent, but couldn’t justify big bucks on a rarely used dryer.

First attempt with damp towels, it stopped working. Drive belt had slipped off. Rather than take weekdays off work waiting for a technician, I pulled the back off, did some Houdini work with my hands and put the belt back on. Sometimes the belts shred as well. In 5 years, it’s been through three belts, and I’ve put the belt back on about 10 times. I’ve also replaced the idler/tensioner pulley, lest that be the cause. It only does about 15 loads a year! We now have a self- imposed two towel limit, although the manual implies it should be able to take 12..

As an engineer, I usually do my homework thoroughly, and this is only the second real lemon my family has owned in decades. Facing up to shredded belt number 4, I came here to consider a replacement and needed to vent.

The only good things I can say are:

There are not many components to go wrong.

The timer and heater element have survived 5 years.

The regular drum reversal means things don’t tangle up.

Very good, easy to use clothes dryer – Very happy so far with this dryer. My previous Simpson clothes dryer was over 20 years old and had worked well. This new dryer is easy to use, with a simple knob to dial up drying time required and a choice between hot or warm air. I had thought about purchasing a sensor dryer but am pleased I went with this one. Simple control, less things to… Read more

go wrong as there are no push buttons to get stuck or led lights to blow. Much quieter than our old dryer which is a plus. As our old dryer was vented to the outside, I had to purchase a new venting kit for the new dryer as the size had changed. The venting hose now sticks up above the dryer slightly due to the placement of the vent on the back of the machine, rather than at the side as the old one did and was hidden by a panel next to our overhead cupboards in the laundry, but this doesn't really bother me, just something to be aware of if you are purchasing a venting kit. Access to the lint filter is easy, just inside the door. I had to lean all the way in to the back of the dryer to access the lint filter in my old Simpson so this is an improvement. This unit is slightly taller than my old dryer so the reinforcement for the wall brackets had to be moved up a few centimetres so that the lid of my top load washing machine could be fully lifted. All in all, very happy with this dryer so far.

Great lint catching (keeping laundry clean from lint build up) – I researched clothes dryers before buying this one probably more than I've researched anything I've bought cos I was so frustrated with clothes dryers that spread more lint into the room than they caught in the lint catcher!! (And yes I did clean the lint catcher frequently, after each dry and there was still a build up of lint in the room) … Read more

So my need was to buy a dryer that didn't spread lint all over my laundry.

My previous two dryers (Hoover and Electrolux) were terrible with the build up of lint they created all over my laundry. Both dryers had lint catchers on the door and perhaps that was the problem, I'm not really sure why they were so bad but it was certainly a pain!! Anyway Simpson dryer is clean and catches the lint no problem. The lint catcher is inside the machine. The price was a nice surprise too cos it was on the cheaper end of driers. Lint catcher works well, clean, great value for money, drying works well

Great dryer - winter impossible without it – This seem to be tumbling nearly ever time I go into the laundry these days. That's how it is in Victoria over winter. There is pretty much no other way to dry your clothes and so a reliable dryer is required. I got this Simpson 5kg over five years ago and is just keeps rolling along. Never had any problems, never needed a service. Just works!  Show details

Very reliable - no probs at all – We have had this for years and never experienced any grief with it. Other appliances have come and gone but this still remains. Times like this (winter) it is indispensable and has earned its "stripes" many times over. Nothing fancy about thos model, no computers to go wrong, just a simple design that's as robust as a kingswood.  Show details

Great dryer – Love this dryer. It changes spin direction frequently so that all your clothes get a proper airing. Easy to install on the wall and a great price. No issues to speak off we have had ours since jan 2018. We think it is a great investment. Never skips a beat  Show details

Lasted a little over 13 months – Purchased in June 2016 after previous eziloader stopped working. Was told that this model was better, and didn't have the problems with the previous model. Yesterday the dryer stopped working. No clue why. Filter was clean, not overloaded, no smell or noise, nothing wrong with power supply. Rang Electrolux to see what could be done. Bing lee… Read more

thought for sure that given that it was so close to expiry of warranty that they would honour the warranty.

Instead, I was told that there would be a $145 call out fee to inspect and if it was a manufacturing problem then I would have to pay. Having read the reviews here I'm skeptical to investigate as it seems like I will be up for $145 minimum. Any people who can recommend fix it yourself websites can pm me.

Otherwise those looking at buying this -

Do not waste your money on this product.

Lasted 2 years with light use – Being electricity conscious I only use my dryer when I absolutely have to. This poor quality dryer has only lasted 2 years and the drum has stopped spinning. Looking at this site and other forums, this is a common defect, of which I informed Electrolux, however they will not acknowledge any problem because "there are no recalls in place". $500 for 2 years of light use and now they expect me to pay one of their technicians to come out.  Show details

Most people dont think ! – The reviews albeit mainly bad describe that the dryer cuts out, gets hot and cuts out, funny burning smell etc.etc The problem would be generally a broken fan belt. ie no air blows out the back or front. Der freddy. Surely the user must notice that ( no hot air ) !!! Floor mounted about 10 minutes to fix, belts on ebay 2 x $20 delivered model… Read more

no. required but they are quite generic with Simpson. Why dont the customer service people reply with this info.?

Great dryer – This is a very good clothes dryer - it is nice and quiet, is a good size for our needs. It tumbles and then stops and goes again. The lint collection unit is easy to get out and clean. Would recommend this dryer for a busy family as it's very reliable.  Show details

Just keeps rollin' on! – This is like old man river 'it just keeps rollin'. I bought it over ten years ago and it has been with us through three house moves. It still works and has never had the back off. We don't really use it that much, just to finish up clothes and especially in winter but its rear to have an appliance last so long. Impressive!  Show details

Excellent reliable family dryer – I got the many years ago and it probably the most reliable appliance I have had. It just keeps working and doing a good job. The only repair its ever needed was done by me - the belt slipped off when I moved t once. All I did was open it and put it back. I wish all machines were this reliable! It just works.  Show details

Had it for years works great – I bought this with a five year warranty (paid extra) years ago and it has run like a clock ever since. Hasnt needed any service of any kind except for the normal cleaning of the lint filter. Its the same size rating as out washer (5kg) so times like now (winter) we just load it straight from the washer. Its simple, it always works!  Show details

Good reliable dryer – . This is strong reliable and simple (much like me). It freezing in melbourne now and I am glad we have this - I don't see how anyone could actually dry clothes without a dryer at this time of year. There are no fancy computer controls or reverse action tumbling. Just a simple reliable design that keeps on working. You do need to keep an eye on it… Read more

and guess the correct time because it can "overcook" the clothes but apart from that I am a very satisfied owner.

Has been the most realiable appliance – We have had this for over five years now and it just never stops. I don't have to think about it - it always works. Its very simple. A dial for the time and hot or warm! It's just a big drum with a belt and a motor and heat element. Not much too them but Simpsons dryers seem to just keep on going. It probably isn't that efficient, but it dries very quickly. I have already had my money's worth so any extra time is a bonus!  Show details

Great Dryer Good Buy – This was a bit of a present to myself after putting up with a shocking old dryer for years. I got the stainless steel drum and 5kg options. Its great! Quiet and does and excellent and quick job of drying. Its very simple with just a heat selector and timer. There is no maintenance save for emptying the lint filter. I am happy with this - it works very well.  Show details

Reliable Simpson Dryer – . I felt comfortable choosing Simpson because they are an Aussie company and they have been around forever. We got the 5KG model which is plenty for a couple. Its a very simple machine and it works very well. I can put the whole load of washing in in one go, the only exception is sheets and doona covers which go better on their own. It has two settings: hot and warm - that's it! Its a good simple machine that should keep running for years.  Show details

Good Family Dryer – This is seems like the same dryer Simpson has been making forever! That's a good thing because simple is good and Simpson make long lasting products. Good Dryer No Frills – This is the smaller Simpson dryer. I really like it. It is simple and effective. Maybe too effective sometimes because it can get quite hot so you need to watch it. Because of its smaller size you have to limit what you put in it and sometimes split drying in half with a large washing load. It just has a time and heat switch. Not much to go wrong and it works well. Can be wall mounted and I think a vent kit is available too.  Show details

Does exactly what it needs to do – Dryers aren't complicated machines. I don't need fancy buttons and LED screens to get my clothes dry, and after grabbing this at a great price over 2 years ago now I'm happy to say this thing does exactly what it needs to do. Nothing's broken, clothes haven't shrunk or gotten ruined, and I haven't noticed a huge spike in energy consumption even… Read more

Great! – I bought this dryer 4 years ago. It’s been fantastic. I’ve had it on the floor and recently had it wall mounted. It dries clothes effectively, half a load in my 8.5kg washer is dried in 45 mins. I use it twice a week. Having dogs (one a German Shepherd) it also removes most if not all hair from the clothes as well. Very happy.  Show details

Good for the money and years we had it – We bought the Simpson clothes dryer six years ago and was an affordable dryer at the time. Only disadvantage was that it did not have a great energy rating so used more power consumption. I would recommend this dryer if you have a batch or rental as long term it does chew through the power. It served its purpose as did a great job with no… Read more

breakdowns for the time I had it. I invested in a sensor dryer this time as it does the work for me. Great dryer the Simpson for my recommendation as mentioned but not a long term everyday living only because of high power usage.

Great Machine – Very happy with our new dryer purchased 6 months ago and can't fault it. Love the way the barrel swaps the direction of spin means my clothes dry faster more evenly and less wrinkled. The lint trap is so easy to remove and clean. Fit a good amount of clothes and dries them very quickly.  Show details

Very good – After 15 or 20 years with our old Simpson Sirocco, we bought a new Stainless bowl Simpson 39S500M from Hardly Normals and so far, it's going very well. Good value - simple and effective – Bought the 4kg 39P400M 4 months ago - gets daily use for family with teenagers and no time for line drying - Consistently works with full load dry in approx 40 minutes (including jeans etc) -Cool down cycle prevents shrinkage. - Quiet (laundry next to living area) - For a simple dryer (where you don't need an auto sensor), this is good value for money  Show details

I like this one – I purchased this Simpson 5kg dryer after a bad run with a Fisher and Paykel one. I have only had it for one month.....but it is a basic no nonsense hard working dryer. The bowl is stainless steel, and a very generous 5kg. Not too noisy, and dries well. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good quality dryer.  Show details

Simplicity at its best – Basic design and easy to wall-mount. Reasonably quiet operation and great for those who want simple and uncomplicated functionality. We haven't bothered with purchasing venting kits and the only visual gripe I have is that while the 'simpson' name plate can be reinstalled the right way when wall mounting, the words esi-loader remain embossed upside down.  Show details

Awesome – The Simpson dryer is a 5kg dryer with easy to use basic buttons hot or cooler for more delicate clothes or airing, no electronics to break down . Dries in a good amount of time even towels. Stainless Steel bowl which I love as its hard wearing. It looks good and isn't bulky. I try not to use a dryer much as I love my washing out in the fresh air but there are times we can't stop the rain is recommend this.  Show details

Venting is such an unnecessary hassle - even their venting kit doesn't work unless you can vent off – I tried using standard jubilee clips but the vent is indented in such a way that you can't tighten the clips around the lip of the vent. AND the Simpson vent kit has a curve so it only fits if you're venting out the left hand side of the dryer.
