Best Women's Hair Trimmers / Personal Groomers

plucking my facial hair! - and none have removed the hair on my face so that it is not visible like this product. And - of course! - it is not a permanent method of removing ‘peach fuzz’ - (also know as the very fine hair on your face) - and it may only make your hair less visible for a week - but there are two pluses to using this tool. One is its effectiveness - albeit for only a short time - and the second being that it provides a gentle exfoliation of your facial skin. The negatives are that it has to be done at least weekly - or dermaplaning skin as often as your hair grows and / or as often as you prefer - and you may exacerbate acne or nick yourself in your doing so. Regarding of my grand old age - I have had ‘peach fuss’ on my face since I was a teenager - due to hormones. And the noticeable peach fuzz has not decreased as I thought it would as I have grown older - actually it has increased. I have purchased other dermablading tools - and I have nicked my face quite badly regardless of my using the tool as directed. The Schick tool has a much better designed handle with grip and blades with micro guards. And both the handle and the guards make the using of the wand much safer and effective. The whole process of dermaplaning my face using the wand is much quicker and I have entailed no nicks as a result of my doing so The Schick dermaplaning tool is a great asset for removing peach fuzz if you are self conscious about it like I am - or for anyone who wants temporarily ‘invisible’ facial hair with the added bonus of having a gentle exfoliation at the same time.

What’s the difference between an electric shaver and a trimmer?
An electric shaver is used to remove your hair by cutting the hair close to the skin, whereas a trimmer is designed to cut long hairs shorter.
There are many reasons why you’d want to trim your hair instead of removing it completely. For instance, it reduces the risk of cuts, razor bumps, ingrown hairs and infections. Trimming can also give you a neat look without your hair growing back as unwanted stubble and you can avoid any pain that you might get from plucking or waxing.
Trimmers can be used on the ears, eyebrows, nose, upper lip, chin, abdominal hair, bikini line, underarms, arms, legs, chest and buttocks.
However, even if you opt to shave your hair completely - it’s still worth investing in a trimmer. Razors can only pick up short hairs so you’ll need to trim first before you shave.
Trimming vs shaving pubic hair
Remember, it’s never necessary to remove hair anywhere on your body in order to keep it clean as hair is natural and grooming/styling it is just a matter of personal preference.
Some women choose to remove their pubic hair completely by shaving or waxing whereas others choose to trim it.
Trimming is a basic and affordable way of maintaining the appearance and comfort of your pubic hair. You can use a pair of sanitised, sharp scissors to trim your hair - or you can opt for a bikini trimmer which is engineered to give you a comfortable and precise trim.
Shaving pubic hair can be done with a manual or electric razor and can give you a smooth, hairless finish. However, hair tends to grow back within a couple of days and the genital area can feel sensitive or prickly whilst it grows back. Shaving, while painless, gives way to a number of risks such as razor bumps, ingrown hairs, cuts and infections.
Waxing is another popular method of pubic hair removal which involves a thin layer of liquid wax being applied to the hairs and a cloth that is pulled off quickly to remove the hairs at the root. This method is likely to sting and can be more expensive than the other methods since it’ll need to be done professionally. However, the hairs tend to grow back much slower and there is a reduced risk of infections and cuts.
Other hair removal techniques
Depilatories or hair removal creams
This method of hair removal is generally affordable and painless. It involves applying a cream to the unwanted hairs, waiting between 5-10 minutes and removing them with a moist cloth.
It is generally usually used on facial hair and legs so it’s important to make sure that the product is safe to use on the pubic area before attempting to do so.
This method works by breaking down the keratin structure to thin and dissolve the base of the hairs just below the skin which can be wiped away when the cream is taken off. With hair depilation, you can stay stubble-free longer than shaving.
On the downside, these products can have a strong, unpleasant smell. You shouldn’t leave the cream on for any longer than indicated since you may notice redness, swelling, stinging or irritation as a consequence. Different skins have different levels of sensitivity so it’s important to choose the right product for you.
Be sure to test a small amount of the cream on a small patch of skin 24 hours before you attempt to remove hair over a larger area.
Laser hair removal
Laser hair removal is a treatment done by a professional that removes and delays hair growth. The procedure uses a strong beam of light to penetrate the skin and damage the hair follicle, preventing further immediate hair growth.
It works best on those with light skin and dark hair. Results tend to vary from person to person and some may notice temporary redness and swelling after the treatment. Laser hair removal can be very expensive and take 5 or more sessions to complete. It doesn’t remove hair permanently but can delay hair growth from months to years.
Electrolysis
Electrolysis is the only hair removal method that permanently removes the hair. A needle-shaped electrode is inserted into the skin and used to destroy the hair root. Unlike laser hair removal, it works effectively on all skin and hair colours and types and can be used anywhere on the body, including the eyebrows. The procedure can be painful and you may experience some skin irritation after the treatment.
The price varies depending on the region treated and how many sessions it requires.
What is a personal groomer?
An all-in-one personal groomer is an affordable and compact hair grooming system that comes with a stand and multiple accessories, including cleaning oil and a brush.
Many trimmers also come with a razor attached on the other end allowing you to get a clean trim before shaving the rest off. In addition, women’s personal groomers tend to come with detachable combs, allowing you to use the same product for trimming nose, ear and eyebrow hair.
They tend to have both wet and dry technology and waterproof construction, giving you the option of shaving in or out of the shower. The stand can be used as a charging station for the built-in rechargeable batteries.
What to look for when buying a trimmer or personal groomer
Speed
It’s advisable to choose a trimmer with more than one-speed setting because different speed settings work for different skin types. A trimmer with more variety is less likely to irritate your skin and provides more options in terms of achieving the trim you’re going for.
Battery life
Most women’s trimmers are cordless for easy operation and handling which means you should pay close attention to the battery life.
There are few things worse than a trimmer dying mid-trim, therefore you’ll want to choose a trimmer with a battery life long enough for your trimming routine.
Cheaper products tend to require replaceable batteries which will incur an additional cost, and more expensive trimmers will contain rechargeable batteries which save you money over time. Replaceable batteries may be a better option for those who travel a lot or don’t want to wait for their trimmers to recharge.
Waterproof
Some bikini trimmers are waterproof and can be used in the shower, whereas most others can be used only when the hair and body are dry. While waterproof trimmers are rarer, this may be an important feature to invest in for some who’d like to do their trimming during or after a shower.
Accessories
Many trimmers come with accessories such as trimming combs, additional blades and small shaver heads to make bikini trimming easier. They can also come with special cases or drawstring pouches for easy storage and portability.
Pricing
Women’s hair trimmers tend to range from $20-150 depending on the features and the brand. The price isn’t always a great indicator of quality, however, and it’s useful to know you’re getting your money’s worth. That’s why user reviews are so valuable in gauging how well a product works in practice as opposed to theory.
