Buyers beware – This fridge ran fine for about 3 years as a beer / second fridge in the garage and then the troubles started. The first problem was water leaking into the fridge compartment. Then it sounded like ice was forming around the fan in the freezer making it incredibly noisy and incapable of reaching freezing temperature. Defrosting fixed this at first… Read more

but now it would require defrosting monthly to keep it operational and still may not reach freezing temp in the freezer. Very very disappointing and in my opinion it is rubbish.

Same issues of ice stack in freezer and water leaking - Negative Ratings – I have same issues as others. After cleaning ice every 6 months since last 3.5 years My Fan motor died and it will cost me around 200 to replace it altogether with parts. I am dumping this fridge and looking for another one. I feel it is useless to spend any money on this fridge.  Show details

Worthy of a first round ballot nomination in the Useless Appliance's Hall of Fame – Hopeless device. We initially bought it due to its compartment layout and branding quality. Turns out we were wrong on the second part. Fridge compartment leaks water and we tried using containers to protect food from leaks with no avail. Freezer compartment freezes over with ice, about 3-4mm thick. Every time I had to chip away at the ice and it… Read more

became part of my house routine; waste of time. Now I just found out that the fridge compartment died due to the discovery of recently rotted celery. I really want to give it zero stars, but I'll give it one because I'm happy for the opportunity to get a decent fridge and never see this garbage ever again.

Less than 1 star!! – Looks as if this fridge has a design flaw that makes it not fit for purpose. We have one that has excessive ice build up, that leaks water throughout the fridge and has the motor running continuously when the fridge door is closed. We've defrosted it numerous times and do not run it at maximum and the problems come back in hours. All this seems all too familiar with the other reviews. IT'S A DUD!  Show details

Poor performance – Noisy, water dripping from freezer to fridge, bloody painful. So disappointed. Already paid twice for the repair. Would not recommend Whirlpool to anyone. I would only give 1 star to the fridge, they really need to pay some compensation for the painful experience. Not going for Whirlpool for the rest of my life.  Show details

Confirmation of Issue – Reading these reviews only confirms my issues with same fridge - started icing up while under warranty - within first six months. Had someone come out from company to defrost after fridge started icing over and motor sounding like it was about to die. Was fine for about 1 year, then same issue - out of warranty. Have had period where nothing… Read more

happens for 3-4 months then continues to freeze up every 2-4 weeks (depending).

Time for new one now anyway - but won't be going for Whirlpool again.

Owned for over 5 years and no issues at all – No issues with anything. Temperature and noise all fine. Not a fault in over 5 years. Light bulb only just went! It has gone a bit yellow but I think that's common to white goods? I probably would now only get a side by side fridge but for what it is, this fridge has been fantastic.  Show details

Worst fridge ever – This fridge is absolute rubbish. Drain ices up constantly and causes the motor to run constantly to try and keep cool. Be warned do not buy this fridge, do no accept this fridge as a gift. If you have one take it to the scrap metal dealers to save anyone else from the heartache of owning it. Worst fridge ever. Only given one star rating as unable to give zero stars.  Show details

Major design flaws make for a wasteful unit – Works fine...until the drain pipes ice up, causing the a huge block of ice to form in the freezer above the drain. The de-icing heater does just enough work for a couple of dozen mL of water to leak down into the fridge part...if you're lucky enough that the air vent from the freezer to the fridge doesn't totally ice up. If it does then the… Read more

WRO34 will run flat out trying to cool the fridge, but it just causes more ice to form in the freezer.

Only way to fix this is to pull the inner back wall of the freezer off and give it 24+ hours to defrost. For added insult, spare parts (eg defrost timers, heaters) for this fridge seem to be more expensive than other equivalent brands.

Agree with the rest of the reviews - terrible – I agree with the rest of the negative reviews based on the exact same issues that have continued the eitire time i've owner it. Water continuosly leaking into the fridge compartment and at least 4 inches of ice build up in the rear of the freezer compartment that took over 5 hours to defrost by hand. Now finally the motor has gone completely… Read more

spoiling yet another fridge and freezer full of food. I've got no interest in spending the time or money to try to fix it - I'll be chucking it out and buying a new brand. I won't be buying a Whirlpool again and would rate it lower than one star if i could.

Utter rubbish – Would give it less than one star if I could. Leaks water into the fridge compartment on a regular basis, exterior sides get really hot, fridge compartment doesn't get food really cold, freezer compartment will get things frozen most times but sometimes just doesn't. Even though this was bought secondhand I think it is a pretty poor product and enough to make me avoid Whirlpool appliances in the future.  Show details

Worst fridge...EVER – Two years old and seals have perished the fridge is no longer keeping things cold. To top it off one day I took a shelf out and it shattered in my hands putting glass everywhere across my kitchen. Was great when I first got it but now it is terrible. Edited to add that the freezer iced right up, I had to pull the internal plate off the back of… Read more

the freezer and took me three hours to defrost the rock-hard ice. Also, the pipes taking the cold air from freezer to fridge were iced up and that is why it wasn't keeping colt. Now the seals have just about fallen off. Now looking at a new fridge...Not a whirlpool!

Absolute shocker – I agree with everyone's negative reviews about this fridge, all spot on - the fridge is a disaster. Mine is less than two years old. Totally sick of water all over my shelves and food plus floor. Was thinking about using it as a beer fridge (outside - only place for it) however I don't even think it is good enough for my beer so the dump it will go. Will never buy Whirlpool again.

Buy this if you want to throw food away – This unit is the worst I have come across. There are so many flaws with it and I can not believe it ever passed the qa checks. The unit is noisy- it sounds like a herd of cows mooing. The drain pipes are totally inadequate and I'll designed. They block up, causing the freezer to fill with ice, which blocks the cold air vent to the fridge,… Read more

leaving the fridge hot and the food to spoil, it will go through an intermittent and random massive defrost leaving all of your frozen food with freezer burn, after this, the water will leak through the whole fridge in all shelves, and onto the floor of your kitchen. I estimate I have lost far more food than the value of this refrigerator ($700+)

The unit was faulty within 6 months of purchase and despite totally de icing the whole unit all failures repeat. This is easily the worst appliance I have ever owned and will not ever buy another whirlpool product. I recommend that absolutely no one buy this product under any circumstances, it will cost you a lot of hard earned money, and possibly even your health with its intermittent temperature fluctuations. If it was possible I would give it -1 star as it adds an extra stress to your life rather than being helpful.

Noisy Fridge. Timed to destroy itself after warranty – Had purchased this fridge in June 2012 from Aplliances online. It worked well initially, like other Fridges i have had in the past, but this is my first whirlpool make. Have to contend that, hadn't done my homework on the reviews about this fridge. After say, 4 months from purchase started to feel it did sound noisier than other makes, but we got… Read more

used to it. For the past one month it seemed as if it was always switched on and suddenly went flat. Just the Fridge compartment light is on without any functioning. Feel like kicking myself for having done all the frozen items shopping just yesterday. Like somebody else in the forum remarked, i thought Fridges had to last for a minimum of 5 yrs, but this one is an exception, since it has chosen to self destroy after 2 yrs (when warranty expires). I must say that i knew something wasn't alright given that the noise was excessive these past few months, but then i thought it is due to the extra frozen items we were stocking up. Even in the freezer compartment not sure how that Freeze temperature controller works since regardless of setting it used to feel same. Not sure how much it would cost to fix it out of warranty. Guess, time to get a new one and make a mental note, not to look at any product of Whirlpool henceforth. If you are planning to buy one - Don't waste your money even if offered at a discount.

I hate this fridge! Less than one! – Purchased the fridge 25 months ago. Lots of noise coming from the fridge. Sounded like someone in pain. Ice and water pooling after 8 months. Freezer defrosted. Fridge not cold. Lost a heap of food. Got repair guy in. Said it was fixed. 7 months later same problem, lost food again. Whirlpool said too bad out of warrantee. I told them its not too… Read more

bad, Whirlpool have to provide service, as product is expected to last 5 years. (Legislation - Consumer Act) They said get the last report of the work and a copy of the receipt off the repairman and send to them to assess. I asked for a reference number. I was put on hold. He came back and offered a 'once off' favour to repair. I told him don't care about 'once off's' Whirlpool are required by law to provide a product that is going to reasonably last up to 5 years. I accepted the offer to repair - but told him I would write to everyone I could possibly think of to complain about their product and service.

Wouldn't even give it one star – worked ok for 6 months then noticed small amounts of water pooling on top shelf - thought it was condensation?? slowly got worse until water increased and moved to all shelfs. Whirlpool sent rep out who said it would take 1 week to fix "common fault with this fridge". 9 weeks later - still not fixed - numerous phone calls to whirlpool with no… Read more

result as yet. Have had to buy a bar fridge just to keep things going (definitely not whirlpool). Do they not realise that when a young person buys a product and are happy with it they will make further purchases, when they have problems not only do they not buy whirlpool again but neither do their family, friends and any one else that hears about the problem. Bye Bye whirlpool was great when it worked broke down and followup care was very poor

Lasted 3 years only – The drain pipes froze up after 18 months causing water to spill from the fridge onto the floor. It took me 4 hours with a hairdryer to clear this. It worked ok for another 18 months but then suddenly stopped. We lost all the contents of the freezer. Them mysteriously it started again but by that time we'd ordered another machine from another manufacturer. Despite it restarting again we are getting rid of it since we can't trust it.

Very poor – Has always made strange noises, used to wake me at night, but worked okay most of the time. Now and then, it would not be as cold as usual, I'd defrost it, then it would come good. In the last few days, the freezer fan has been running a lot, now nothing works except the light. Saturday arvo, and it's full of snacks and drinks, for a bit of a… Read more

Totally agree ! – I bought mine from seconds world, with complete faith. In fact it was my first new fridge ever. Less than a month into the purchase, it started making intermittent 'death' noises. Groaning, in pain noises. Technician arrived, said i needed a replacement. Ok, called whirlpool and the 'hell' began. Took 3 weeks to get a replacement. Weeks into the… Read more

replacement time, it started making 'gurgling' noises, same m.O, same timing. Enough allready! Yes, the ice tray is [censored word removed], keeps breaking apart...Needing reconnection ! Sick and tired of the slog. All i want is a totally working fridge! Paid over $500 for a dud model......Don't buy! Keeps things cold It's rubbish

Fixed 4 times in 7 months – Terrible fridge. Doesn't keep food cold! Freezer blocks up. Have had it fixed under warranty 3 times, waiting on the 4th. Have lost 4 loads of food as the fridge doesn't keep the food cold. The freezer blocks up and over freezer food even on the lowest setting. The fridge gets really hot on the outside, even if in an open space. Quite a noisy… Read more

fridge also.

On top of that, the ice block mechanism is the worst ever. It broke with two months.

Over all, if you are thinking about buying this fridge, don't! My esky does a better job at keeping the food cold!!

Doesn't keep food cold. Freezer blocks up. Over heats. Ice block brakes easily. Terrible customer service.

Worst fridge ever! – Freezer clogged in the first few months! Under warranty so the repair guy came to fix it. Same problem happened again further down the track out of warranty and got it look at again. It got fixed but 2 months later, guess what? Had to defrosted it over night again! Have never had such a terrible fridge! Barely works as a fridge!

Would be good if it worked – This has to be the worst product ever, if whirlpool could fix it maybe it would be ok but 3 visits and they can’t even work out how to make it cool or freeze products. Forget there customer services you get the not there problem if y have to take time off work or loss all your food (one ok but 3 times I don’t think so). I would say don’t get anything Whirlpool manufacture!

Perfect fridge for a small family – I ordered this refrigerator from Good Guys and it was delivered to my house. Unfortunately after only two weeks, something faulty in the fridge meant that there was water leaking from the freezer down into the fridge. I called Whirlpool and they quickly organised a technician to resolve the problem. They were very thorough and prompt and I was… Read more ·  3
