the Series 3 Grid connect plugs are hopeless. I have the 1st gen plug all around the house and have used in all environments (wifi, reef tank, lighting, heaters..), the Series 3 have made me look for an alternative product and replace all the 1st gen at the same time, Tp link Tapo has been the alternative and works as expected. Show details

Setup is terrible, the power meter is something you should not trust – In the app it shows Voltage 229.4V, current 0.061A, power 7.7W. 229.4*0.061 =13.99W, what do I trust? Why it shows contradictory information? Show details

Far from perfect. Precision very low – The precision of measurements is pretty low. It might be ok for high power devices, but for low power devices precision is very poor. No voltage changes in the 1-2h, shows same readings. Same with the current for my Raspberry pie pc. Doesn't mattter how it is loaded or even disconnected shows same current 0.027A.

I have used a few other brands of Smart AC Socket (GPO) Plugs but this one is the best – These are good things about this IOT Samrt AC PLUG & Socket (Tuya Eco System) 1. Instigates and is recognised in Tuya Eco System within seconds. I use Tuya App (Android) 2. Most IOT products function on Earlier 2.4GHz this is because of longer reach and low bandwidth - make sure your Mobile Phone is logged on your router in the lower bandwidth… Read more

WIFI. This is not a technological old flaw or limitation or cheapness. 3. Size is well thought out. It will fit a Double Mechanical GPO wall plate side by side. 4. Fits double GPO adaptors nicely 5. State remembered - ON or OFF 6. Works with hundreds of other IOT Tuya based devices in scene automations 7. Works in Voice command in Alexa and Google Home and smart scenes 8. This is NOT the remote dependent RF model as it is ONLY WIFI. I have other IOT products in Tuya that can do BOTH RF and WIFI, so I do understand RF. Notes: Modern WIFI Routers (post 2021), are more powerful and many now prioritise IOT smart home devices. I have 2 such WIFI Routers the medium sized home. Failure to get this working is not the fault of Arlec or product. It is usually your old Router, or your Router does not enough good stable WIFI reach or is too easily swamped maintaining just a few devices. Modern Router 2021 handle up to 125 IOT devices before even slowing down. I have a non-WIFI based Router maintaining connection to the NBN, networked on Ethernet to two WIFI Routers located strategically in the home.

I have been using Smart Home devices since 2016. I was in I.T. for some 31 years. I have nothing negative to say about this product.

Excellent remotely programmable timeclock – This model had worked faultlessly being used as a timeclock controlling a battery charger until one day with a thunderstorm & lightning directly overhead it lost its time schedule although it still switched on/off using manual button. Nevertheless I was simply able to regain control from my smartphone & reprogram without any difficulty. This particular model has an excellent Energy Meter function....Regards Ray Bright Show details

Amazing. Amazing quality compared to other brands – I used to have a Brilliant Smart plug, until that overheated and blew. This was my replacement, and I love it. It helps me automate my home without a hub, and is simple and easy to use. I use it to manage the power supply for my desk, so I can easily say "Hey Google, turn on the desk" as I walk in or say "Alexa, turn on the desk" into my… Read more

smartwatch as I am commuting home. I love the countdown timer - it allows me to use my desk and walk away without worrying - knowing that it will automatically turn off for me after 45 mins. Well done Arlec.

Arlec Grid Connect Smart Plug In Socket Two out four faulty – I bought a pack of four Arlec Grid Connect Smart Plug In Sockets With Energy Meters at Bunnings. The app is pretty clunky but works, and you can use Google assistant as well. The socket looks great and is a small and neat design. Of the four in the pack two were faulty in a dangerous way that should result in the product being withdrawn or… Read more

recalled in my view. The faulty sockets both set up as normal (flashing light on the socket until the app paired ok), and you could use the app to turn the socket on and off as indicated by the power light on the socket itself.

However, the faulty sockets remained permanently powered on even when switched off and the light on the socket turns off, and you should assume the outlet is therefore not live, yet it is still sending out 240V. This is dangerous faulty behaviour. I will return to Bunnings (Which I think is the sole distributor of these products) for a refund not a replacement. I note that the product is not listed on the Grid Connect website
