BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 11.0kW

My BYD solar battery saved me! – Three days before Christmas 2023, Jason from Globe Electrical Solutions in Brisbane, added a BYD (11KWh HVM) solar battery to the solar system he had installed a few months earlier. It was the best decision I made because the electricity grid at my place went down in the Christmas storm. It stayed down for 6 days. My 10.5kW solar array with Fronius GEN 24 hybrid inverter and 11kWh BYD solar battery meant that my 6 day off grid experience was much more comfortable than the ‘camping at home’ approach I had used for 27 years. I used my home appliances as needed. I was able to run my 7.1 kW split system air conditioner – really helpful when the storm was followed by heatwave days of 37 and 38 degrees. I chose Jason from Globe Electrical Solutions after a (very fussy) friend used and recommended him. I got expert advice from a qualified and experienced solar electrician and a quality installation. I wanted my solar to run when the grid was down - to power my home and to charge my BYD solar battery for night use and do that daily until the grid was up again. And … that’s exactly what it did. And each day, the BYD battery means I can use my own solar at night. Most days, I draw only 0.1kWh from the grid. I had initially planned to delay my battery purchase for a year, but news of likely increased instability in the power grid as QLD transitioned to renewables and more extreme weather events (and longer reconnection times as I live in a less densely populated part of SE QLD) changed my mind.
