Black & Decker Lithium Pivot Dustbuster Questions & Answers
VerifiedI want to replace the filter, but the filter cover won't come loose. What can I do?
My Dustbuster PV1820L has become extremely loud, its not a cleaning issue or the filters, its something to do with the motor or fan, (still powerful suction) anyone any experience and how to dis-assemble to get at the effected parts, perhaps balance, broken fan, bearings or motor fixture, just guessing, any help appreciated to [contact details removed]
I have a similar issue. Same model as yours. Sounds like a rattling bearing or something, mainly happens when powering the thing off. Its an annoying sound..
Is there a downloadable manual available?
Hello John Unfortunately no on downloadable manual. A rarity, I know. I’ve provided a link fir you to fully check out specs etc. Overall, the Dustbuster is straightforward to use. external link Hope I was able to assist you today. Any further inquiries p, please do not hesitate to ask. Regards Maria
Thanks for the reply. I’d just scored one second hand minus manual. One thing I’d like to ask is, when in full recline, I assume it folds, then locks in position and holds? However mine folds, locks, but then the side (that gives access to filter) becomes unfastened. Is this how it’s meant to be.?
Is there an online manual available for download?
Is the battery interchangeable.
Hi there. I've had two of these and you couldn't replace the battery....which of course expired just out of warranty!! If you can afford it, by a Dyson V8 animal. You can replace the battery in this...and it is superior in every way. I bought one three weeks ago....and love it. Gail
Hi there again. I haven't checked the latest version of this to see if the battery can be replaced. Ask the supplier. Gail
Hello, sorry but don’t think the battery is interchangeable due to where the prongs are. You may contact supplier where a replacement can be purchased.
I have just ordered the 1420L from Takealot on Black Friday and now reading all the bad reviews. Do you recommend me returning it right away?
We have had ours for a while with no issues. It does what it is designed for - quick cleaning etc. hubby uses to clean the suv with no issues, me general cleanups. It works well, no issues. Worst scenario, you are within your warranty rights if you have issues. Hope this helped.
This is a good little unit, however the real problem with it is the battery doesnt last. Weve had two now...,battery only lasted about eighteen months....and thats only using it two or three times a week.
And mine was an 18V
can I purchase a spare batery
what is the price?
I have this vac and find it good. No problem, yet, with battery. Had it about a year. However, each time I place it on its base, dust, dirt, whatever ive just vacuumed up, falls out of the end/nozzle. I then have to clean that up. And same thing will happen. Looks like the little flexible seal isnt sealing as it should.
Anyone else has this problem?
Might take it back.
Thanks
It probably has a loose or detached seal, which looks like a small black flap. Just empty and shake out the dust/dirt container into a bin after each use and before putting it back on its base. I would keep it because it is handy to use and keep in the car, although even with a fully charged battery it gives less than 20 minutes use.
Thanks Acton. I thought it was the seal, i think it gets blocked open, depending on whats in it. Very fiddly to open, close and empty and take apart. So, i might just see if they'll refund. But it has good suction.
it stops after 2 seconds. Any ideas?
What is the recharge time for thelithium pivot dustbuster and it runtime please?
The runtime is about 10-15mins matching with product description. But I don’t monitor the recharge time yet as it won’t bother me.
Can I get a charge cradle/cord for the PV1820L? Mine got lost in a move.
How do I retract the crevice extension which is locked in place, cannot re charge with it out?
If you press down at the front near the lines when pushing it back in it should close? Maybe your one is jammed? Just try that see what happens
Thank you - yes this worked, I was just afraid to exert too much pressure.
I like the dustbuster except for this problem of the crevice tool not retracting easily. Yet it's indispensable to get it back inside so it can sit again on the charging base. I need to press really hard with my thumb and even then it's unclear when this will work or not. On many occasions, I had to give up and return to it the next day, when it finally worked. The position of the lines to press on is also awkward and you have to hold the dustbuster in a very specific, clumsy position. I came here in the hope of finding instructions from the manual or tips to help with this issue.
Does the dust buster pivot 14.4v have a replaceable battery?
I'm not sure although I did look it up & watch a video external link where a guy opens up the battery case & there's 4 large batteries that don't seem like they would be easy to find but there was 2 links in the comments that might help & they mentioned the 4 large red batteries seem to be 18650 cells.
Here are the links

How do you take the cover off to replace the battery?
Use the attached link to download User Manual in PDF form. Instructions for battery cover removal are provided.

No idea but I expect it to go for at least 2 years without touching it
I am still extremely happy with my unit
Remove the two screws holding the chrome cover then lift that end slightly and give it a tap toward the charging end.
