Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition

Changed and it sucks now. Amazon didn't send a receipt so I can't lodge anything or return it, plus they are deleting negative reviews. Should be illegal Show details
Worked well the first 3 months we had it but then it began to get very slow. I’ve had it for about 18 months now and it’s so slow it takes about 5 minutes to turn on, 10 to turn off. Once it’s on and working it’s not as slow to respond to the remote but trying to search for shows there’s usually a 30s delay which can get quite frustrating. It’s… Read more
also very americanised (duh) but doesn’t connect with Australian entertainment subscriptions. I wouldn’t recommend getting one
2 tracks playing at once on fire stick – In sbs on demand and nba league pass I get 2 sound tracks playing at once. This makes using these apps on fire stick impossible. I would expect more from Amazon. Show details
AMAZON DO NOT SUPPORT THIS UNLESS YOU BUY IT FROM THEM – I bought a Firestick from Officeworks, tried to activate it and it wont go past "searching for updates" . After 5 minutes or so it comes up with a message to try a reset or contact Amazon for support. I am a 10 year Amazon prime customer so I contacted Amazon and they basically told me to get nicked, would not even offer any solution other than take it back to where you got it Show details
Sucks – It ruined my tv. Do not buy. Never ever again.
Connects to everything but Amazon prime – Set it up as per the instructions, connects to netfix and all other apps but WILL NOT connect to amazon prime. Got in touch with Amazon Prime and they just put me on hold forever, obviously the problem to big for them to understand. dont waste you money if you want to watch Amazon prime, it simply wont connect. Great better than chrome cast – This was great value at big w and has a remote and does not heat up like chrome cast does Show details
frustrating – Worst thing about this is the sleep mode that you can't turn off, pause it and within a few minutes it goes to sleep, you have to go home then scroll through to the app you where on then re-find the program you where watching and the only button is "watch again" so you have to go to episodes and scroll though them to find where you where, until next time you want the toilet or get something to eat so you can go through the whole procedure again
Ok – Works OK, makes apps a bit slower than directly through smart tv Show details
Cheap, dirty content – When I first purchased, it was fine with no inappropriate content on the screen. Now I have tried every setting and contacted amazon few times and explained my deep concerns in detail but no use. They are now pushing, filthy, dirty adult content as whats on ot whats next. Although I have parental control on and my 3 year old can't play anything but you guys are still creating curiosity for younger kids for no reason. Show details
Don’t buy if you have small children – Bought a fire stick after my TV would no longer connect to the internet, thinking it would be the cheaper option to make my TV smart again. My 3 year old managed to somehow bypass the parental control and spend roughly $80 on amazon coins, which as far as I can tell are useless. He did not know the pass code, I barely know the pass code as it has… Read more
to be 5 digits rather than 4. It’s only needed for purchases which we don’t do, so it’s never used. I haven’t been able to figure out how he managed it, I can’t recreate what he did, but I know I’m out money and have these useless coins.
Another downside is that it prime video appears to filled with “user created” content, which is garbage at best, and now is all that seems to be recommended after the child found it. Can’t figure out how to get rid of it.
There are constantly arguments over recommended apps and games which we can’t disable so the child is constantly finding content we don’t want him to have.
Definitely wouldn’t recommend to anyone
I wish I had never bought this product – Amazon have blocked me from using my usb tv dongle from watching Netflix. I bought the firestick in good faith. Can I get a full refund from JB Hi Fi
Poor connectivity 4k version – 4k version not basic! I was under the impression Fire tv was competing against Google tv. With no ability to cast from a device and only the ability to mirror a device if you go through settings each time you want to use it and have no sound either this is not really anywhere near up to Google's standard. Anyone want to buy a fire tv stick? Show details

Ended up returning it! – We are in Australia and wanted to be able to use this with hotspotting phone data (not wifi) for a house in the country. Unfortunately, we couldn't even get far enough to test that out; Had to make an Amazon account, fill in all billing and address details only to constantly get a 'payment failure' message, even when trying to download free apps.… Read more
Watched several help videos on Youtube and tried to rectify the problem on the Amazon website more than once, before giving up and returning it.
Way too hard, not user friendly and good luck trying to delete an Amazon account.
Would NOT recommend! Ended up buying the Lightning Digital AV Adapter from Apple (for iphone) - $75, paired with HDMI to HDMI cable - just plug in and go, easy!
Disappointed – It seems Australians are denied full functionality, including even the basic search icon. There is no app store, as such, and the apps available are extremely limited. Would NOT recommend. Show details
Not as good as expected – Reasearched the various options including google chromecast, Roku etc but decided to go with Amazon. the product works but its very glitchy. there is a delayed response from pushing a button to things moving on screen. it has all the usual apps (Netflix etc) but the whole experience is like waiting for buffering...... painful. I wouldnt recommend this product Show details
Good Enough – After a 20 minute setup where it downloads your account details and updates your ready to go. The thing is there is a 4K version but they don't sell it in Australia .It will however play most content on Amazon Prime in HD even on an older set with a 1.4 HDMI connection . I don't use the voice control it's just I prefer to use the buttons. The… Read more
other thing to note is you have to download the apps to use them . It does show on the app page that they are there but when you click on them it will ask you to download that app.
Netflix played without a hitch excpt the 4K content was in HD . I recommend this stick over the 4K Roku stick that I also own.
The reason is, the Roku locks you out of Amazon Prime and to play 4K you need a2.2HDMI connection on your set. Older 4K sets have 1.4 HDMI which needs an adapter to 2.2 in order to play Roku 4K files.
Fire TV Stick saves my dog tripping over a cable. :-) – My Panasonic TV isn't that old [has Netflix button] but couldn't add Disney+ app onto it. [Was told to buy a new Apple or Android TV!!] Got Disney+ running on laptop hooked to TV with long HDMI Cable... oops trip hazard, so decided to get a Fire TV Stick from Amazon to save yelling at the dog :-). Easy install, very smart software, and can now… Read more
get streaming services that I want with 1 remote. Netflix, Prime & Disney. Suits me and has an App store if I want more. So, cheap solution until I need new TV.
Perfect to turn dumb TV smart! – Adds seamless smart functions to any Dumb TV with HDMI. Youtube. Netflix. Stan and amazons own prime work flawlessly.. much better than many built in smart functions on cheaper or older TVs . Much better than fetch too.. love it
