I would give it no stars if I could - Buyer BEWARE – Unfortunately only 7 months after purchasing the printer it started to stop and start randomly with electrics cutting out. I had multiple chats, emails and phone call with Brother across a month, which I spent a great deal of time on, during which time I went through the same questions multiple times until they gave me their warranty repair shop details.

Then I was told that despite using this printer with a desktop I should take a laptop and prove to the repair people that I had the right software as if "they couldn't find anything wrong with it" they would charge me personally for the time spent checking it.

After 2 weeks at the repair shop parts are still coming from Sydney a "mother board" and a further part for electrical issues. This has been a major disruption for my business and I am still waiting for resolution.

I want to add I believe the repair shop has been doing its best to sort the issue.

It is one thing buying an almost $700 printer and having it not work within 7 months, but an even more frustrating problem when the company makes it so very difficult to get a printer (on a 2 year warranty) fixed. Very poor service and very unprofessional.

A multifunction inkjet printer that can do more than you need – We needed a new printer this year so I did some research on what could be the best multifunction all in one inkjet printer that I could get. There were quite a few different brands and models to choose from but the following list is what I required: - All in one (print/scan/copy/fax), although I don't have a need for fax so this isn't an important feature. - A3 colour copy and print - Wireless built in - Touch screen control - High yield ink - Good long warranty

So with these requirements, I dramatically reduced my choices to what is available. Once settled on the Brother J6945, I went shopping. I could not find it available in any physical store and almost every store didn't have it listed in their system to sell to me. So I was left looking for it online. I purchased it in February this year but due to availability anywhere in Australia, I did not receive the printer until the end of June. The box is big. Opening it, it is very well packaged in a convenient pull out plastic protective bag with handles. All accessories that were supposed to be supplied were in fact all there. Set-up was easy and straight forward. After plugging in the main power and taking off all the sticky tapes that hold the draws secure whilst in transit, I powered it up and followed the simple instructions in the supplied sheet of step by step guides. Topped up the paper and followed the initial setup on the front screen of the printer. The screen is bright and very easy to understand. It is a pretty display. As for connection, I only use the wifi mode of connection. No other cables are connected other than the power. I do not use fax. The 4 supplied ink cartridges come in individually sealed wraps; 1 black, 1 cyan, 1 yellow, and 1 magenta. The screen tells me how to insert those during setup. The first test print was almost spot on out of the box but not quite perfect in my case. So the printer gives an option to auto adjust something in its workings and I did let it do its thing and tested another print which then turned out perfect. Although the printer is reasonably quiet, I chose a setting to make it even quieter, but this setting is supposed to slow the printing process down. I didn't notice any slow down of the process and it still prints at super quick pace whilst still being quiet in operation. I mainly use the online portal through its own intranet web address to control and change all settings in the printer. It is easier this way for me. I set-up the email server to be able to scan any documents straight to my email inbox. I have added a few different email addresses into the printer for quick access so each job can be emailed to any email stored or entered on demand. Wi-fi connection has been flawless in the month of using it - never a drop-out and never having to reconnect. This model printer stores 2 trays of A4 paper. As i personally don't print too much A3, I don't store it in the printer but when I choose to print an A3 sheet, I just inset it into the rear tray feeder which you can also use as A4 if you choose. The few A3 colour spreadsheets I did print turned out more vibrant and clearer than when we print the same sheets out at work on their printer. I have not printed out photos on proper photo paper yet. But I have printed a full A4 regular paper colour printed photo. The image came out surprisingly good, and better than any other inkjet printer I've used. It also printed to a zero border image to cover 100% of the page. Black and white text documents are super quick and all text is clear and sharp. Scanning is very quick and the higher the resolution selected, the bigger the image and space required to store or send to email. Scans are high quality both from the glass scan bed under the lid and also through the document feeder above the lid for convenience and multi-page scanning. I have only come across just one issue with this printer. Once the printer has been sleeping and I want to print something from my phone or computer, I send the print demand to the printer and the printer does wake up. When I go to collect the printed sheet from the printer, the screen tells me that it does not detect paper in the main tray, although there is paper in there filled up to the max line. The print data does remain in the printer's memory so once I open and close the tray, the printer finishes off all print jobs in the queue. There is more memory to store print jobs than you'd ever need. Once the machine is in awake mode and ready to print, I have never had this problem. It's only when waking it from stand-by. This isn't even a problem that warrants dropping a star for. Just thought I'd point out any issue it has. Maybe there is a setting to control this issue. I have not gone through the whole settings list in depth so I can not be certain. 3 year warranty is better than most competing printers in the market. Replacement ink cartridges are reasonably cheap for the high yield they produce. The printer gives an up to date figure of approximate pages remaining to print before each colour ink runs out so you know when to replace individual cartridges. This printer is obviously high quality and built well. It has been flawless in every aspect apart from the smallest issue of waking it up and needing to open/close the draw. This is one printer I could recommend for the home or small business.
