Black Diamond Revolt 350 Headlamp
1 review
for me this is a very well designed headlamp at a good price – I saw some poor reviews of the black diamond Spot, and I accept the small number of people (6 at the time of posting) who expressed an opinion have mostly not had a good time with it. However I have been very happy with the revolt 350. I find it very well designed in the way you do not have to cycle through high/med/low/strobe each time you use it. In fact strobe was pleasingly hard to find - Im still looking for anyone anywhere in the world how has actively needed strobe mode. Even better it remembers the last setting you used, no need to cycle through anything. Its almost worth buying just for that.
I also find the different settings useful, including the red night vision light. And the lock function to stop accidental turning on is excellent. I started using it after I accidentally went through a set of batteries while in my backpack.
In summary, I think this headlight has been designed by people who actively use them.
For the Revolt, the price was quite reasonable. I do question how an led mounted in a battery holder with headband can cost well in to the 100s of dollars. This one was less than AU50.
On the downside, the light is sell constructed in my opinion, but doesnt feel like an expensive light if that sort of thing bothers you.
The batteries are held in place with a plastic clip, which I would expect to be the first point of failure after prolonged use. However mine shows no sign of this happening, so I have nothing at all to support that thought.
Also if you're not handy with gadgets, it can take a bit of getting used to how to operate the different modes.
And lastly, its one of the lowest models so the output is adequate for camping, but not blinding. Arguably thats ideal as too bright a camp light tends to blind your camping friends. But if you want to light up possums or kangaroos simply go for a higher end model with more output.
At the end of the day, I would purchase this headlamp again at a similar price point - but I havent had any failures or other cause to dislike it. Certainly I couldnt find anything with the same features I list (all of which are important to me), with most alternates disqualifying themselves immediately because you have to cycle through the strobe setting each time you use it.
