Still going after 10 years! – This fridge has been great. Never serviced and after 10 years is still going strong. The seals are finally starting to give out but otherwise has serviced a growing family well. Amazing fridge which is still running as long as my wife and I have been married...10 years in Jan!  Show details

Great – Our fridge has been operating for just over a year. Very very quiet- don't know it is running. Some friends complain they cannot sleep in a quiet house because they can hear their fridge- no problems with that here! Shelves needed a clean before we used it but that was very easy to do. It does get very cold so we have to consider that when setting the temperature.  Show details

Great fridge – I have had this fridge for 7 years, was surprised by bad reviews. Mine has been moved 4 times, never missed a beat, still looks and works like a new fridge. Very happy girl. Easy to clean, plenty of room, I have an independent thermometer in it and it has maintained same temperature for 7 years.

Broken down 4 times – Fridge worked okay for a couple of years. But recently (as it approaches the end of warranty) it has been failing on a regular basis. Whirlpool take two days to assign a repair company and they take about a week to show up. Then if they need a part ... that's another week. It's no fun not having a fridge or freezer at Christmas time in Sydney. Of… Read more

course every time it breaks down we lose a tonne of food and then every time the repair people need to come someone has to take a day off work.

Not frost free – I had this fridge and was working fine until the 5th yr when I notice the refrigerator area not cooling, even when freezer was working fine. Had called the customer service and they asked me to defrost it for the whole day - which I did. After defrosting, it was working fine again but this issue keeps coming back, after 3-4 months. I have to… Read more

defrost the fridge regularly which is a pain. Lucky I have another fridge in my garage where I put my food when I defrost this. Not impressed with the quality.

Fridge section not cooling – We bought this fridge new 2012 from H.N. Thought we would have got at least 10 years from a well known brand. Fridge stops cooling now around every 2-3 weeks, so we do the usual and defrost 24 + hours. ( 4 times so far ) Reading reviews, I have to concede that it look's like a new fridge is on the cards. Funny thing is i have an old fridge ( kelvinator ), i bought second hand 40 years ago and is still going.  Show details

No complaints here – I purchased this Fridge, a Whirlpool WRID4TS in (2009). It was to replace a Samsung, the type/version of it, is best described as a nightmare, one that lasted a year. The only good thing to come out of that experience was my Whirlpool:) and perhaps the knowledge gained in the process. Having my full purchase price and the cost of food that was… Read more

spoiled in the process, returned to me, albeit begrudgingly, however, rightfully.

It’s now 2022 and the Whirlpool, is running as well as it did the day it was delivered. I have had a “Powerpal” installed, gratis of the Victorian State Government. Therefore I am able to see the cost of running my fridge 24/7. Currently it’s approx < 2 cents an hour. (Figure based on my Electricity Plan) As I said at the beginning…. NO COMPLAINTS HERE.

10 years old and still going strong – Just dont overload it and don't leave the doors open for too long when its humid. My partner has done this and it needed defrosting. If you use it correctly then you'll have no issues Show details

Once loyal but no longer – We bought a Whirlpool fridge following good service from our Whirlpool dishwasher and reasonable service from our Whirlpool washing machine. The first fridge lasted a month before shutting down, ruining 6 blocks of West Australian pillies worth over $90. No parts in Australia so a new machine arrived a couple of weeks later. Now after four or so… Read more

years we have a working freezer but no fridge and this time it cost me a rather nice catch of fish . I weighed up getting it repaired but after reading other reviews here have decided to cut my losses. Went to two rather large retailers today and both salesman shook their heads when I mentioned Whirlpool. Will stick to Electrolux products from now. Given I can't get parts to repair the dishwasher and the top of the washing machine has rusted badly I am thinking Whirlpool has certainly dropped the ball and best avoided

Failed after 3 years. Stay away from Whirlpool products where you can – tl;dr: fridge failed (defrosting system - fridge compartment doesn't get cold air) after only 3 years. Repairs and replacement part cost exceeded value of the fridge, so forced to buy new instead. Manual defrosting, etc did not help, and the issue would return. I bought this fridge brand new. At maximum it was only ever used at the medium… Read more

cooling setting in fridge & freezer. After 3 years, the fridge compartment would no longer cool. Turns out the freezer defroster system stopped working. I manually defrosted the fridge a few times, but the problem would return after 2-3 weeks. The price I was quoted to check and replace parts exceeded the used value of the fridge, so forced to buy a new one. I will never buy a Whirlpool appliance again, and will pass on this advice to friends and family wherever I can.

Fridge is not working, freezer is fine – I bought this used fridge about 15 months ago, the fridge chamber stopped cooling after 2 months of purchase, after browsing most the reviews below I decide not bother to get it check up , coz the call out fee for Tech guy to run a check up about 100bucks and it seems only buying you some time and very likely same issue will happen again  Show details

It's not the best fridge to go for – Got this fridge as a gift abt 3yrs ago, still cool enough to keep my ice cream and drinks. But it can be noisy especially at night time, have no intention to get it fixed as it's not a big issue to my family. The fridge is perfect for a family of 3 and easy to clean. Hope this fridge can last longer before I have to get a new one.  Show details

Bad quality – I purchased a new apartment in 2013, so I went out and perchased all new items for it. I got a fridge, washer, dryer and a microwave all in whirlpool brand as I remember them being good. Latest Technical Problem – Why is my fridge poring water out of the top front grill into the body? It is constant. Previously, when about 2.5 years old we had to replace the defrost switch as the fridge kept heating up internally because it was not defrosting as it is supposed to do regularly. We feel as though we have bought a 'melon'!  Show details

Gurgled and belched from Day 1; now belly-up; RIP Whirlpool fridge – Beyond 2.5 years it failed at least 3 times to maintain even temperature; no cooling at all in the lower chamber; the gurgling/belching sound it made since brand new left my own stomach unsettled; obviously no quality control or consideration of compatibility with Australian conditions; something terribly amiss here; never overloaded; always kept… Read more

clean and maintained; absolutely unreliable performance; couldn't be bothered getting it fixed again; will I accept it has reached its end date and replace it with a later model Whirlpool product? Desired outcome achieved? Would I recommend it to anyone else? Never!!!

Freezer works overtime and fridge not cold at all – Freezer works overtime and fridge section not cold. Has happened three times now. Design fail by Whirlpool as it seems these fridges are not tested in Australian summer heat. Repair guy who visited the first time said it is common. The panel inside the back of the fridge freezes up and the current of air can't move into the fridge section. Turn fridge off and leave it to melt inside the back panel ( I left it overnight) then turn on again.  Show details

SHAME Whirlpool SHAME – I have been having problems with this fridge since before the warranty ended. Couldn't get support in Western Australia without being told I would have to wait up to 3 or 4 weeks before anyone could come and look at it as it was summer time and busy! I ended up dealing with it myself by turning it off and defrosting it over a 9 day period. Now it… Read more

Freezer works, fridge doesnt – Like everyone else here. Terrible fridge. Temporary solution - open freezer, remove backing plate, hairdry the ice taking up the radiator. Buys you 1 week some times. Tested the autodefrost unit - still has good resistance - therefore like everyone elses, likely a circuit board problem. Not worth fixing. We still have a fridge working that is more than 26 years old!!!  Show details

This is the worst fridge I have ever had – It is noisy - such a range of waterfall, whip crack, murmur and rattle we need to close the bedroom door to be able to sleep though it! I have had repairman out three times due to icing up of the inlet into the fridge, and due to the crisper icing up. It is a rubbish product!  Show details

Never will buy Whirlpool fridge again – A terrible experience I had with this fridge. The first one I bought got replaced within 3 months after buying. I got the current one after replacement, which worked for almost 4 years. How lucky I am compared to other customers! The freezer is working but there is no cooling effect in the fridge. The noise is unbearable! I would not buy any Whirlpool product anymore. Such a crap!

Crap! – Like everyone else, mine played up after about 2.5 years. Fridge stopped cooling, freezer went into overdrive making it extremely noisy. It struggled during summer. Had a service man have a look, he mentioned turning it off for a few days to let the pipes defrost. Said its not even worth spending money fixing it. We managed to get another year out of it barely working. After 4 years, it's finally stopped working. Waste of money!

Like everyone, mines broken – Fridge 4 years old. Fridge warm but freezer ok. Took back cover off freezer to find the evaporator coils all iced up. Not auto defrosting. Technician diagnosed the main board but its on backorder with at least a 2 month wait at the earliest! Loudest fridge ever known to man. Now because it won't defrost for itself, every 2 weeks I have to turn… Read more

fridge off for a day or 2 to let it defrost until the new main board arrives. And to top things off, the last few days, the compressor doesn't run enough and now the freezer is getting warm too!!! Compressor hasn't run all day and its 8pm!!

Only thing saving this piece of junk going to landfill is the fact that I paid extra for a 5 year warranty when I bought the fridge 4 years ago.

No wonder this fridge is discontinued. Parts hard to come by.

Pros ----- Ohh the LED lights are kinda cool in the fridge compartment

Cons----- Everything but the LED lights

good until it stopped – Had similar prob to others here. Freezer good, fridge only just cooling. Defrost for a day or 2, works for a week. 5 minutes nothing, give the white box at the back in the engine compartment, a couple of hard taps. It has to be turned on so don't tap anything but white box. Worked for me. Anyway, my whirlpool fridge, which I bought specifically seeing it was black, was a real let down. But then again, it was made in India not Australia.

Great Service, good product – Fridge ran well for 2 years & two months and then stopped getting cold in the fridge, after trying a defrost to fix the problem both the fridge and freezer stopped working. I was very worried after reading the reviews that the fridge would be lost however I rang whirlpool service (which is outsourced to another company) and they were great, they… Read more

said they would do a one-off out of warranty service for me. A serviceman was out the next day and the fridge was fixed a few days later when the new circuit board came in.

I found out while waiting for the parts i found out that our house had a power problem which was causing the voltage to fall by up to 30% and it's entirely possible this caused the fault. Other appliances in the house stopped working but the fridge was the only one to fail. Hopefully this is more representative of Whirlpool now as 80-90% of the reviews I read while trying to find a solution to the problem myself were bad to terrible.

The fridge its self is good without being great, temperature control isn't as intuitive as it could be and it is a little noisy at times (but not a big deal).

horrible – Don't buy.. 4 yrs and fridge is not cooling.. good guys warners bay nsw wont help as outside warranty and say consumer warranty has also expired even thou to my knowledge there is no actual time. Depends on price and item.. id expect a fridge to last more than 4 yrs.. Not good enough.. noticed other companies are replying and trying to sort out issues.. haven't seen any replies from whirlpool at all...

Terrible – Stopped working just outside the warranty and cost me $270 to have the control board replaced. Most of this was the exorbitant cost of the simple circuit board. Six months later it has started freezing the food in the refrigerator compartment even with the temperature control turned to minimum. Will not buy Whirlpool products again.

Very Disappointing – Similar to other reviews except reversed. Brought the fridge (WRID41TC) new in 2012, the freezer stopped freezing food after about 1 1/2 years yet still seems to do ice fine, and fridge seems to be working ok. Had to get rid of all our food in the freezer. Very costly. Will not buy Whirlpool again

Whirlpool = no good – Same as many other writers before me: * Fridge part does not cool * Freezer working but icing up Age of fridge: 4 years (so I should count myself lucky after others' fridges only lasted 2.5-3.5 years) Conclusion: Whirlpool will never be on my shopping list and will be shamed towards friends. Looking forward: To the Whirlpool brand taking a hit.

Not good at all – 2 mayor repairs in 4 years, it almost cost me the amount I paid for it new. First problem a big black box in the back was replaced. Last problem was the board, had to trash all my food for the second time, very frustrating. Don't buy looks some other brands. Rubbish.
