Brother HL-2130 / HL-2132

Best printer ever – This relatively cheap printer would have printed thousands and thousands of pages without ever missing a beat and the prints are always crisp and clear. Having had a lot of issues with printers, this printer has been nothing short of a dream. The toners are quite possible the cheapest on the market.
Definitely worth my money – Bought mine for about $50(?) in 2013, still going strong even to this day! It's only jammed a handful of times, but there's enough help online to easily fix it yourself. It's perfect if you constantly need B&W printing (I'm a university student, so essays are a frequent thing) and I've only changed my toner and ink once, this whole time. It's… Read more
quite cheap to replace the toner/ink if you buy it from eBay, and it's not like you'd need to change it often anyway. I can't say much for the print quality as I only use it for printing words, but so far, everything's been good - the ink comes out strong and consistent. The only things I'd be concerned about is if you require double-sided printing (it's a bit of puzzle) and also the bulkiness of the product.
Considering it's been 5 years since though, it was definitely worth that $50. Sad that it's been discontinued - it's such a great product. I'm hoping Brother will make another product that addresses the two issues I mentioned, but is still at the same great, long-lasting quality as this printer.
What a little beauty – I literally love this printer. I have owned it for around 5 years now printing anywhere between 4 and 10 pages per day 5 days a week. Toners off ebay around $16 delivered. They last over 6 months. I print maps, pictures and text mainly for my home business. Pros: - It is seemless. - Toner is dead cheap. - The printer was cheap to buy. Cons: - None that I can think of. Prints well but paper often doesn't feed properly (jams) – This Laser printer has great printing and I get generic economic refills from eBay when needed though they do last a long time. The paper does jam sometimes which is frustrating so I try to feed one sheet of paper into it at a time. The toner light blinks early to warn you to order another cartridge. Overall I like this printer for the cheap price. Show details
3 years going strong! – I have lost count of how many ink replacements ive done. Printed SOOO much over 3 yrs. You can get more prints out of the cartridge through a simple hack, just google it. Initially, it did give off a funny burning smell, but stopped after a few months. Never jams, always prints. Payed $50 for it, but it acts like a $200 printer
Perfect, cheap, economic, long lasting – i've been using this to print out document (every day) since early 2013, and still printing fine today! The only problem is the fuser is dirty, after I try to print a small paper and forgot to set the paper size properly. I usually refill the toner in a toner refill store, it last for about 3 months!
Perfect – You simply cannot buy better. The initial toner does not do 600 pages however and I presume several of the bad reviews did not realise that and dumped a perfectly good printer. With generic TN450s you cannot print cheaper. This is our 3rd printer and we just keep coming back for more. When the belt life is up we dump and start again.
Good, but broke down after one year and started smoking – I really like this printer. It spits out pages at an amazing pace and there aren't continual paper jams like with my old inkjet printer. However after about a year, the printer died and started smoking horrible fumes which seems somewhat dangerous, and I've never had this happen with a printer before. I'm now cautious about replacing it with the same model.
Excellent Printer For The Price!! – I bought this printer after owning a multi function printer which cost me an absolute fortune in ink. I have not looked back since! It doesn't have the bells and whistles of my MFP but I didn't use them anyway. Toner is a much more economical way to print, mu old MFP wouldn't even print B&W if any colour cartridges were empty, I will never buy… Read more
another! In my opinion, for under $50 on special, you cant go past this printer. Cheap, reliable, no gimmicks you wont use-just plain black & white printing! None
Great value printer – I purchased my Brother HL-2132 printer 2 years ago from Officeworks in Malaga for under $50. I only print a few times a year and I was fed up with my collection of useless Inkjet printers that had dried out before I was able to use their ink. This is not the case for my HL-2132. My printer once sat unused for over a year and a half and it still… Read more
printed perfect when I eventually needed to use it.
The Brother HL-2132 can also accept the large capacity TN-2250 toner cartridges that will print over 2500 pages. A generic TN-2250 toner can be purchased from some Australian online stores for as little as $30, this would be very economical for someone who prints a lot.
The Brother HL-2132 is a reliable printer, it's compact size doesn't take up too much space, it prints fast and easy is to use. Does not dry out like Injet printers A little bit noisy
The cheapest laserjet you can get – I do not print much and I choose the Brother mainly because of the price ($42 with toner) It last longer than most of cartridges I used before. Previously I used HP and Brother is far better. Every single HP I had broke down and this one is going well. Maybe is a bit noisy but in general a perfect choice for the price. The unbeatable price Toner replacement far more expensive than the printer itself!
Printer stopped after 342 pages - toner light on – The toner light was solid after 342 pages. I had to reset the machine to print out a supply levels page. The starter toner is supposed to last at least 600 pages. _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ _ When not running out of toner it works well. Toner light comes on when there is still plenty of toner remaining.
Another great Brother workhorse! – After my 6th multifunction machine went down I decided to go back to good old mono! I bought a separate scanner (with no blinky lights costing me $50 a throw for cartridges) and this printer, real simple, fast and cheap to run (still on the sample cartridge)OK so maps may be a bit confusing and you aren't going to impress anyone with your… Read more
powerpoint printouts but if all you need is reliable and cheap printing then this is for you No flashing lights every 2 weeks begging for more expensive ink, cheap and simple to operate. Mono, it just prints!

cheap and nasty, doesn't last – absolutely terrible. hardly used, maybe 3-5 pages a week, only lasted around 6 months. would not recommend. we only bought it because it was on special. and now we know why it was on special. now we have a toner that is useless and a printer that needs to be binned. cheap doesn't last, faulty, new toner, still fault light
It doesn't do as many prints as advitised – We've had to buy a second one of these printers tonight as it was saying we'd ran out of toner but we hadn't printed up to 1000 or so copies out of this brand new cartridge we'd only bought about 4 months or so ago and yet it reckons we've ran out of toner
yes the first toner that comes with is intentionally small to keep price down. I bought refills… Read more (+3 replies)
Beyond Excellent – This is a good basic printer. However, when you consider the price and resultant value for money ratio, it's beyond excellent. I don't know how they do it. I've been using it for a year or more and it works faultlessly. The manual feeder wasn't all it could be at first with the very small, extremely thin sheets I put through it but it seemed to… Read more
fix itself. It's important to carefully align whatever you insert so that the rollers grab it perfectly evenly. When I do that it works very well. This does qualify as a mildly significant idiosyncrasy but as I say, you learn to deal with it and it's the only 'problem' I've found with the machine. Again, the purchase price would negate any other issues relating to the HL-2130 but there aren't any.
As for noise, it sits right next to me on my desk dormant most of the time. When it prints it fires up and makes a bit of a racket but it settles down again shortly after. I think of it as the noise of a fine little machine proudly doing an excellent job; showing off, if you like. Sort of reminding you of how much money you've saved. In fact, I need a new toner cartridge for it so I've just purchased a second machine (which contains a reduced volume toner cartridge and another drum unit) for one dollar more than the cost of a full toner cartridge. I like this printer so much I can't bear the thought of this one failing at some time in the future when there are no more available. (I'm pessimistic by nature and figure anything this good can't last forever.) Think about it. How pleased with a product would someone have to be to write such a long-winded product review? Everything, including the noise
Excellent – Can not fauly this printer, will never go back to inkjet again, and the people complaining how noisy it is, I dont understand why. My inkjet was much noiser. Very compact, the print quality is great, I especially like the way there is no paper hanging out anywhere. Love it. Ease of set up and compact Show 3 replies
Much better than those pesky multi jet horrors – For home office use when B/W printout is mainly required, this is an excellent product, fast to start and just prints without effort. Lots of useful settings.Brother is supposed to be one of the most reliable suppliers. Nice functional design with huge enclosed paper tray, but black body color instead of grey would have been nice. The main switch is… Read more · 2
also awkwardly placed.I didn't think the startup noise was objectionable.
After constantly replenishing ink on the previous printer at great cost and waiting minutes for a printout, laser is a revelation.
Cartridges aren't expensive, but refill kits are even cheaper. Just works without any fuss
Not Happy with this product – I have been using the HL-2140 or four years and loved it. this printer is inferior. Why change a good thing? This printer is noisier and it doesn't take envelopes as well as the HL-2140. Inexpensive Noisy, Doesn't grab the envelope well via the manual feeder.
I will never buy this product again – At Officeworks, I specifically asked for which printer would be the most cost effective re toner and was told this model was it - and it also sells itself as low cost on toner use. We rarely print as we save most things electronically nowadays, unless absolutely necessary. Yet I don't think I've ever gone through as many cartridges as I have… Read more
with this machine. I change reams of paper less than I change cartridges and I figure I am lucky to get 500 pages out of it.
The best thing I can do with this printer is drop it into the sea and get myself something that's not going to cost a fortune every two months.

To noisy for me – Prints fairly quickly with a good first page out time, under 15 seconds, which is a little slower than advertised, but still ok. Print quality is very good to my eyes, and the price of $39.00 was also good, But the noise of the cooling fan and the amount of time it runs for was just to annoying for me. The noise at full speed (during and… Read more
immediately after a print job is awful, and even the slow speed for up to 10 minutes afterwards was so annoying that i have switched to another printer.
So if you like your printer within arms reach and need to concentrate in an otherwise quiet room, i would not recommend the Brother HL-2132.
ps and yes I did contact Brother support, and adjusted the sleep time settings, all to no avail. cheap, quick, good print quality, light weight Noisy, manual feed slot not very reliable
Talk about top quality and value for money!!!! – I absolutely love this printer! It puts Inkjets to shame! After 15 years of buying Inkjets, I finally found out how superior laser printers are. And this one only cost me $42 Very easy to set up and very us friendly. I don't find it noisy at all, and the print quality is excellent unlike smudgey inkjets! Well done brother! As far as that… Read more · 2
person knocking this printer, 500 pages every 2 months for a home printer is excellent! you wont get anywhere near that with an inkjet!, so stop winging over nothing! and mine takes in envelopes perfectly!
I highly recommend this printer without a doubt!!!! Very inexpensive, reliable, put's inkjets to shame in every way, top quality printing, and very economical

Cheap Printer but works fine! – This printer is a plain looking plastic box with a big paper tray. Printing large (A4 sized) photos looks nice but shows some banding issues. Document printing is clear and crisp. Perfect for the occasional print jobs at home but too noisy for an office environment. Crisp and real fast document/photo printing Fairly noisy and photo printing shows banding issues. Toner cart. for 1000 pages but a bit expensive.
I honestly don't buy this 1,000 pages per cartridge. We had a Canon LBP1210 which, in hindsight was… Read more (+2 replies)
This is my first laser printer - I'll never go back to inkjet – I didn't expect too much as the HL 2132 was very inexpensive at $43.97, but istallation was hassle-free, operation is simple and print quality is excellent. Fast and economical. A little noisy.
Cheap to run and comes with toner – I bought this printer at officeworks carnegie, the service was excelelnt, employee there suggested this printer ,it is economical to run and good for students ,and for those who print black and white printing,it also prints-20 page per minute and replacable toners are cheaper ,and also comes with a year warranty inexpensive , cheaper runningcost does not include a usb cable
