Upset about refund policy
I did the DNA test and then 1 year of membership. At that point I spent $424 and already felt bad about spending so much. Not a great value in my opinion.
THEN I accidentally let it auto-renew for 6 months of "all access" (the most expensive). I called them 3 weeks after my $211 PREPAID 6 months and explained my situation and asked for a refund. Nope. I asked for at least prorated refund (like 3 weeks out of 6 months). Or downgrade my prepaid amount to the $99 membership and refund the difference? Nothing, no help, did not care. The ag...
Serious Problems. Are they closing down?
My DNA says I am half Irish and part of me is also German BUT when I go to the WORLD MAP of DNA on Ancestry there are no flags in Ireland or Germany. So why can't I see who I might be related to in Ireland or Germany. I phoned Ancestry. Com but their response was hopeless. Very sad. Do we have to pay more to see more????
I called them again today 16 April 2021 hoping to fine someone who could give me some advice but ended up in at a Philippine call centre. The guy did his best but I still think they do not understand some simple questions. Not good. I want to upgrade my membership but I think it will be a waste of money.
Your dog could probably tell you more about your ancestry than Ancestry.com
Purchased 3 test kits. Sent 2 of them for analysis. One came back while the second is still being completed. Problem is, the one test result that came back was less than what I already knew about my family member. This company's tests are very shallow and unremarkable in its finding.
Do **not** waste your money. Some Google searches (I wish I did before buying) are showing their competitors are better.
stole mymoney for membership i cancelled
i cancelled renewal and they still charged, beware of these scammers. i was stupid to trust them with my card details dont make the same mistake i did its not worth it
Don't waist your money
I've was silly enough to build a family tree, before DNA test was "analized". The area that my ancestors were from, was a crossroads for trade for centuries, as well as subject of invasions and colonisations, for centuries. I was surprised to learn that my test results were exact replica of family tree I've built. So needles to say I was a bit sceptical about results. For one to happen to be 100% of one ethnicity, it's a bit unbelievable to me. I've called Ancestry customer service, only to speak with a person who couldn't understand the langua...ge, (I wonder now if it was done on purpose, to stop people from digging deeper). So, I've decided to send email, hopping to clarify results, as I honestly thought the test results were en error. Long story short, they couldn't prove that that they have analysed DNA sample, and gave me a generic answer as to why DNA results are identical to family tree I've built. Mind you, my family knowledge is on the poor side. I think it was a bad idea to build a family tree, I should of just put initials and no further info about my family until test results are available. I truly believe that they have seen I've built a family tree, so they thought that they don't have to waist their time to analyse test. But they have done one critical error, they have matched me with 6-8 cousin, but that said cousin and me have no shared ethnicity!??! Which further cemented my option that they have not analized the test. It is not possible to share same DNA and not to have some percentage of same ethnicity. If you are about to do Ancestry DNA test, my advise is don't give them any information until test is analized, that way you can make sure that information that they supplied you with, is correct.
DONT DO IT
Appalling company with no integrity. Save your money. They should be run out of business. Would like to know what country they are located in but be sure it is one that is dubious like the company
I have tried to cancel this membership 6 times now. It is nigh impossible to do.
Very unhappy with this company. Now I have to cancel my credit card with my bank as I can NO longer afford it! How can they manage to withdraw money from an expired card? Very stressful to me personally and I can't find any customer support phone number.
DON'T DO IT!
I thought I might purchase this as a birthday gift for my son. On the website the price was $129 but after putting in all my details and getting to the point of purchase I was being charged $149 (plus shipping of $29.99) so I abandoned the purchase at this point. I did not make the final click to process the order. I called the 1800 number and got the call centre in the Philippines where they advised the additional $20 was for a subscription! The worst part is that this is now sitting in my credit card transaction list as PENDING and I am horri...fied. I did not finalise the purchase and abandoned the page. The call centre are unable to assist and there is no contact number in my own country (Australia) to pursue the matter further. To add insult to injury the call centre girl then proceeded to offer me a special St Patrick's Day deal of Ancestry DNA kit for $89, she wanted to put it through on my credit card there and then. NOT LIKELY! I believe Ancestry DNA are underhanded in their dealings, the word SCAM comes to mind.

Be careful with the 14 day free trial
Signed up yesterday for a free 14 day trial, decided it wasn’t something I would get much use out of, went to cancel today and boy was it a drama, I think it’s deliberately setup to catch people who leave cancellation to last day and then their credit cards get charged.
After searching I found a number to call, cause I couldn’t cancel via their webpage.
Cancelled 1 hour after creating the free trial
Curiosity got the better of me one night so I signed upto the 14 day free trial. I used it for the best part of an hour on the 8/02 and cancelled it after an hour. Today its the 27/2 and they have just taken $49.99 for something I won't ever use. I will be calling them at 9am because apparently they will open them. Every click is money with them. Scam I feel
Ughhh but now I'm smug
I had to edit my review as something rather extraordinary did happen and I owe them for that. They've also let me build a tree for free which I share around.
I still think they're a bit dodgy with tactics but isn't that how you make money. I'm 60 and have never met my father. Luckily there was one cousin only who had their DNA in. I am now in contact with my 82 year old father. I would consider myself very lucky.
I changed the following initial review as I had to eat some of the words.
This organisation are supreme carrot danglers.
Still no results, 3 months after sending kit back
The kit arrived as promised, I followed the instructions and sent it back in early December.
It is now the end of Feb and still no results, status on their webpage says they received my kit on the 21st of January.
Worst customer service.
Rated a two on mixed results
My wife and I ordered kits on 2 December 2020. They arrived and we provided the DNA samples and posted them back post haste, in the same return postage box and envelope. On 23 December we were advised they had been received and may take up to 8 weeks for processing. My wife received hers after a 4.5 week period and was very impressed with the results as they strongly reflected our own extensive research. I have waited 8 weeks since 23 December and having received nothing, rang them on 1800 251 838 and an operator picked up the phone immediately.... After a couple of minutes checking he told me that my sample was contaminated and that they would send me a new kit. Why couldn't they tell me that at the same time my wife received her results? Therefore I have given them a 'two' on the basis of my wife's results. Had they been proactive in telling me mine was contaminated, sent a replacement kit and processed it ASAP, they could have had a 'five'. These people need to lift their game.

DNA ANCESTRY KIT DEBACLE
I purchased a DNA Kit, sent it back, I have been told it will take 30 days or more to even merely acknowledge that it has been received or not. Then 8 weeks or more for results. It cost a lot of money and customers should, at the very least, have confirmation of the kit being received by Ancestry within days of receiving it. Not good enough ANCESTRY.

Ripped off never received DNA kit
Paid for a DNA kit, sent it away.... that was 6 months ago now. After I patiently waited 2 months (max timeframe given) I contacted ancestry to see if my results were ready. They said the kit was contaminated and had to be redone. They sent another and we sent it straight off. Never heard a peep. It’s been 6 months now, and all I get are excuses, no results! Very poor company, should be investigated!
Paid a squillion for a “ world heritage” membership. When it expired- I couldn’t access the records that I had already paid for.
Went back on it a while later with a plan that says it gives you access to essential British records.
Good luck with that one. Most of the records are locked out.
Worse service ever.
Didn't get my DNA result even after two months. When asked about the results then they contacted me that we are following it. After few weeks they told me that sample that's been contaminated. I don't know for how long I have wait more.
The reviewer stated that an incentive was offered for this review
Signed up for a free trail it said money would be temporarily deducted from my acct then I would see the money back, this did not happen I was charged $30 for nothing I cancelled the same day as it had absolutely nothing about my family waste of time and scammed me of money.
Had to temporarily suspend our card.
I decided that I could do without Ancestry because, although some things were very good, it is expensive. So, went through the processes, and as I access both the UK and Australian sites, doing it on one first, and when the action didn't complete after several minutes, did it on the other. Same thing. I also checked their ...com page, but there was no 'account' for me on that one. Getting to the option to email was baffling, and obfuscation was evident, but was eventually successful. Not expecting for much response there., and reading the revie...ws here, I have to agree that their credibility is seriously lacking. I had to temporarily suspend our debit card which, being New Year weekend, should not be a problem, and we do have other options anyway. Heigh-ho for the Library version - if the local public library is back open.
How the hell can Ancestry.com.au be allowed to operate in Australia?
Signed up for a DNA kit as a present for $150. Automatically got roped into a ‘free trial’ of Ancestry web service. Got charged an additional $250 for this service and never got the DNA kit. Requested a refund only to be told that the web service was a ‘separate product’ with a 14 cancellation period - well before the kit could have ever arrived (even without COVID). Ancestry.com.au avoid their responsibility of a proper complaints and contact procedure. They have stonewalled my reasonable request for a refund of the subscription fee that does ...not deliver any service unless receiving the DNA kit, which NEVER ARRIVED. The email address they respond through does not allow you the right of reply, and no alternative is offered. Why the hell are these guys allowed to continue to operate without meeting basic requirements for contacting them??? Hello hello regulators are you asleep at the wheel?!?!

I am trying to find my results
Sorry but all i can say is good luck!! Unfortunately my experience with Ancestry.com tells me they are not reliable and are hit and miss with their results. Try another DNA provider
Not good. My cousin has done accurate research about our family’s heritage. I got my DNA estimate with my heritage and it was quite inaccurate in comparison to the research. Not recommended.
