Awesome printer – I had problems with misalignment which seem to get sorted after a whole lot of troubleshooting steps. I love this printer because unlike previous inkjets I've owned, the ink doesn't just dry up. I can hear the periodic, automated head cleaning. Also, I always seem to get many more prints than expected out of the ink cartridges. Show details
Better printer – I've had worse printers. I got this because i can get cheap ink refills online, which is a big game changer for as i dont want to pay expensive refills or having to take it to a refill the same cartridge thingy.. The networking on this printer is a hit and miss, but failing to connect at the best of times. Apart from that it does what its meant to do, print, scan and copy.
Won't align properley! – Previously i didn't have a problem with this printer and I've owned it over a year now. I had a few issues with the printer cartridges not reading properly or always needing to clean it before using. But for the last month I have not been able to use it properly due to cronic mis-alignment. I follow all the instructions to align and it doesn't change a thing. I went out and brought a Canon....
Not reliable at all – When I first bought it, it was working fine, few months later, it couldn't accurately detect the ink volume - in 1 minute, the ink volume for a color can be low and not enough to print, then if you just take out the cartridge and re-install it again, it can detect that it's full !! and recently, it displays an error message that it can not detect… Read more
at least one of the ink cartridges whenever I try to print, I have to take the cartridges out and re-install it "slowly" at least 3-4 times till "may be" finally it'll be able to detect that they are all installed correctly...in addition, I think it consumes too much ink... the 300pages printed by the black ink, and 260 for colored inks is not true at all, it doesn't even print half these numbers !!!
Extremely bad printer...don't recommend it at all ...
Faded colour – I bought a Brother DCP J125 which is printing faded colour. It never prints bright colour. Even the UK flag flag is grey and orange.... not royal blue and red. Disappointing...
value for money – Very convenient, print/scan wirelessly from anywhere.. from mobiles, tablet or pc. Cheap compatible ink from ebay. Although it's slower than my laser and print quality is not for photo purposes, but for this low operational cost, I don't mind. Paper tray is also another advantage, although this one doesn't have any ADF. this one doesn't have… Read more
USB slot but has SD and memory stick slot. Weird wireless print/scan from phones/tablet/pc, cheap ink from ebay, easy setup, paper tray photo print wash out, slow printing
Software Needs Rewriting – Prior to buying a Brother DCP J315W Wireless printer I had a Canon Pixma ip 1000 Printer which was fantastic. For 12 months I have had my computer set to greyscale for printing so that it only allows the printer to print black and white. This has made no difference to the amount of coloured ink this Brother printer uses. The software has it go… Read more
through the colours. The colour black is the same size as the other colours but costs twice as much and I have still have to change the colours. The initial cost of this printer is cheap. They make their money in the ink whether you only scan, only print black and white makes no difference to the daily messages of low ink. You can temporarily continue printing black and white with a colour empty until one day it will not print until you change that ink. I have not printed in colour for 12 months but the printer goes through exactly the same amount of ink as when I was printing colour occasionally due to how the software has been written. I have searched on the internet for a way of overiding the ink monitor, there are no solutions out there. One has to be wirelessly connected if you buy the wireless version because the cord plugs in where you need to place documents to photocopy and the lid won't close, so there is no going around it. Don't buy this model is my only advice. It scans well. It prints ok. Has software that runs inks down whether you are using them or not.
Waste of money – The print quality is extremely poor. No matter how sharp the picture is on my computer, the resulting photo is blurry, with washed out colours. I have spent hours reading up on the settings & still find them too complicated. One of the main features I bought it for was it has individual ink cartridges, which strangely seem to all run out at… Read more
the same time, so proved to be of no advantage. Also they are very expensive & contain very little ink, I seem to be constantly buying new ones, though I don't do much printing. Another annoying aspect is that if one cartridge is empty, the printer stops till its replaced even if its not a colour needed for the job at hand.
Extremely disappointed & will be replacing it as soon as possible. Internal paper tray, keeps the paper flat & clean. Poor reproduction of photos & quality of general print. Expensive ink cartridges. Complicated settings when not using default.
A very reliable printer – I've had my printer nearly three years and must say I am very happy with it. This DCP-J125 was relatively cheap and was very easy to set up and use. It works quite hard and I use generic ink cartridges in it which work well. Maybe the scans could be better but at this price point and my requirements, it suits my needs. Easy to set up, easy to replace cartridges, and very reliable. Nothing really.
Brother - Absolute Rubbish – My first Brother printer was an MFC-250C. I made the mistake of buying another Brother , a DCP-J125. Both had exactly the same problem. They would print OK at first but after a while they wouldn't print the black ink. I bought new Brother ink cartridges and tried them to no avail, the problem persisted. I had only used Canon before this and… Read more
decided on Brother because their ink cartridge prices weren't insanely sky high like the others. I will never buy another Brother product as long as I live. I gave it 1 star because that is as low I could go on this review, if I could I would give Brother zero or negative stars. Ink cartidges were the cheapest at the time. Works fine at first but then stops printing black.
Not Very Happy – After an avid Canon person all my life, I thought that the time had come to try another brand as the replacement cartridges were a little expensive with Canon. So I tried Brother, and what a mistake this was. It continually jams and the printing quality was very dissapointing as well. I have always used the proper authorised cartirdges for both… Read more
brands, and Canon was definately better. I will maybe now try Epson? Or go back to the Canon, knowing that the quality is there The price of cartridges Printing Quality is BAD, Paper Jams a lot
Brother - never again – Great spec at a relatively fair price. There's just one minor problem with it though, Terrible print quality. Turned off the Eco mode and put drivers into vivid mode and still, even on photo paper, the colour print is extremely faded, bleeded and just no where the intended shades. Don't buy. Functionality The print
Great unit..very fast printing and wireless as well! For under $100 it's great value! – Purchased this in November and it came with the sample cartridges that are filled with lower capacity inks than original ones. since then I have printed lots of pages as well as photos and it only came up with low ink last week (that's 5 mths worth of printing!) Very functional as it has wifi, quick scanning, copying and really fast printing for a… Read more
unit of this price. I've been very nicely surprised with this printer. Easy to use, paper feeder pulls out like a cartridge and you refill it and slide it back into unit, wifi is handy to have but best is how quicly it prints both black and colour pages. I would like the paper feeder to hold more paper as I use a lot!

Know better, choose better.
Ridiculously small black ink cartridge lasts a few weeks – I bought this printer about 3 weeks ago. I have already used up 2 black ink cartridges. I do print a lot of material for work. But the cartridges are way too small. Much smaller than the previous 2 Brother multifunction printers I used before. This thing is a waste of money, time and effort. Poor design Brother. it prints ok ink cartridges too small, need to keep replacing them, expensive and time wasting
Very disappointing – The Brother DCP-J315W printer was very disappointing. I will have to return it. I print a lot of coloured cards. Problems are: It prints some of the graphics on the photo paper & before it has finished picks up another piece of paper & prints the remaining graphic on that. I have tried it various times & it still ruins my print job. Also it does… Read more
not print the colour that is shown on the computer screen. So I have to darken the colour of the graphic to get the real colour.
Previous to owning this printer, I had a Brother MFC 425CN, which was outstanding & worked for over 4 years. It also had the most economical ink tanks that I have ever used.
couldn't print graphics on one page; didn't print the colour as depicted on the computer screen.
Rubbish product - faded colour pix and I have a brand new printer - brother o Brother - haven't bought from you guys in years and won't again
