Occasional use over the years with one hardware fault – Had the Blu-ray laser fail in our slim ps3 so couldn't play ps3 games or watch blu-ray movies but could still watch DVDs. Bought a replacement laser assembly part from Aliexpress.com for ~$30 and hasn't missed a beat since.

Paystation 3 becoming less functional – I used to love the fact you could install a OS and have ability to use it for other things beside gaming. Updates take these certain features away but, in turn you get to play new released games. No backwards compatibility for ps2 game or free multiplayer. Let alone DLC content that should be included in the game you must pay to unlock or add on.… Read more

This greed machine is fun otherwise allowing you to play some great ps3 titles....until the cd drive stops working :)

Sony Paystation 3 was made for fun but built for greed.

Microsoft is not better.

ps3 slim – i do a lot of repairs on these ,,,to be truthful ,i really think sony has gone backwards with these ,,they have more faults than the early fat models,,,bluray laser die very easy,,the drive itself will pack it in ,,power supplies fail ,,,you have to be very careful with updating the firmware (best to do it by usb and not internet ,,,a must thing… Read more

to do is when you are watching a movie ,,turn it of by the ps key first ,,if you do not do this ,it can corrupt the file system and you have to do a reset to get it to read discs again ,,i can keep listing a lot of faults for these consoles but to many ,,the later ones are even cheaper made than the first version of the slim ,,they are made more to a price than quality easy to work on ,,parts are a reasonable price,,they need to be as ther are a lot of parts that fail lots of things ,,biggest faults are heat and dust ,,heat can cause the psu to fail due to the fact that the fan draws heat from the chips and blows it out though the power supply which also creates heat ,,both these added together causes the faults ,,bad design in this area

This is the right time to buy one now – At $224 now at Kmart, this is a good console to get. I am disappointed with the older unit where ylode occurs due to over heating, this means there wasn't any good quality control on Sony's part. What I especially hate is the ridculas amount of firmware updates just to play a game. PS2 had none at just worked. Slim, can play BD and 3D BD. now is so cheap. Too many firmware updates within a short period.

Noisy Noisy Noisy!!! – Very dissapointed in this product. I bought this product for two reasons. 1. To play games (daughter). 2. To watch Blu-Ray movies. The machine makes very loud clicking and whirring noises when playing games. When watching Blu-Ray or DVD movies there is a constant loud and annoying fan noise. The fan noise is so loud that I subsequently bought a dedicated Blu-Ray player (Philips) to watch movies (which is almost silent). Much too noisy

Great entertainment unit – I originally bought the playstation due to my previous experience with the playstation 2. The gaming is free for online play & the amount of games help. the system comes with blu ray, meaning you can use it as a dvd unit as well. I now have two units for the house and enjoy the additional options you can get by using the wi fi. basically you… Read more

will get more life for the games with being online. finishing the game doesn't result in the game being useless.

I also bought the tv component, meaning I am able to record tv direct to the hard drive. Online features, blu ray, wireless controls, Slow download rates & the massive hack in 2011 meaning I had to cancel credit cards.

Great Machine – Great machine, does everything it is supposed to do. We have owned one for about three years now without any problems. I would recommend this gaming system as I think Sony have done a great job on the design and quality of the build. The graphics are very detailed compared to other gaming machines. We have ours hooked up to a Samsung 46 inch LED.… Read more ·  1

The blue ray player does a good job on the movies too. Probably the best gaming console out there. A lot of the games are pretty violent and graphic, World at War, etc. although fun to play. Not for little kids, stick to the Wii.
