Persuaded – Thanks for all the reviews above. Off to the recyclers today! I see I have to write more words so here goes. The position finally was that the printer stopped - apparently the owner had updated cartridges recently and that cost a bit. We have actually upgraded to another more modern Brother model, and would acknowledge that this one did a good life in its day.

Reasonable machine for the price but I'm now having power supply problems – Not sure how long I've had mine but it must be at least 10 years, so it has had a good run. Have had my share of paper jams which can be very annoying but have always been able to clear them. However I have been having a power supply problem for the past year or so. The plug doesn't fit securely into the socket on the side of the printer and I… Read more

have had to jiggle it about to get power to the machine. I even resorted to jamming a clothes peg between the plug and desktop to maintain the connection.

Unfortunately even that no longer works. I have spent about the past hour fiddling with it - it powers up then as soon as I let go of the lead it cuts out. Even jamming it in place no longer helps. Very frustrating, but I guess I have had my money's worth considering how long I've had it and the amount of stuff I've printed with it.

If anyone has had a similar problem and have found a way around it I would much appreciate it. as a last resort I'm going to unplug everything and try cleaning contacts and perhaps bending things to try to get tighter fit.

Hopeless – the paper tray constantly jams and the rollers are very flimsy. It wasn't expensive but then most aren't these days. If one colour cartridge runs out you can't just print black. I've bought it over in colour cartridges I rarely need. Not happy. simple access flimsy papertray always jams rollers snapped.

Very happy with this cheap printer scanner – I have had mine for about 5 years and it has done a mountain of work. Scanning and printing both. I have only ever used the cartridges it came with and have re inked using Calidad. Couldn't say hw many times but probably about 15 or 20 times. Only occasional jams - no more than with any other printer I have ever used. It just works al the time… Read more ·  1

and it was so cheap - I paid $38 at an opening sale for a Big W store. A new set of cartridges was dearer at the time!

Just fine – I've had this printer for years (5?) and I've definitely got my dollars worth out of it. Although it took me a long time to get the right setting notes for university turn out great. Jamming is a problem so you have to figure out a way to prevent this (printed pages sometimes get sucked back into the machine and jam it). I go through almost… Read more

1000 sheets per semester which costs me a set of colours and 2 black cartridges (and I always print in colour where possible), and the ink I get is really cheap online (about $35 for B+B+Y+C+M). Nowadays it's probably slow at printing. It's shaky but this doesn't seem to effect the outcome. Inexpensive, reliable (over time) Paper jams are common, slow at scanning

Bad – Having had two brother printers now I would suggest that this is a value for money printer as long as you use the cheaper compatible cartridges in it rather than original equipment. Whilst it is a reliable printer it was difficult to set up in that unlike other printers you shouldn't connect the printer to the powersource OR the computer until… Read more

you have installed the software. Doing it in the reverse order can create some printing problems.

It prints slowly and because it only has a single paper tray it is harder to re-use paper. With the operating controls and display window on the top of the machine and it really needs to be installed in a below eyeheight position on your computer desk.

So far it has been very reliable but I would only buy it when it is on a good special. Compact Printer, Low Cost Compatible cartridges available Slow, Installation procedure a but tricky

OK – I bought this machine because it copied, scanned and printed. I only payed $100 for it. I did have to go out and purchase the cord to connect it to the computer seperately which set me back $16. i was disapointed about that. the image quality is reasonably okay. i have seen worse but i've also seen better. i'd probably rate the quality of printing… Read more

photos to be 7/10. The worst thing about this printer is that it doesnt seem to be built to last. i only had mine for 15 months and it suddenly stopped working. i was unable to fix it myself and it was out of warranty so i replaced it with a different brand. With this one id say you get what you pay for. It is inexpencive. Copys, scans and prints all in one. Mine lasted only 15 months before it stopped working all together. it was just out of warranty.

Terrible – A great design but the quality of performance did not pass the test of time. I would not buy another device like this. Very disappointing. Good functionality. Good quality performance when new. Performance degraded rapidly with age. The paper drawer continually sticks. Its will not switch off unless power to it is cut. It cleans its inkjets every time its used and is consequently very slow. Lots of paper jams.

Terrible – This is the worst printer ever. One jam and you have to buy a new one as there is no access to clear the jam. The scanner does not install from the software and the service offered by Brother matches the quality of the machine CRAP! Buy anything else it cannot be worse than this. Please tell all your friends Don't buy BROTHER! Hate it Hate it… Read more
