Brother MFC-8840D

Brilliant small to medium sized office workhorse – I have owned 2 of these machines for over 15 years. One has now done over 180,000 copies and both still work like new. First class copies, printer and fax. Replacement cartridges are cheap (only buy Brother branded and on ebay) and get over 6000 copies from a cartridge (ebay $60), and 20000 copies from drum (ebay $100). Two minor repairs over the years (both caused by cheap ink cartridges, now I only buy Brother branded replacements), brilliant print quality, easy to use and maintain, built like the proverbial brick outhouse, this machine is bullet proof. Only downside - fairly large footprint and heavy to lift. I was going to get a fancy multi-color print later model recently, but sales/repair shop told me "don't bother, they don't make them as good as yours anymore" Just brilliant!!!!

Good – I have owned this printer for about 3 years and it has been a workhorse. I rarely use the Fax, but it does work as advertised. I use the photocopy function weekly and it works well and handles enlargements easily. I occasionally use the scanner, but not often. I find the Mac software clunky and I have a Fujitsu scanner that is far superior. The toner is inexpensive and I have not had a minutes problem with the printer. I get an occasional jammed paper, but not too often. Overall a good value black and white multifunction laser. Multifunctions all work well and yields high quality copies Big and noisy
Good – This is an excellent black and white laser printer with combined scanning/fax functionality. Well priced for small businesses who need to produce high-quality black and white documents. Well-priced, reliable, produces excellent quality printouts. It takes up a lot of room in a small home office, is a little noisy during operation and doesn't have a very user-friend button layout.
OK – This is a sturdy reliable printer complete with Facsimile, Copy, Scan, Print, excellent Enlarge and Reduce Functions. It can double as a photocopier and has a duplexing function. The ink cartridge does around 6000 pages with the drum needing to be replaced every 20,000 or so pages. USD, and Ordinary printer port compatible makes it easy to link to several computers without networking.
Because it is a heat drum type machine paper can crinkle and get jammed more often that I would like. Using duplexing the paper jams or scrunching occur more often.
This is a strong workhorse machine for a busy office. Sturdy reliable black and white mutli function machine. Duplexing Bulky, Prone to paper jams, Single paper feed system
