Worst customer service! Not only is the printer a waste of money but the worst part is that dealing with Brother is a complete waste of time! All they do is gather your data and then don't give you any assistance. I would NEVER buy any Brother product again.

Total built in obsolescence! After using it for one year, get a message to replace waste toner box, I do this as well as clean inside, but still getting the same error message. Regardless of what I do the machine will not operate and insists I replace a brand new waste toner box. This is a machine which still has $5-600 worth of toner inside it. NEVER GET A BROTHER PRINTER! Show details

I Love This Brother Printer – I have only good things to say about this printer. Easy installation and was up and ready in the blink of an eye. Clear printing and no problems. This printer replaces another brand home printer that I had for many, many years. I bought the colour version just in case on the rare occasion I need to print in colour, but it is there if I need it. Show details

Garbage Installation Software - Great Hardware – DO NOT buy a Brother printer - Brother CANNOT write software ! If not for windows finding the printer on my network as a wifi printer it would simply be a lump of plastic.... I should have returned the printer to Office works as it is imposible to get anything more than winsows print out of it. The Brother installation software does not work - It… Read more

is impossible to find & setup the printer !

Finding the IP address is way to hard - I dont know how to do this.... I should not have to do this !! Why in this day and age can't Brother write software or build hardware that talks to each other ?? Brother - You should get better software people

The recent software has made compatible toner cartridges redundant – I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the recent firmware upgrade on my Brother printer. Since the upgrade, I have had the printer not fit for purpose, with the compatibility of third-party cartridges that were previously working seamlessly. I understand that firmware updates are necessary for enhancing performance and security, but the… Read more

recent upgrade has negatively impacted the functionality of non-Brother cartridges. I have chosen Brother products for their reliability and efficiency, and I am disappointed that the upgrade has compromised the use of compatible cartridges.

These problems started immediately after the firmware update, and despite my attempts to troubleshoot and reinstall the cartridges, the issue persists.

I would appreciate it if Brother Printers could address this matter urgently and provide a solution to restore the compatibility of third-party cartridges with the recent firmware. I value the reputation of Brother Printers and believe in the company's commitment to customer satisfaction.

It would be unacceptable if BMW asked me to only use a certain type of Tyre or they would sabotage my car and make it unusable.

Love this printer – I got this printer to replace my previous one as wanted something that was an all in one and this does the job. Has 4 different cartridges that can be replaced as needed and prints quite quickly. I use this at home for any work-related documents and my children use it for all their assessments. So far I can't complain - it fits nicely on my… Read more

desk, has a scanner, inbuilt fax (although we don't have a fax line to use this function). The scanner has a top feed and the bottom lift tile tray which is great as not everything can go through the roller tope feed and easy to play things on the lower tile tray/

It has the ablity to scan to an email, a computer, a usb along with many other options - these are the only 3 I have tried.

So far it has worked great for what our little family has needed and can't complain.

I regret buying it. clearly I am not alone – [edit ... TROUBLESHOOTING TIP: I hope you dont own this slow clunker , but if you do, when troubleshooting a brother error code like "TS-04" (whcih can be totally incorrect by the way) , instead of spending hours and changing your authentication and encryption on your wifi router, as the error code and support pages suggest, just reboot your wifi… Read more

network and power cycle the brother printer and attempt again to connect to your network, make sure WLAN is turned on at the bottom of the screen on your printer screen - for some reason it can just turn itself off - and select your SSID and enter your passowrd VERY carefully) . solved it for me. if it doesnt, look up the error code and instructions for yoru brand of wifi for "WPA2 and WPA3 security" and switch to WPA2 if you had WPA3 enbaled and see if it helped, but DO NOT do that unless you have to, or know what you're doing, as you're downgrading your network security).

THE REVIEW: Mostly it prints OK, but there are too many drawbacks and last week it failed totally after 2 years light domestic service (I paid about $300 for the mainboard to be replaced). I thought is was the power supply ( I looked up lots of troubleshooting tips which said to unplug and hold power of button for 15 seconds to do share reset - but that trick doesnt work).

my NEGATIVES are listed before the POSITIVES for this review:

NEG-so slow to print and spool. NEG-if one of 4 toner cartridges is empty the whole things goes on strike. not even Black and White printing allowed. It's DESIGNED this way. So you are totally stuck if you don't have toner on hand and have urgent printing. Massive, massive drawback. because you need to be bale to print someitme,s even if the result isnt perfect. someitmes you just NEED a printout.... my HP printer lets be print in "only blakc and white" and ALSO lets me print faded grey pages at the end of toner life, as it should. NEG-harder/slow to replace toner than any laser I have used before. its the only prointer that has shed toner powder, when i am doing it right. quality of some cartridges mean they leak all over the place. my "bad one" was yellow. NEG-bundled printing software mediocre and slow on android. it basically is useful for printign a web page, bevase it loads its own terible broswer that makes a 2 page document into a large print 10 page doc. bizaar.

NEUTRAL - no duplex scanning - as documented - but to be honest this is essential. There were no HP printers in stock at officeworks when i needed urgently to buy a laser, so I had to go for this as it was urgent purchase. big regret.

POS. print quality seemed acceptible , as is build quality. heavy solid unit. durable, so thats one thing i definetely cannot fault. so it deseres 2 stars...

POS. kids found it very easy to CONNECT and PRINT from their iphones. No one else finds it slow or annoying as they don't have much experience with laser printers.... they dont know any better. my office life depdns on easy use and interface with this though, hence my huge frustation. POS. faster and better than a bubblejet. At least the paper is dry when it's printed. yep. I'm looking for positives... time to stop.

Great Printer Easy Setup – It was a bit heavy to get upstairs to my office but I did manage. While following the instructions closely, it took me about 30 minutes to get the printer setup and running. My iPhone automatically connected. Using it is very straight forward. Printing is clean and crisp. I am very satisfied with this printer so far. Show details

Sinking feeling - Brother let me down – Updated to add: Not only doesn't it copy in duplex but you can't scan double sided either. What an expensive piece of rubbish. I wish I had read these reviews first but I have been using Brother printers for years and years. After the death of my MFC I thought I would get a Brother MFC to go with my Brother laser HL L3230 and just trusted the… Read more

Brother. The biggest disappointment is that to copy double sided to double sided you have to do it MANUALLY!!! Yes you read right, let's all turn our clocks back ten years and do manual double sided printing. If I wanted to do manual double sided printing I would have used my cheap canon printer..... and not paid all this money for one with an Automatic Document Feeder. Shame on you Brother. I haven't had it long enough to rate toner use etc... probably won't have it for much longer. Might go to the tip. That is all it is good for since a lot of my work is copying. No more brother for me. Such a sinking feeling.

Lacks ability to scan directly to email – Does not support scanning to email server (SMTP) Whilst the printer claims to support the SMTP protocol - it doesn't where it counts - in the addressbook as a scan target. There is some support for scanning to email via brother cloud services, but this is not an acceptable solution for all environments. The configuration of the addressbook is unintuitive, even from the web-based interface. Lacks explanatory text on screens. Show details

Just Too Many Problems – Purchased first unit august 2020, replaced November 2020. Service on line is not acceptable, spending hours attempting to supply manufacturer with data. Follow instructions but average user is not a technician and brother are abrogading their responsibility. Show details

Extraordinary colour laser printer, copier, scanner for the price – This is a small (in size) MFP = copier, printer, scanner and fax that can deliver beautiful colour results. The machine support all type of connectivity's, at home, I have it connected to my network via WIFI. My Windows laptop prints via WIFI and my desktop via Cable. I installed the Brother iPrint & Scan app to my Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra phone… Read more

and so far printing from it is a click away, (I have not use the scanning feature yet from my phone but I have scanned some 50 years old photos directly from the auto scan facility on the printer and I was amassed at the quality that I got, of course, because the age of the photos I used "In Pixio" photo editor to finish up with a fantastic result. Another beauty, is the printer takes heavy stock cardboard paper, very handy to pruduce diplomas and certificated for my soccer club. All in all, a fantastic printer for every small or home office. Note: Please note that for 30 years I worked at Rank Xerox, Xerox and Fuji Xerox in printers and copier, I have no association with Brother, if at all, Brather was one of my small competitor when I worked for Fuji Xerox.

Good Printer for the Home Office – I've had this printer for about 9 months now and overall am very happy with it. It is used by the family primarily for document printing with the occasional scanning and copying thrown in. The print quality is great and the printer is definitely fast enough for our use. Note that laser printers in general (including this one) are not the best… Read more

choice if you are looking to print a lot of photos. The quality from a photo lab will be much better and cost less.

Pros: * We can print from any PC, laptop or phone on our home network * Having the colour output is worth it when you need it * Display and controls are clear and easy to follow * On the one occasion I contacted Brother for support they were very helpful * Auto-duplex printing - this is so great after years of manually turning paper over to print on the other side

Cons: * The upfront cost is more than a printer alone * Toner cartridges from Brother are expensive but third party ones give the same output for half the price * Physically, this is a large device but even so, it is one of the smaller MFCs available

Would I buy it again? Yes I would.

average quality until warranty expires, then rubbish – Bought printer in April 2020, average print quality, but knew and accepted those standards when I purchased it. 13 months later, 1 month after warranty expired, it overheats and jams 90% of the papers it prints. Tried 3 different brands and reams of paper, it was the printer. Very poor for the $397 cost at Officeworks. Will not trust either company again if I can avoid it. Show details

I've had nothing but problems with the quality, output and software of this Printer – A complete waste of money. The support I received is almost non-existent and the consumables are constantly defective. The software options are minimal and the quality below any standard I've ever seen. Show details

Don't bother wasting your money – If you are looking for a quality printer that will support you (or your business) for a long time then don’t waste your time and money on this Brother printer. The reliability deteriorates after the warranty period of 1 year due to cheap mechanical components. This is another example of a company that produces low quality items which creates an… Read more

Shameful!

Remember the times when things were built to last and were reliable for as long as you want to use them? Time for a change in many ways...

Held to ransom by Brother – I have discovered (45 minutes ahead of a court conference) that my printer won't work AT ALL if one of the colour cartridges needs to be replaced. Brother has clearly thought this through - a great money maker for them because people are forced to buy cartridges they may not need at over $100 per unit. Absolutely appalling.

Good print quality, expensive consumables, and limited Brother software options – This is the first Brother printer I have purchased, having owned Canon inkjet multifunction printers prior. I was happy with the speed of the printer and scanner, and the print quality. Looking at the price of consumables, they appear quite high. However one thing that used to be a little annoying about inkjets was that they used ink even when… Read more

not printing anything. That doesn't seem to be an issue with this laser / LED printer, so this is a plus.

I am disappointed at the Brother software options that come standard with this printer. I want to scan my photo albums, however Brother appear to have disabled the autocrop feature in their ControlCentre4 for this printer, meaning that you have to manually crop scanned photos. When I contacted Brother support, they advised me my only option would be to purchase third party software, Surely a better option would be for Brother to enable the autocrop feature that already exists in their ControlCentre4 software. Each of my earlier Canon printers had autocrop, which I assumed was standard now across other brands. Unfortunately Brother don't see it that way.
