I owned a canon printer for well over 10 years, never a problem ever. Then I turn st^pid and buy a Brother. The most brain bending machine I have ever owned. NEVER EVER again would I buy another Brother product again. Countless wasted hours. multiple phone calls to Brother for assistance again and again. Having to send stuff miles away to have it printed or scan as this machine wont work. Show details
THE WORST PRINTER I HAVE EVER OWNED! – From almost day 1 this printer caused problems. It intermittently failed to print, it failed to recognise FULL ink tanks, it printed blank pages and it refused to work via wifi with my laptop computer although it would work with my wife's laptop. Brother were never interested in doing ANYTHING to help sort out the issues and eventually blocked me… Read more
from their Facebook account because they didn't like me posting the long list of problems this printer caused. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BROTHER PRINTER. This thing is pure rubbish and a total waste of money. This morning it failed for the last time. I took it outside and threw it in the bin! I wish I could give it ZERO STARS.
Very disappointed – We bought this printer new. Printer keeps telling us that it can’t see genuine cartridges (magenta) and to reseat them slowly. This never works. So then we thought we’d use it as a monochrome printer and just print black and white pages only but it won’t do this unless it can see a full set of colour cartridges which is very disappointing and annoying. So all in all we just have a rather expensive and rather large scanner. Don’t recommend. Show details
Great printer for the price – I've had an excellent experience with this printer. It's not perfect, but, for the price, I reckon its pretty good. I've had it for about five years now and yes, it does use some ink (and the Brother ink isn't cheap) but its always produced good prints. I've used the scanning function often to create PDFs or drop something into Word; no problems.… Read more
I have had a few networking issues but these related mostly to my firewall. Once I worked through those the printing has been fine.
An honest to goodness investment. Very happy with it.
very disappointing from Brother – This printer continually has to clean clogged nozzles and goes through a lot of ink. I should of gone to a laser printer. This is the first brother printer I have been disappointed with. Show details
Good choice for home – We have had this for @ 2.5 years. What impress' me is that the printer heads & lines do not clog & seize if not printing regularly. So, if we go on holidays for 3 weeks, come back.... no hassles. Similarly, A3 is good value, but only use that option ~once / quarter. No hassles. Can print from mobile TF. Printing is good speed. Fast over a domestic Wifi. Scanning OK from a PC, or from the printer sent to a computer. Show details
Rubbish Printer - Never again! – Hands down THE WORST printer I have ever had. It has always been temperamental. First Tray 2 stopped working months ago, despite being regularly cleaned. Then Tray 1 threw a wobbly and would not print anything but standard copy paper, so I could not print name tags for my students. I've never experienced this problem before. Now, it's printing… Read more
blank pages from Tray 1. i've re-installed the drivers as advised, and NOTHING. I contacted a Brother Service company a few weeks before lockdown, never ever got a response. I have since contacted another Brother Service company who again couldn't be bothered responding. they must be making money hand over fist. I run a small business and this situation is intolerable. I won't be buying another Brother.....EVER.
Chews through ink – Ink costs a small fortune for this thing, and the rudest part is that it will tell you a particular ink is empty, but when you remove the old cartridge it's clear there is still ink in the damn thing. Show details
Brother Printer not worth the money – Easily one of the worst printer/scanner I have ever purchased.. Less than 3 months old and already chewed through more Ink compared to 12 months with a HP Printer. That's just the start, the software to access the Scanner drops out at least twice a week and the only fix is to restart your computer. The software is now completely useless, I can… Read more
print, but the Scanner option is GONE.. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the software 3 times to try and rectify but still not working. Brother phone support is non-existent and the online chat just suggested the uninstall and re-install option.. You couldn't pay me to buy another Brother printer..
Capable device but very frustrating interface – A3 multi-function printer/scanner/fax with duplex ADF scanner and A3 flatbed. Scanned colours are not true to life and far worse than our previous Epson multi-function. Scan to network feature is irritating and only allows five limited profiles. No ability to pre-set duplex into scan short-cut. Went through set of inks without printing anything because printer keeps using ink presumably to keep lines wet.
A great A3 all-rounder – Purchased to replace a Canon i9900 A3 inkjet printer that had finally reached EOL. First impressions weren't great. It looked to be a bit flimsy in construction and the paper output tray mounts over one of the two paper trays making access difficult. Having said that, it's been a great multi-function device. Scanning: it scans quickly to the… Read more
attached computer and has a great range of scanning options and will scan at 2400x1200 in duplex mode. It's not as fast as my Epson page scanner but the quality is better.
Printing: printing is crisp, fast and without any unwanted artefacts although it sometimes refuses to use the multi-purpose tray even when it's selected. Duplexing is smooth and effortless.
Pros: The dual paper trays plus multi-purpose tray give it a capacity of 600 sheets. It meets the claimed speed of 20ppm in colour. Scans are fast. It pairs easily with our phones. Consumable cost is reasonable at just under 12 cents per page (see below for more detail).
Cons: the occasional refusal to use the MP tray is frustrating when printing shipping labels.
On the subject of operating cost, it's about par for other similarly priced A3 MFC's that use 4 individual inks as these mostly fall in the 8 cents per page (Brother J5730/5930DW) to 18 cents per page (Canon Pixma TS9565) range. The only really low cost A3 MFC I am aware of is the Epson Workforce 16500 which uses refillable tanks and bulk ink but it's also 5x the price!
Update: 2024. After 7 years and a bit over 2.5k pages, this unit has now decided to stop feeding paper from the MP tray although the 2 inbuilt trays still work fine.
Cannot turn off Auto Detect rotation – As a small business we have used earlier versions of this machine for years. This one however has a new auto detect aspect when coping. When trying to copy small receipts filling up an A4 page size on the glass ( long but skinny each one ) for tax records, the printer automatically turns the image on the paper 90 degrees on A4 and cuts the bottoms… Read more
off. So try turning the receipts on the glass 90 degrees and copy again. Auto detect rotates the images 90 degrees the other way cutting the bottoms off again? Brother eventual technical fix is that we always have to place an A4 page page on top of the receipts? Never had to do this extra step before in our busy office. This time saving Auto Detect Feature is costing us time not saving time as most advances in products do. Time to look at a different printer supplier it seems. Fix: Would be to allow turning off auto detect aspect rotation or better detection software.
Issue 2: Randomly does this. Unit shows ready online with computer? Printer shows ready online with network ? Printer sees no computers attached? Fix: Turn printer off - Turn it back on . Printer works again until it does it again a few days to week later. Thanks
A perfect printer scanner – wireless inkjetprinter having a good quality prints. Easy to use and even my 8 year old son using it. very simple and safe. And I am very satisfied with the price. Can get copies easily. And its ink is easily available. Two trays for sheets. Its very hard for my highschool children without a highquality printer like this. Show details
Find out how Brother A3 Multi-Function MFC-J6930DW compares to other Printers
Know better, choose better.
Nowhere near as good as our previous (model MFC-J6710DW) but still good print quality – We bought this to replace our previous Brother printer MFC-J6710DW which had served us really well in our small office. For a number of years that printer had been used heaps without issue until end of June when it started to make a little squeaky noise and seemed to have problems picking up paper from the A4 tray. We had someone take a look at… Read more
it but it, however the service call failed to help us out as the problem re-started a day or two after the service, so the decision was made to replace it. The new J6930DW printer seems more 'flimsy and clumsy' in the A4 (top) paper tray department, although they have solved the problem of the previous printer throwing prints all over the floor the new design has an extension that can be pulled out to hold the printed pages in place only problem is it is hard to slide back in place when paper is replaced. The inks don't last anywhere near as long as the previous printer inks and the previous printer would allow us to go right down until the printer didn't have enough ink to print anymore, whereas this one makes demands and won't print until the unit is replaced. All in all I guess Brother weren't making enough money out of their inks so have decided all new model printers should suck up much more so they can benefit from the consumables. This is around 2 months down the track and we've all had a few issues with the printer not always doing what's expected & falling short of the old one's performance. Having said all that the print quality is very good, it is very quiet when operating (you can hardly hear it) and it's still cheaper to run than the Samsung CLP-620ND printer that sits idle most of the time beside it as those cartridges are SOOOOO expensive to replace - this still makes the Brother seem rather inexpensive by comparison and we did get a $100 cashback at the time of purchase :).
Brother - To Be Fair – Following up on my earlier review, after persistent follow up with Brother, I discovered that a new Customer Service person had been appointed. And to be fair..... it must be said that I had an excellent customer service experience and the replacement printer is working well. All the issues with the original printer are resolved. Thank you Ian!! Show details
