Brother DCP-J925DW

Not up to Brothers usual standards – I have Brother printers in my office (all lazer) and love them. This one is for home, and while I'm impressed with how many features they have packed in, the print quality is dreadful. I spent a fortune on genuine ink and with full cartridges it prints awfully. I can't use it for very much at all, except scanning which I don't often need at home.
Excellent, Fast, Reliable Printer! – I've had this printer since 2012 and I must say it has worked really well! The ink is an absolute rip off from Brother so I suggest taking a look at ink on eBay. The print quality might not be the best, but its fast and reliable and does what I need. One thing that bugs me is that Google Print doesn't work for me which is quite a hassle. Other than that its been great. Better than my parent's Canon that I'd gotten them. That one takes forever to start up and really difficult to set up for scanning. The Brother scans right to a folder on my computer. When this dies I'll definitely consider looking at another Brother.
The printer only cost me around $129 as well. Ink is around $10 from eBay. Proper Brother ink from Officeworks is around $120.. I couldn't tell a difference. The ADF is pretty good although only one sided. This hasn't bothered me too much as I usually scan only one sided anyway. Its a bit of a hassle if scanning double sided things. I don't print on CD/DVDs or use many other features. It also works as a photocopier although I don't use it for that either.
I've been happy with it.
Best inkjet to date! – This is the third ink jet printer that we have owned & honestly the best. We started off with a huge monochrome ink jet about 18 years back – what a monster. When that started to leak ink everywhere we then went to a Canon Pixmas followed by another Pixma some years later. They were okay & did the job, they have though now gone to printer heaven.
To be truthful the last Canon met its demise because I used refillable cartridges so it wasn’t really the printers fault – refillable is a big mistake – don’t go there. In my experience generic cartridges seem fine but may lack deep colour in prints, just avoid refillables.
We bought the Brother DCP-J925DW over a year back & have for the first time a month back replaced the four cartridges which emptied around the same time. Don’t be fooled though, if the software or printer advises you the ink is low it probably isn’t! In fact all cartridges were around 50% full when they started to indicate “replace”. I phoned Brother & they said just ignore the message & once the printer can’t print then replace the cartridges. This I did & all was fine.
I did replace the Brother cartridges with generic & they seem to be fine, the colour looks to be close to the original, I use the printer mostly for CD/DVDs & use a colour laser for most other printing. Laser seems to be less costly for colour.
In conclusion the Brother has been excellent, always prints without a glitch & the Wi-Fi has never failed. I have no hesitation in recommending the DCP-J925DW (or later variants) to anyone, it’s a great printer!
Brother DCP-J925DW – I purchased my Brother printer 6 months ago. During this time I have spent more on ink that I have ever done before. It has terrible efficiency compared to a lot of other printers. To bad the sales man didn't tell me that when I was purchasing the printer. I defiantly wouldn't buy a Brother printer again. Easy to use It is amazing how inefficient Brother makes their printers in order to make more money from ink sales.
One of the best printers I've owned – This is the first Brother printer I've owned, after being quite loyal to the HP and Canon brands. I decided to take a gamble, and so far, it's definitly paid off. Solid build, excellent functionality, easy to setup, and most of all, the wife is very happy with it as well, so that's a definite win! Out of all the printers I've owned, it would have to be the easiest to get setup and working. Wireless up and running first time, test print from the PC as soon as the drivers were installed, and after installing the Brother iPrint and Scan app on the Andriod phone , iPhone and iPad, all were able to print photos and scan without an issue.
I was initially looking at a similar Canon, but for an extra $20, this brother had seperate ink tanks (only pay for what you use), and built-in duplexing. Both cost saving features that will more than pay for themselves.
Have now owned and been using for about 4 weeks, and so far, incredibly happy with both the print quality and usability. Easy to setup, Duplexing, Seperate Ink Tanks, iPhone/Android Print and Scan app, Wireless and Wired networking including scanning, Dual Paper Trays (A4 and 6x4), Paper feeder for Scanner Only 2 small points so far. Reloading paper can be a little fiddly, and to switch between A4 and Photo paper requires manual switch, so it can't be done via the App or driver.

Our BROTHER wireless multifunction inkjet printer just died after only 18 months of limited home use (school projects only) - my first experience with BROTHER and no sensible solutions from their product help area. I will be trying another brand for our next purchase!
