I installed the Powerpal Energy Monitor to track real-time electricity usage (initially with Amber). The hardware is solid, setup was quick, and… Read more

support responds fast.

What’s good Helpful real-time usage data Easy install and pairing Responsive support

Main issue (boutique tariffs) I’m now with Glowbird (FOUR4FREE), which includes a $0.00/kWh four-hour free period. The Powerpal app won’t save a zero-cost rate (the Save button only works with a non-zero value), and it can’t handle custom time blocks outside standard network TOU schedules. That makes cost tracking inaccurate on plans like FOUR4FREE.

Support confirmed they’re working on “boutique” tariff support, but there’s no timeframe and no workaround. Powerpal seems best suited to Amber’s wholesale-style pricing, where real-time data aligns well. But for retailer-specific tariffs with free periods or unusual time blocks, the app’s tariff flexibility is the weak point.

Battery note The unit is sealed (no user-replaceable batteries). Powerpal says the batteries are designed for ~10 years and includes a 5-year replacement guarantee, after which it’s essentially end-of-life/e-waste.

Overall Great device for real-time usage visibility, but the app needs better tariff support—especially for free periods and non-standard retailer plans.

The Birde is Perfect for Little Readers! We recently got the Birde for our two kids (ages 5 and 6), and I couldn't be happier with it! The… Read more

read-along books are absolutely fantastic! This is hands-down the standout feature for us. My kids love following along with the stories, complete with music and multiple character voices that really bring the books to life. As a parent, I love that it's helping them develop a genuine love for reading while they're still learning. There's something so special about watching them engage with physical books while the Birde guides them through the story - it feels far more educational and meaningful than just passive listening.

The tap-and-play seeds are brilliant - my kids find them so intuitive, and they're impressively durable. We've had our fair share of drops and tumbles, and everything still works perfectly!

The size and design are spot-on for little hands - it's lightweight and easy for young children to hold without worrying about them dropping it. You can tell it was made with kids in mind.

If you're looking for a device that encourages reading, sparks imagination, and is built to withstand the chaos of childhood - the Birde is it. We absolutely love ours!

This becomes an issue when you wish to install the unit into your car with a pass through plug in the dash. This is a standard install these days. Firstly it will need the extension cable - can be purchased from Oricom. However Oricom do not have a solution for the pass through plug for the car dash. It is possible to find aftermarket RJ45 plugs with no issues - I could not find an RJ12 to fit the dash. Why not standardise and make the customer experience easy.

tracking. It provides incredible peace of mind knowing exactly where he is, whether he’s at school or playing at a friend's house. The parental controls are also excellent; they are intuitive and give me full authority over who can contact him, ensuring he stays safe while using it. Beyond the safety features, the watch is very well-designed. My son finds it extremely comfortable to wear all day, and he loves the stylish look—he actually enjoys keeping it on! If you’re looking for a reliable way to stay connected with your child without the distractions of a full smartphone, I can’t recommend this enough.

spot. Launched Sept 2021, it’s still officially supported and holds up for daily use in 2026.

*What you get*

*1. Design & Display* - 6.1" Super Retina XDR OLED, 1170x2532, 460ppi, HDR10, Dolby Vision - 800 nits typical, 1200 nits peak – “easy to view outdoors” with excellent color accuracy - Ceramic Shield front, aluminum frame, IP68 water resistance to 6m - 20% smaller notch than iPhone 12, but still no Always-On and *60Hz only* - 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.7mm, 174g 2133cfeb093a

*2. Performance: A15 Bionic* 5nm A15 chip: 6-core CPU + 4-core GPU, 4GB RAM. Still “fast performance” with 100% app scores in tests. Handles iOS 18 fine in 2026, and Apple promises 5+ years of updates. 2133f4fecfeb

*3. Cameras – The big upgrade* Dual 12MP system: - *Main*: f/1.6, 1.7µm pixels, sensor-shift OIS borrowed from iPhone 12 Pro Max. Captures 47% more light than iPhone 12 - *Ultrawide*: f/2.4, 120°, no autofocus - *Selfie*: 12MP f/2.2 with SL 3D b1932133

Results: “Very good” camera performance, among top performers for stills with excellent color, exposure, sharpness. New *Cinematic mode* adds pro-looking rack focus in 1080p@30fps. *Photographic Styles* let you set tone/warmth presets. 3517cfebdeb0

Weakness: No telephoto or macro. Ultrawide shots can be “darker than iPhone 12” despite better exposure. deb0

*4. Battery Life – Biggest win* 3240mAh battery. Apple claimed +2h video vs iPhone 12. Real tests: ∼40 hours battery life, “over 10 hours” real-world use, ∼2h better than iPhone 12. Endurance rating 89h. 21333517b193093a

Charging: 20W wired, 50% in 30 min. 15W MagSafe, 7.5W Qi. *No charger in box*. 2133cfeb

*5. Other* 5G, Wi-Fi 6, UWB, Face ID, Dual SIM/eSIM. Storage doubled vs iPhone 12: 128GB base for same $799 launch price. 2133cfeb

*Pros* - Much improved battery life vs iPhone 12 - Brighter, color-accurate OLED display - Excellent main camera with sensor-shift OIS and Cinematic mode - A15 Bionic still fast in 2026 - Double the base storage for same price - IP68, Ceramic Shield build cfebf4fe2133

*Cons* - *60Hz display* feels dated vs 120Hz Pro models and Android rivals - No telephoto, no autofocus/macro on ultrawide - No charger or EarPods in box - Slightly heavier/thicker than iPhone 12; cases don’t fit - Camera bump causes wobble on desks 2133b193cfeb29e7

*Specs at a glance* iPhone 13 Display 6.1" OLED, 1170x2532, 60Hz, 1200 nits peak Chip A15 Bionic, 4GB RAM Storage 128/256/512GB NVMe Cameras 12MP main + 12MP ultrawide, 12MP selfie Battery 3240mAh, ~40h life, 20W charging Price 2026 ~$325 refurbished, $799 launch *Verdict in 2026* The iPhone 13 “remains capable and reliable” for everyday use. You get flagship build, great battery, and a camera that still shoots excellent photos/video. b193

*Buy it if*: You want an iPhone that will last 3+ more years, value battery life, and don’t care about 120Hz or Pro cameras. Refurbished units at ∼$325 are “reliability you can count on at a price that makes sense”. b193

*Skip it if*: You need 120Hz ProMotion, telephoto zoom, or USB-C. Look at iPhone 15 instead.

Want me to compare iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14 vs iPhone 15 so you see what you’d gain by spending more?

My opinion based on only a few weeks of use Pros The Laptop is nice to use with a good keyboard with several one touch buttons for handy… Read more

regular use functions.

The display whilst not being the high end version has decent brightness , can be used in sunlight and performs well inside games.

The Performance is good for me with the only issues being some of the included bloatware but that's was easily addressed.

When under a full load it was not loud fans wise or never got as hot as my previous machine. The USB C ports run Video no problems.

Whilst the inbuilt speakers are not great they are a lot better than most unbranded sound systems. For a laptop in this price range they were probably the best I came across. Decent Battery performance.

Cons

Although it has 4 USB ports the mix being 2 USB type A and 2 USB Type C I do wish it had one more type A port as by the time a mouse and keyboard are connected you only have Type C ports available.

However More an Issue with me as I didn't think the mix would cause a problem. It does if you want to connect a USB memory stick with a Type A connector. Not a deal breaker but long term it will need a work around like a hub or dual wireless setup for the keyboard and/or mouse. Again not a big deal as you can identify this at the time of purchase.

I usually use a Laptop connected to external power and there is no problem with this one other than the connector. That being it's location on the side. It would be better with a rear connector IMHO but the power supply does have a Right Angled plug. Only really an issue if you move it around whilst connected.

For me it could do with more storage as I use plenty of mods for the games I play. Again not a big deal as it has an additional internal connector for another SSD. Only one and not for a traditional HDD sized unit but it is a modern machine so an NVME unit is fine.

Overall

After having had a few laptops now for the money this one is one of the best. Whilst it isn't a lightweight the 90WH battery and robust feel and construction leaves me confident in it's long term future. I don't think you could go wrong for the money with it's Gaming Video Performance and low power usage when not running flat out. It does behave strangely on occasion but this was always due to Windows 11. One day I figure that out.

Audio Technica ATH-M50x are made with poor materials and don’t last!!! – We bought these Audio Technica headphones from Headphonic (www.headphones.com.au) in late 2021, and within a little over two years of light use, the… Read more

padding on the ear cups began to noticeably deteriorate (see first two pics). We weren’t trying to skimp of cheap headphones so we opted for this well reviewed Audio Technica model. Whilst they do sound good and wear comfortably for moderate periods of time, they have not lasted well and seem to be made, in part, from substandard materials. The rest of the headphones look like brand new which confirms how lightly they’ve been used (see last pic).

We’ve kept these phones in a well protected space their entire lifespan and have used them lightly and regularly (estimate average twice/week for less than half an hour each time). They have never been used outdoors or had any exposure to sun or heat, but the quality of the materials is poor and not long lasting.

Did contact the shop (Headphonic www.headphones.com.au) we bought them from about their deterioration, but have had no response.

We suspect they receive so many good reviews here because most of the reviews are for much newer sets, but we’re very unimpressed with Audio Technica’s quality and don’t recommend them unless you’re fine with paying $200 for headphones that might not last much more than 1-2 years with more typical usage. How can these relatively expensive headphones fit the Consumer Law requirements of fit for purpose and lasting anywhere near as much as would be expected for such an item?
