Workhorse – This is a great unit, seriously, for what I paid and what it's delivered ( which is page after page of black and white content ) I have never been more satisfied by a printer. After market toner is great at about $18 and guarantees me a few thousand more pages. I use it for invoicing, newsletters, printing out excerpts of books....labels...umm, yeah. Thanks Brother!  Show details

Very good Printer – I've had this printer now for over 3 years and hasn't ever let me down. The print quality is very good and quite fast. The price of the toner is reasonable too. I use mine for mainly just printing documents and emails. I have printed a number of graphics and photos on paper and found it to be quite satisfactory. A very good machine....only one jam and that was my fault.  Show details

A decent laser printer – I just needed a basic, efficient and cost-effective mono-chrome printer with a minimal feature set and this printer fit the bill. It does double-sided printing and the print quality is good for printing documents. Additionally, it also has wireless printing capabilities although this has not been problem-free for me but it can be made to work usually.

Fast printing, wireless works well – We've had our HL-2270DW for a couple of months now. As some of the others have said, the starter cartridge doesn't last long so buy an extra toner when you purchase your machine. They come in different sizes depending on how often you're willing to change it,and how much you want to pay. Set up was relatively easy. Several methods for wireless… Read more

connection are offered but we used the ethernet set up. This involves connecting the printer directly to your wireless router via an ethernet cable (which isn't supplied). You can also set it up by connecting the printer to the PC via a USB cable but again this cable isn't supplied. We've had no problems printing from anywhere in the house (which covers quite a large area). I've hooked up a Mac, a PC and a Windows Lap Top. Note that it is not Air Print compatible so if you want to print from ipad or iphone you'll have to download a 3rd party app.

The print quality for text is excellent, and the duplex function works well. Check your settings, ours was set to duplex by default (which you don't always want). We turned this off, then just check a box before printing if we want to print on both sides. Pictures don't come out as clear and don't even think about it for black and white photos. If you do a lot of image / photo printing you might be better off with an inkjet.

We bought this printer to use in addition to our Epson Photo R800 inkjet. It is much, much cheaper for black and white printing and gives excellent results for documents. Reliable, not too large on the desk, paper tray, cost effective Starter toner runs out quickly, set up can be a bit fiddly

Just works – Solid, reliable and quiet printer. Excellent speed, both for first and following pages. Auto duplexing works as expected and can be turned off by default (my preference) so that you only print duplex when specified in the print dialog. Works well with Linux and Windows, with the linux drivers easily found and installed from the Brother website. … Read more

Initially I had a problem with regular spots on the page, eventually found the solution on the Brother website - marks on the drum. A deep clean didn't help but removing the drum and cleaning it with a cotton swab solved it. The process for this was very clearly laid out by Brother.

Wireless setup via one click WPS mode was finicky to get going but reliable and solid once done. In retrospect I think it would be easier to configure by initially hooking the printer up via its ethernet port and configuring the wireless using the web interface.

The web interface is pretty basic - lets you configure its network settings and view the consumables status.

Quality of the prints, once I fixed the problem with the drum has been good - as others have said, great for text - crisp and sharp, but graphics look very average. Very fast to print. Sharing the printer via wireless has been quite liberating, no longer tethered to one PC and no juggling print shares or file transfers.

Stock toner replacements are pretty average in price but clone cartridges can be found very cheap online. Price per page is excellent. Reliable Wireless, Fast printing, Good looking text output, Duplex. Low cost per page. Wireless can be finicky to setup.

Wireless and Duplex at a reasonable price – The Brother HL-2270DW is a monochrome wireless capable printer that can also print two sides of the page at once. It produces crisp black text and is best suited to printing documents. Wireless printing is a must-have if you use laptops or an iPad. Double-sided printing cuts down on paper consumption. The printer is a bit on the bulky side for a… Read more

small printer so check its measurements before purchase. After overcoming the initial setup issues, I'm very satisfied with this products and have already purchased another one for a friend. Wireless, quick printing, clear text, double-sided printing, silent when off standby, reasonable price if you shop around. Photos prints are below average and its not recommended for this purpose. No USB cable, must be purchased separately. Fan noise evident on standby, but this can be fixed by setting the standby/sleep period to 1 minute via the web interface. Wireless setup can be tricky - find instructions on web for your operating system. On Macs, double-sided printing is not automatic but can be set in the OS X print dialog.
