Lucky to outlast warranty – Home button stopped working rendering device useless just out of warranty. Got no useful help from amazon, not interested, and more importantly they have no resources to repair them. I find that incredible. refuse to turn or block you from going back over something previously read. Amazon kindle is also the only device that will not allow you to download books from your local library so you cannot use the device unless you purchase books from them which will only get more expensive. Makes sense to buy an electronic reading device but not kindle. Also, when it dies, as it will, what happens to your stock of books is called buy another one. Shocking Easier than carrying books around No durability, better to buy a different brand or just stay with paperbacks which will be cheaper in the long run

Dissappointed – Have owned Kindle for four years, all of a sudden it has started to freeze up & also reboot itself, besides turning itself on at all hours & running the battery down.Rang Amazon America twice, same advice, turn it off,let it reset itself, also did a factory reset,to no avail. No offer from them to repair it,just buy a second hand one from them for $70 bucks. Was easy to read & convenient. Not reliable, no backup service.

Spot on, though in my experience very lucky to get four years out of it. Piece of poorly engineered junk.

My travel companion – Yes, i certainly agree this is much better than ipad but let me qualify: only for reading. I still have my ipad which i use to control my computer at home remotely. I like the fact that it is small and easy to hold. I can maneuver and change pages while standing in public transport. Easy to keep bookmarks, make notes are mandatory for an e-reader. small easy to use

Kindle Wifi 4th Gen - love it – I've had this reader now for nearly a year. It's easy to use, has great battery life and best of all I can use it one handed if I decide to. The kindles are simple to use, easy to set up, made even better if you use a third party app (calibre) to add books not purchased from the kindle store. I also purchased the official Kindle cover so it is kept safe and secure Easy to use, can use one handed, great battery life No additional storage options

Easy on the eyes and lightweight – I already have a Sony Touch which I love, but I wanted the better buying opportunity from Amazon that you get for the Kindle, although I have since found out, the Amazon Australia site is nowhere near as good as the American one. ease of the Sony. It has frozen twice on me, where I had to reset the ereader. I was very disappointed with it, since it seems to be the 'major' ereader out there - I gather now from using both, that its only the Amazon site that is the benefit here. Also, the reader I have only has the percentage of book read, not the actual page number, which I find disconcerting. The Amazon site to buy the books Not using the standard epub format, and annoying to find my way around on it.

Excellent – I recently received the wireless Kindle 3 6" display (graphite) for a gift and it's one of the best gifts an avid reader can ask for. I use the Kindle on a daily basis as it is thin and light and can easily fit in my handbag. Downloading books via Amazon is instant through wi-fi connection and if you accidentally download a book, you can… Read more

instantly revert your order.

The screen is matt and easy to read as it doesn't create a shine. For reading in bed at night, you have a small lamp that you can pull out that lights the screen and doesn't create a glare or disturb your partner beside you. You can vary the font in style and size and you can change the pages from the left or the right side of the Kindle depending on whether you are left or right handed.

The Kindle is well suited for novels and heavily text based books especially for the 6" display and its black and white interface. If you wanted to download highly graphical and visual books then I suggest you look at another tool.

You can access the Amazon bookstore and use the catalogue to search and select for books. The benefit of the Kindle is that you can 'try before you buy' by downloading a sample to read first. If you like what you read, with a click of a button, you will see the full book listed on your Kindle ready to read.

In my experience, for the books I read, I have found most books already available and ready to download. There are more books added everyday. If you like to read magazines, you can download and subscribe to these through the Kindle however, at this stage, there are no Australian magazines.

You can access other internet sites via the 'Experimental' link in the main menu and although it's not like surfing with a PC with graphical and colour interface, it's another option of accessing the internet. However, the small keyboard is a bit fiddly and the mouse is a keypad with arrow buttons so it's not as quick or intuitive so it takes a bit of practice.

Amazon also sells various accessories like Kindle covers in various colours to protect your e-reader and I would strongly recommend that you buy one with your Kindle.

If you are a keen reader who likes to read books once without wanting to spend up to $35 for a hard cover book, and then I would strongly recommend a Kindle. Practical, easy to hold, read and use; customisable font style and size; matt screen

What a fantastic invention! – When my sister-in-law showed us her Kindle a few weekends ago we immediately ordered one. It was delivered the next Thursday and worked right out of the box. Dead easy to get it running on my wi-fi network and we downloaded some books plus audible books for my vision-impaired wife. It was so good I've had to buy another one for me because I… Read more

couldn't get my wife to let me have my turn with the Kindle! BK (before Kindle) I would be lucky to pick up a book once in six months. Now I read about half an hour every evening and I'm loving it.

The screen is not like a back-lit i-pad or computer screen, it uses e-ink which is black on a very relaxing light grey background so no eyestrain. You can read it in full daylight unlike a led screen. You can vary the size of the font, and it even has software that effectively reads the book to you with an electronic synthesised voice if you wish. Power consumption is tiny, it can run about 30 hours on one charge if wi-fi is turned off and you don't use the voice. A book takes less than a minute to download and the really low cost is automatically debited to my Visa. Audible books can take up to an hour because of their large file sizes.

We bought the cover with the little led light and I love reading in bed without needing the bedside lamp on. The Kindle, cover and delivery were just over $200, and with the savings in prices on books (as cheap as 99c!) this little device will pay itself off in a very short time, plus I'll be more relaxed and better informed.

The first book I read on it was comedian Anh Do's autobiography which got me into trouble with my wife because I woke her up when I couldn't stop laughing! This device confirms why traditional bookshops are finding it tough these days. Brilliant device, lightweight, convenient size, easy to read., can't recommend too highly.

Nothing comes close to Kindle! – My husband and I both bought a Kindle in 2010. Shipping from Amazon was fast and reliable. When our packages arrived, I was surprised that they had made a simple cardboard box look so exciting, with 'once upon a time..' written on the side of the box. The e-ink display is fantastic and can be easily read in bright sunlight, a back-lit… Read more

display would cause my eyes to get tired after a while. We took them on an overseas holiday so we could read by the pool- nothing excites more than being able to browse the Kindle store & buy a book wirelessly with the free Wi-Fi! The battery lasts forever [make sure the Wi-Fi is turned off when you aren't using it]

The range of books on the Kindle store is growing everyday, and are so much cheaper than real books. You can 'share' books with other Kindle users that are linked to the same credit card. [my husband and I share the same account, so we have an extensive list of books to share] You can download free 'samples' of books you are interested in buying with the option of buying at the end of the sample, or you can just delete it.

I also love how there are 'next page' buttons on each side of the device- this is great for lying in bed, you can lay on both sides and still 'turn the page'

You can highlight quotes or favourite parts of your book and review them later.

The dictionary is also fantastic [great for when you are reading classics!] Just move your cursor to just before the word and the meaning shows at the bottom of the page.

Kindle is easily the most under-rated device we have ever owned. Don't get sucked into buying anything else! Cheap books, easy to use, free wifi, battery lasts forever

Top read and easy to use – We have had a Kindle each for a couple of years now and love them. We travel a lot so to take the Kindle instead of lugging books is great. Properly protected, screen still broke – I have a really nice protector for my kindle. And I kept it in a padded bag. The screen Still broke. Seems eInk is even more fragile than an LCD. Rather than replace or upgrade their expensive breakable schlock they offered to sell me a new one - at full price. Do not buy amazon kindles - they are breakable, and they have no repair/upgrade option. Lousy after sales support.

Forget Books Go Kindle – I thought I would not like a Kindle, as a tablet computer can do everything a Kindle can do and more, except a Kindle's battery lasts a lot longer between recharges and it can be read in sunlight, it is far easier on the eyes and is much smaller and lighter. no wireless service where we live so the 3G model would have been a waste of money. The Kindle is much easier to read than a book, as you don't have the weight of all the pages you are not currently reading to contend with, and the ability to store over a thousand books is great. There are many free titles available and current books cost much less than a hard copy. Small, Light and User Friendly

jossling me around. It's lightweight so its always in my handbag & I'll often pull it out while waiting in queue or grabbing a bite to eat.

The Amazon catalogue is vast, however at times can be disappointing, some authors don't publish in an ebook format, or they do, and it's just not available in Australia yet. Another peeve, is that sometimes the first book in a series is available but subsequent sequels are not. Or the latest book is available but not the back catalogue.

I love the pre-order function where I can buy a book now, if the price reduces before the release the price is adjusted accordingly and on the day of release it automatically delivers to my kindle. I personally leave the Wifi off except when downloading (to preserve battery life) I just set a reminder in my calendar to turn it on that day if a book gets released.

The ability to arrange your books into categories is fantastic, I have mine sorted by author & type, ie. autobiographies, series etc.

I ordered my kindle at 9pm AEST on a Friday and it was delivered by courier on Tuesday morning!

Battery life is long lasting (around a month), can recharge by USB or I can also use my Samsung Galaxy Charger, meaning it can charge at the plug or in the car. Quick Delivery, E-Ink technology, adjustable font size, vast variety of books, preorder functionality, instant delivery, battery life, titles not being available in Australia, no Australian Magazines

Deteriorating standards – As an avid reader I think wireless reading devices are convenient and fabulous (especially for travelling) but they are lowering the standard of fictional literature with bad grammar and poor or corny storylines.
