Avanti Pork Belly Skin Crisping Tool

Is there anything better out there? – Purchased this item to make some crispy pork belly, but was left feeling flat. Piercing the pork skin was so difficult so had to soften the skin in boiling water to actually get the holes to appear. As the recipe was not followed because of this action the meat was not as moist. The prongs are quite sharp, my finger can testify to that.
