    It's a Bosch!

    published

I decided to buy this sander because it was on special and belts were a standard size, so readily available. I have used it on a number of sanding jobs and it certainly works but does have limitations with regard to where you can use it - large flat surfaces best. Belt changing is easy and alignment is one adjusting screw. The capacity of the dust catcher is limited but easy enough to empty and there is a facility to fit a bracket so you can use it upside down in a vice for sanding small objects, very useful as it makes it more versatile.

    Good

    published

This is a good sander for the odd job in woodworking but not suited to larger applications where a much bigger belt would be desirable.
This is a very easy to use sander with a relatively good dust filter. One of the smaller belt sanders around but still capable of taking on some serious work.
Comfortable grips and easy to operate trigger with a lock in function to allow for a relaxed operation.
The belt can slide a little if too much pressure is used and it can be a touch on the noisy side.
The dust collector can clog up easily and needs to be cleaned often.

Hi Peter, all sanders, not just this one, are renowned for having very poor dust collection. Mostly, the filter cartridges are very inefficient. The one exception is the festool random orbital sander (not sure if they have a belt sander), but these cost a bomb. I hook my Bosch belt sander up to a shop vac when using indoors. This works very well, but it does require a hose clip or something to keep the hose on the sander. Remember to use a dust mask, fine sawdust is really bad for your lungs. Cheers.

Hi John, there is no adjustment to the belt tension that I am aware of. Make sure you have the right size belt. It should be a tight fit getting it on, and then when the red lever is depressed, it should really tighten up. I have never had an issue with slipping and have used mine for at least 5 years now. There is a screw on the side that adjusts the tracking. The belt can move from side to side, and this screw can re-centre the belt. I have noticed that if you push too hard, it can cause the belt to move left or right. Just back off the pressure and let the tool do its job. You don't really need to push down at all.

Same issue belt sops off all the time making the job unworkable. Crap tool. Suggestions for a better tool?
