Faulty caseing – Arlec torch model AUT133 (x2) proved to be good torches until they became to sticky to handle, it was disappointing considering that they spent 99% of their time in bedside tables, the rubbery trims must be chemically unsound i would assume. Is there no recourse because of this fault.

Arlec 2 In 1 27 LED Utility Torch – Great little torch, has 27 LEDs as one part of torch and 3 LEDs as the other part of torch, its also magnetic great hands free and a hook to hang anywhere, mine has lasted over a year, l have never replaced t he batteries yet, l have used it many times. Price at Bunnings is $6.76. comes in a variety of colours. Small compact, plenty of light for when power goes out, and will last you forever.

A good compact multi-purpose, tent or breakdown torch – A dual beam LED torch about the size of a large computer mouse. It is powered by 3 size AAA batteries. It has 3LED's for forward vision or alternatively 24LED's for wide angle beam on the side. A fold out hook makes it ideal to hang in a small tent and a magnet allows it to stick to a motor vehicle for doing urgent repairs. It is a convenient size for glove box or luggage. It is quite inexpensive as it is advertised for about $7.00. It comes in a variety of colours. Dual beam, fold out hook, magnet, convenient size, inexpensive. You have to undo three screws to change the batteries but sometimes that makes the product stronger.

This torch is a great design but a few years later, the rubberized plastic on the front and back will deteriorate until it becomes sticky and uncomfortable to use. I have had email communications with Arlec about this and they said the parts are not replaceable and the rubberized plastic cannot be restored.

I have found that the offending material is a surface coat that can be removed and scrubbed down to hard plastic by using some scotch brite scourer and Mr Sheen.
