Be great, if it worked – Worked once, second time very hard to get going, third time NOTHING, basically a piece of CRAP Show details
Great for far awy spotting – This torch for only 1500 lumium is incredible bright goes so far
Great value for money – Great torch, use it at the airport as an engineer.Lasts most of the shift which is great considering its 1500 LUMS.It’s got an IP 44 water resistance plus I’ve dropped it from highest and still works great. Show details
It is not a relabel product has to be recalled ! – Torch battery only lasts a short period of time no matter what you continual recharging it. I cannot recommend this product to any one. A similar problem appears to have occurred with other purchasers of this item can be seen on the review. Aldi needs to test these types of products before putting on the market & need to be recalled. Torch is bright but wont last long – Torch is bright but wont last long. Dies at the worst possible time. Not overly strong, dropped mine from waist height and lens popped out, rubber gromet for sealing the charge inlet was the first thing to go, after 4 charges it got mangled. $35 but probably should have bought one off ebay.really not worth the money Show details
Super bright – Best one I've ever bought it goes right through the paddock better than my husbands makita torch it looks like a light house light from across the paddock to my cousins house so bright I was amazed. Show details
Best and most powerful torch I have owned and the price is unbelievably good – This torch claims to be 1500 lumens and I believe that it is just that. I have many other torches including the excellent Ledlenser MT6 [600 lumen maximum] and Wolf Eyes Sniper-II [915 lumen maximum] , both of which are very well made and do an incredibly good job. The Lightway is a very convenient shape to handle with a head diameter of about… Read more
43mm and the handle is about 25mm in diameter. It is approximately 243mm long when focused maximum wide and 259mm long when focused to the tightest spot. Focusing is very easy and the range is excellent which makes it equally at home in a dark shed when set to wide beam and great for long distance when the head is easily slid out to create a tight pattern. It comes with 2 x very impressive Li-ion batteries providing 4,000 mAh. It feels very solid and has a 3 year warranty. It has 3 operational modes, full light intensity [100%], reduced intensity [50%] and flashing. It comes with a light diffuser, carrying strap and belt clip. It has a USB outlet of 5V at 1A [you can charge your phone with it - I have not ever done that, however] and also a micro USB input port of 5V and 1A which is used for charging. I very rarely have to charge it, the batteries do a great job. Admittedly I usually only have it on for a short bursts and it hardly ever needs charging. The thing I find hardest to believe is the price. It was only $29.99 at Aldi - I thought it too good to be true but the 1500 lumens boldly stated on the box gave me confidence and I was not let down. They became available some months later so I bought another one for my grandson. If they become available again I will get another one. It was a fantastically good buy.
OK but could be better – Beware battery configuration. There are 2 batteries in the pack, each 3.7V @ 2000mAh Now Watch OUT. It looks like they are in series would give 7.4V @ 2000 mAh. However this is not the case. They are actually connected in parallel giving 3.7V @ 4000mAh. If you carefully look at the battery blue packaging you'll note 2 thin wire strips running up… Read more
the side. And to be fair the specification on the side does say that! To add even further confusion I think there's a current cut out added to the end of the batteries as a disc. In conclusion if you just put in 2 separate batteries then they will be in series and produce 7.4 V instead if 3.7V. In words of the proverbial bard, ..you'll blow the crap out of it! QED PS a battery indicator is required. The torch suddenly stops working without warning when low in voltage Also a dim string would be good, far too bright
Not a dependable torch – Torch battery only lasts a short time despite continual recharging. For this reason alone cannot recommend this product. A similar problem appears to have occurred with other purchasers of this item. Aldi needs to test these types of products more thoroughly. Show details
Fake power and lumens. less than 10W and max. 1000 lumen – According to specs this shoud have 20W and 1500 lumen +-10%. If you take a look at https://cree-led.com/media/documents/ds-XHP50.pdf All figures are below 1300 lumen. Reference condition is given at 6V 1.4A = 8.4W On my version of lamp: With full battery open voltage being 4.1V it draws 2.6A (measured with fluke 179 on 10A range). In my case… Read more
total power drawn (includeing LED driver circuit) is 4.1 * 2.6A = 10.66W.
According to Lightway user manual LED is supposed to be 100lumen / wat max. So according to user manual data (assuming LED driver 100% efficiency) could be max. 1066 lumen!
Battery : They claim it is 2x 18650 4000mAh battery. It looks like it is a 2S battery, but at the end of chage cycle it has an open voltage 4.1V.
On battery itself it is written 2P1S 2000mAh and 18650x2 4000mAh 14.8Wh. So you can only use a dedicated battery pack. If user inserts 2 18650 cells in series it will probably cause some damage. This is not mentioned in my version of user manual. It jus says it is 2x 18650 4000mAh battery.
To test the battery i connected an USB mAh meter on (powerbank function) USB socket. Because there is a boost converter between battery and USB pot, my mAh measurement don't correspond to battery mAh. I will compare Wh, and allow 20-30% difference for DC / DC conversion and USB cable voltage loss.
My device was drawing 0.5 - 0.7A @ 4.8V. At torch USB connector at no load condition I measured 5.2V. Let's assume 5.2V * measured mAh for power.
Powerbank stopped working after delivering 1420mAh @ (assumed) 5.2V = 7.3Wh. It looks like battery capacity is not 4Ah, or power bank is approx. 50% efficient.
Battery open cell voltage was 3.3V and torch was still working, consuming 0.5A 3.3 *0.5 = 1,65W. This means, that built in LED driver is most likely less efficient linear type. And torch provides much less light output when battery is not fully charged.
I left it on and it turned off after a minute or so. This implies, that a low voltage battery protection is present in both modes of operation.
Final verdict : Provides 50% or less of stated lumens and 50% of stated battery capacity. I will request 75% refund, and report item to local trade supervision agency.
Lightway USB rechargeable torch – Found this torch on it's own amongst other things in Aldi. Had it about 3 months, charged twice, great light. That impressed, came on line to try to find another. I think they have been recalled, dont know why yet. Show details
Cheap torch. Useless lightway rubbish – Don't buy this torch. It works once or twice then won't recharge. Absolutely useless. Not ebmven one star. I will never buy another torch from Aldi, ever. Take the torch and shove it. Show details

Know better, choose better.
Great value compared with alternatives. Very bright but limited run time – I had same issue as David R. I Replaced the batteries thinking that better quality Japanese 18650s might provide longer runtime and faster charging. Popped in new batteries- torch super bright - ran for about 30 seconds Then literally blew the LED. The explanation (with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight) is that the original battery is not two 18650… Read more
cells. It is one actual cell packaged on top of a dummy cell. So...... what we did by putting two cells in there David was pump 7.4v into a 3.7 v led. Result smoke.....or worse. I still don’t understand why they chose to do it this way. I guess someone thought longer was better.
Perfect rechargable spotlight – Best aspect if being able to focus or broaden beam, and secondly rechargable. I added some reflective tape (available from bunnings) to the handle as the Matt Black finish makes it hard to see in the dark when you are most likely to be using it and put it down. I use it for Koala Rescue. Downsides: no battery level charge indicator, takes a… Read more
while to recharge. Upsides: very bright, rechargable, cost effective. Hot tip: The electrical connections are hidden behind a screw collar near the on / off button.
Very bright, just don't change the batteries – This torch comes with rechargeable 18650 3.7v 2000mAh batteries. I wanted to get a couple more so I bought some 3.7v 18650 2200mAh batteries from Aldi. When I first changed them, the torch started smoking, This makes no sense to me, virtually same batteries, just with a bit more power storage. The replacements should have worked. Now looking… Read more
for a torch that takes the new batteries.
Torch still works, no idea of any damage yet with batteries.
My impressed turned to distressed with the Lightway 1500 Torch – Only used the torch 7 times and then it stopped working? Checked everything . Surely the battery lasts longer than that. Do I get a new torch or a new battery? Do I return the torch to the store I bought it from? Show details
Torch works great but powerbank feature failed – I bought this torch mainly for its ability to be recharged without removing the battery and it does that with a USB cable The charging port and a USB out port to use for charging as a powerbank are able to be covered by a alloy cover that screws up or down to keep them protected from the elements The light has two levels of brightness plus a sos… Read more
feature and has the ability to zoom the beam for greater distance This torch is well made and feels comfortable to use with good light output For some reason the USB out port has failed on mine but that might have been from using a faulty charging cable to charge my phone Apart from that I would have to say this is a great product for a good price
Aldi led 1500lm torch – We'll finished black aluminium case. Easy to charge via USB, also can be used as a power bank to charge other devices. With a full charge this very bright, lights up the whole backyard (feels like it would light up the entire block). Adjust from wide beam to narrow beam. Would be best Aldi toy I have purchased for some time. Show details
for $30 aud its a Great torch, if a bit big – Picked this up from Aldi - XHP50 20W Cree LED torch featuring a power bank for convenient power to charge your device on the go. 1st charge took at least 6 hours, the estimated time is between 4 and 5 hours. use time is about 1.5hrs on full and 3hrs on half. Its quite large at 27 to 29.4 cm (zoom) and weighs in at around 560g This light has a… Read more · 2
large broad, flood beam that you can zoom down to a largish narrower beam. It lights up my entire back yard and all the trees in the distance. It is quite bright, Am looking forward to visiting the family who overlook into the bush and my partners who's family are on a property so will really be able to test the distance, although so far seems very good.
It only has 2 brightness levels, full and half, it would be better if it also had a moonlight and low levels. The other thing is that it doesn't have a strobe, only has sos function. The 3 light functions go from high, med, sos and then off, it is easy to click through though. The on/off button doesn't glow or have any light to make it easy to see. the charge and usb function sits under a collar that twists up or down to show or hide the port. The zoom function is nice and smooth and wow what a difference between the in and out.
It comes with an orangey coloured light diffuser and a strong webbing type strap which has a large ring that the torch slides into.
- Slides to enable spotlight focusing - 2 light functions: half power at 750 lumen or full power at 1500 lumen - Rechargeable 3.7V 4000mAh lithium-ion battery - Convenient power bank function - Light diffuser with SOS function included.
Would i buy it again... Well, as its $30, yes.. but there are other torches with better and smaller size, features and convenience, but they are a lot more in cost.
