Grrrrrrrrrrr – I’ve been persevering with this thing for years, thinking I was doing something wrong and paying stupid amounts for ink refills. It has to be the bulkiest, ink hungry monster I’ve ever met in my life. You pay $120ish for a new set of ink only to get “can’t print alerts” when the ink is still 1/3 full. Right now I have a message saying the wrong… Read more
colour ink is installed whilst I’ve been printing fine for weeks. I absolutely hate this machine for the stress and expense it’s caused me. It’s old now and will be dying an appropriate death via axe!!
Avoid. Not worth the money – Avoid avoid avoid. This printer is a heap of crap. Even without any colour prints, and still with ink left in them, the cartridges are suddenly declared empty and the printer refuses to print any more. Even with a full black cartridge, it won’t print in b&w without new colour cartridges. The latest software updates means than only outrageously… Read more
expensive Brother cartridges can be used. The scanning is quick but only one-sided, even if some of the publicity lets you think it does 2 -sided scanning. My advice is to buy by another brand that does not rip off its customers.
JUNK PRINTER – Hardly ever Works , Ink still Full , But won't Work saying Ink Empty , I have a Bag Full of Cartridges Full of Ink , Some only 1 week Old , Blue is the Worst. Blue it Said , Well Best of Luck with that , Todays Printers Are JUNK & there getting away with it , But this time Ringing the Ombudsman , Ive Had It .... Show details
Ink eater – After 4 years of work with this printer, we spent thousands of dollars on the original ink cartridges. Now this printer wants new cartridges two times a week so we lodge an investigation with Brother to give us a replacement machine. The quality of the printing is not great. Show details
Ink 'Evaporates' Says Brother Technical Support – Quite possibly the worst machine I have ever bought. I've had lots of printers: dot matrix, inkjet & laser. This is the worst. Couldn't set it up with wired connection, instructions indecipherable (beyond my 30 yrs IT & cabling expertise apparently :) Still it worked wirelessly, so what the hell. Scans & copies well for a retired couple with a… Read more
smallish but consistent amount of paperwork to do. One would have thought the ideal environment for a printer. Certainly suited all the previous ones. But not the 'Big Brother'. However it was all gold until the magenta & black inks suddenly 'ran out', after a few weeks use and very little if any colour printing. I say apparently, cos Brother then told me to take them out, turn the machine off & on again, then reinsert. Magically both the black & magenta were back to nearly full! So we hadn't used the ink at all?! But then the magenta 'ran out' again after a couple weeks. I ignored it cos I don't need it. Exclamation went to a cross on display. Same trick won't work again (possibly software setting?) And it seems to still have ink in it? How could it possibly run out? Have printed no full colour pages at all in the entire ownership period. Maybe the odd highlighted word or hyperlink? But the black, which we use almost exclusively, is still nearly full?! Brother now says replace magenta. How could we possibly have used it I ask Brother? Oh, it 'evaporates and gets used in print head cleaning' whether you use it or not, says Brother. Well I don't need colour so I took magenta cartridge out. Now it won't print at all unless I put a replacement in! I'm not paying $34 EACH per cartridge for three colours that immediately start to 'evaporate'. If I use them then fine, happy to pay. But I'm not pouring money into Brother's poor design. I've decided I simply can't afford a printer which requires regular replacement of ink that I don't use. If I have to spend more on ink in six months than the printer cost, then I'll buy one that's < $100 thanks! And if I'm going to put that much plastic rubbish (& leftover ink?) into the environment then I might as well throw cheaper printers away more often. I will attempt to return.
Tech support Blows!!!!!!! – Whilst most companies have a COVID plan Brother clearly leaves their customers in the cold just like Corona! I used to be able to call support and speak to an agent, now they have some bot answering questions rather hopelessly like Google... when you do get to live chat, it's either unavailable or ridiculously busy and no call back feature. If… Read more
Cannon, EPSON, HP, and other have call support why do you continue to leave clients out in the cold????????????????????????Not expecting an answer because their service BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Expensive to run – I bought this printer about 2 years ago. Was easy to set up, has all the features needed at home for tertiary study and kids school work. However, after putting at least 4 new ink packs into it(all colours)and only printing about 1500 pages I'm not happy at all. Just replaced with a full new pack of brother cartridges and now it's not registering… Read more
M, C, Y at all. I've spent almost 3 times the amount on ink than I payed for the printer to print around 1500 pages, mostly In monochrome except for kids assessments. Very dissatisfied with is printer. I've owned brother mfc's before this one and never missed a beat but this model I have found terrible. Sorry brother, you've lost me.
Planned obsolescence – Brother multifunction printer worked fine for years, then all of a sudden it disconnected itself from the WiFi and refused to reconnect. Even after moving house, it could see WiFi networks on the next street, but refuses to connect to anything nearby (suspect). So I plugged it in by USB and started using it as a corded printer. Then a few weeks… Read more
later it decided that the brand new $130 pack of cartridges in it has an empty yellow (required for all printing including black and white). You can even take the cartridge out and see the full ink tank and the genuine Brother insignia. So I need to buy a new Brother printer to use the $100+ worth of ink I just bought. In the bin where it belongs.
No double sided scanning – This printer/scanner is slow and not having the option to 2 sided scanning is very poor. Very frustrated and disappointed. Do not waste your time and money with this product. Show details
Brilliant – Low cost low ink usage 100% reliable in a small office and easy to use. Never misses a beat with wifi hookup so it’s everything a small business will ever need in a printer Show details
So far - 100% perfect – I bought this in March to prepare for teaching remotely from home - in particular, I needed an A3 scanner to photocopy textbook resources etc. to scan and send to the kids. It is big, but that is necessary for A3 capabilities. Set up was straightforward, but you did need to follow the instructions (took around 15-20 minutes including updates).… Read more
The only problem was that it asked for a password for the update, and a Google search showed me such passwords are usually something like "initpass" (which worked).
Everything has worked perfectly for the last 6 weeks - it scans and prints beautifully, and the time between pressing the button on my computer and the machine to react is close to instantaneous.
Also, although I needed to install software for my Windows laptop, my Mac worked with NO installation at all! After I set up my printer, all I had to do was locate it on my Mac and print!
I am a light user, but so far, after 6 weeks, it is perfect and I have no complaints. Excellent product.
Good start, but disappointed – Bought this to replace an earlier similar model Brother A3 flatbed scanner/printer. Very similar in operation, but unfortunately: 1. The control icon is "Control Centre 4". It is located within a "Utilities" shortcut which can be placed on the desktop/icon tray. a. It is not possible to create a shortcut of CC4, which makes it a 2-step operation… Read more
to use b. Within CC4, it is necessary to take 2 (further) steps to scan, rather than the single step with the previous version (Control Centre 3) Too much of my time wasted 2. The flat bed placement of the document used to be landscape (ie the long side of A4 was across the top of the glass); it is now portrait (long side is along the L/H side of the glass). When scanning to pdf, the resulting pdf has to be half-turned to be able to be read. That means an extra step, every time, to adjust it to a readable perspective for which you need further software. Really, really, irritating. Thank goodness for Adobe Acrobat editing functions, but 0/10 to Brother for this further waste of my time. Other than that, it is a great machine. Trouble is, the previous one (DCP 6690CW) was better. One hopes for constant improvement, not one step forward and two steps back.
This printer has so many issues - no longer works with Mac now as well – This printer has been a nightmare since out of the box. Won't connect to wifi, now the software is no longer compatible with Mac and Brother have released a statement saying they will no longer support Mac with this model. Have owned for 12 months and throwing it out because of how much of a pain it is. Prints pretty well, good speed. Just the… Read more
connectivity and scanning is useless. Scanning automatically flips the pdf no matter which way you put it on the flatbed or ADF. You can change settings to try and work around this, but often it will flip it again or crop the image. Brother offers no tech support too.

Worst machine - total waste of money – I spend hours trying to convince this printer to do simple things. Print a single piece of paper? Nah, only going to print 2/3 of the page so I waste ink, paper and time reprinting the stupid thing. Can't print more than 1x A3 page at a time, cant even put more than one into the slot or it will try and print over multiple a4 pages. Constantly have… Read more
black ink all over pages. Find it easier to print one copy then photocopy each time. No troubleshooting options, will just say error and let you figure it out. I beg you, don't waste your money!
This is by far the worst printer I have ever owned – Unless you want sporadic and very small volume printing this is not the printer for you! I was told by Officeworks staff that this would be a great printer for my small business. Not so. I spend half of my time re-feeding paper, dealing with continuous paper feed issues etc that I now actually loathe having to use the stupid thing, however I… Read more
cannot afford to get just another printer so I have to make do with this malformed creature of a machine. I have wasted countless pieces of paper with the printer just jamming them up so I have to use MORE paper and it takes demonstrably LONGER than my previous printer which was fabulous, (I had very few issues with it but unfortunately is no longer made anymore). I struggle on a daily basis to convince the printer it is actually connected to my computer - it is connected via hardwire so when I am told about 6 times a day that the printer is not connected, I have issues believing it. I have taken the cord out and put it back in more times than I care to remember, yet I keeps having issues until It decides it wants to actually acknowledge the hardwired connection to my computer. I could not be more unhappy with a printer if I tried. Also, it has a massive footprint so it takes up a stupid amount of my reception area's desk space. I would be happy to swap bench space for a good quality printer which does not cost me at least 15 minutes, most times demonstrably more, every time I consider printing anything in my business. I absolutely hate this machine.
Total workhorse if you have the space for it – When this arrived I kind of freaked out as it's a big unit- way bigger than the printer I had BUT I also had no end of trouble with that also hence the upgrade. The Brother was easy to set up, is a breeze to use and so fast for scanning and printing. If you need a serious workhorse this is a great printer. Ink I got through Ink Station for $40. Very happy with it Show details
Wow am impressed by this $201 printer – I bought this Brother MFC-J6530DW because it could print and scan/copy A3 as I'm in the process of building a house and architect plans were easier to read in A3 rather than shrunken A4. Gotta say I'm impressed. But be warned - Windows 10 did not have the drivers for this printer even after I updated the drivers through Microsoft. I had to go… Read more
directly to the Brother website to specifically download the J6530 drivers. Do yourself a favour and save the installation time by doing this rather than mucking around with generic drivers (I did this because I don't have a CD reader on my laptop). What impressed me next was the ability to print from my mobile smartphone - that did take a bit of setting up (had to download the Brother iPrint and Scan app to my phone) but it worked. Same as the send to an email address to print the attachment - that worked. I got to warn you though it does help if you have some knowledge of IT so maybe it was a bit easier for me to get the issues I encountered resolved - I suspect if I had relied on the Quick Start Guide - I'd still be scratching my head wondering why I could not print. I set it up over my wired LAN but can still print over WiFi okay (as my router is connected to the printer). Print quality is good - not a good as say getting Kwikcopy to do it for me - but hey only paid $201 for it (with free shipping - had to do a double take on that as I expected a fee for shipping). I bought from an on-line retailer. Foot print is a bit large as it can scan and photocopy directly A3 - so have a large desk spot for it. It's not that heavy - I lugged it up 1 flight of stairs by myself. I could fit the box it came in the back of my Ford sedan (had to pick it up from delivery depot because shipping company kept missing me). Only had it for 1 day - I may update this review after I've run it for a several months. I also bought this printer because Brother LC ink cartridges were less expensive than HP and although expensive still at least affordable. I guess that's where most printer companies make their money now - from selling ink ... LOL
Much better than I expected – This printer has been great so far. Connection to the network is reliable receives commands and prints very quickly. For a simple somewhat boring design they did put a nice sound on the machine (I enjoy the odd gimmick). There are also loads of extras to download onto the printer itself if you got time to play around. The only issue is the print… Read more
feed is single sided, but I new that when I got it (extra $70 aud for double side). The colours are pretty good for an office printer but nothing compared to a dedicated photo printer. The gradients are not as smooth e.g. black to blue has a few bands.
I have scanned about 700 pages so far and only had the paper pull through on an angle once but they had been folded previously.
I am also still on the starter ink and printed quite a bit at least 200 pages and have quarter ink left.
So far so good.
Great printer for home office – I recently bought this machine as an upgrade for my home office and I'm very happy with it. It connects wirelessly to my computer or phone without any issues. printing quality is very good if it's documents, not that great with photos but I don't mind. It's fast, quiet and easy to use. Great value for money. Definitely recommend it :) Show details
