Difficult connectivity, rubbish print cartridges and expensive. So disappointed with this and I'm now finally throwing it in the bin, which I should have done a long time ago. Waste of money buying this printer. I can’t use full black ink just to print back and white just because other colour ink is not sufficient. I don’t know why they put almost similar letters before number 2160 which makes salesman and buyer confused and send/show the different item.
Keep away. Trying to be innovative with printers! – Got $500 of extra cartridges. Then ink parts couldn’t be cleaned by anyone but cannon. Discontinued. Only couple years old. Absolutely despicable. Shame on you. Show details
Rubbish, useless printer – Printer keeps telling me to replace the ink, even after I replaced everything. Print 5-6 papers in black but somehow all coloured ink has ran out. Total and Complete Junk – I've now owned the Canon MB2160 for 12 months. I've been a fan of Canon printers for years but this one has destroyed my affection for them. It splodges ink, cost per page is high an it constantly requires print head cleaning. Cartridge replacement is a nightmare because of the system that Canon has. It's in the bin today! Show details
Piece Of Crap – Replaced the cartridges twice in 1 year - even though we've probably only printed half a dozen pages. Have never printed anything in colour - but apparently today it's out of yellow, magenta & nearly out of cyan. Hit print and go cook dinner. How can Canon get it soooooo wrong!! – The slowest printer I have ever owned. I am a very patient person but really. . . to change a cartridge and have time to mow the lawn before it finishes its pre-print workout?? Come on!
impossible---dont get it – It works now and then, of course. You somehow have to understand its mood. warning that you cant put an old cartridge back in, or it probably wont work. Meanwhile, a helpful child pulled out the magenta cartridge and replaced it, which means I have to get a new magenta cartridge, but that mightnt work anyway. And I understand that very few printer cartridges can be refilled.This is such a bad situation. It means that we are tied to Canon forever. Cannot any regulator sort this out? I think it woud be reasonable to buy your printer,buy one set of cartridges, and be able to refill them. I note also that Officeworks have stacks of refill packages, but they work for very few printers, and you have to be good at reading fine print.

cards since early on when I got this printer - so that doesn't sit well with me at all. When I was able to make the cards, way too much colour ink was being used on them & I couldn't find any way to cut down the colour, which would've made the cards look much better also, but it seems there had been NO thought about people wanting to alter this & that, especially to tone down colours, etc, when making this particular printer. For well over 12 months, I haven't been able to use the printer, once it ran out of the colour inks & the whole time I was using it with those inks, none of the copies were readable, especially recipes, with ingredients missing all over the place & also the method. A couple of weeks ago I was finally able to afford to replace the inks, only to have the same problems, with not one page printing correctly & totally messy. Constantly getting error messages, especially when I try to start the printing. I am so over even trying with it. I am now going to go out & buy a new one, as much like my previous little grey one, as I can find.

The worst printer I've ever purchased – This thing is horrible. Takes forever to decide if it wants to print. The paper tray is way more complicated than it needs to be and Canon's support is non-existent. Avoid this piece of rubbish. 10/11/2020: A further update on this piece of junk. that the job is complete. It also refuses to print in black and white even after a replacing one of the over-priced black ink tanks. In other words, one of the colour cartridges has run down (in double-quick time I might add) and even though the print job does not require it, I still have to replace it before it decides to budge.
Shame on Canon for releasing this joke of a printer onto the market.
31/08/2021: Final update (The Rest In Peace edition). Well this piece of overpriced plastic decided to go offline for the last month for no apparent reason so I did what was best and destroyed it beyond repair. Possibly the most fun I've had in a long while was tossing it off my 1st floor balcony and onto my driveway (pics attached for those who hate Canon as much as I now do). My throw was a good one, I lobbed the beast high into the air to maximise it's height and therefore increase the velocity of its descent. When it landed with a loud crack on the pavement I delighted in the fact that it had actually bounced in the direction of my wheelie bin - almost like it was begging to be put out of its misery. A final kick to its side made sure no other human being would suffer the pain of owning this Canon printer again.
The printers final stats were: Total pages printed: 528 (wow- that's just over 1 ream of paper!) Total pages scanned: 48 Dollars spent on cartridges: $169.00 Total bounces off the driveway: 2
So it's now time to say rest in peace my MB2160 - enjoy your time in the firescapes of hell!
PS: I guarantee you I will never buy another canon printer again in my life!

some serious unsuccessful cleaning on the head, decided to bin it and get a replacement. Setting up was a breeze; I use Linux/Ubuntu and there are suitable drivers for all systems. Everything worked out of the box, except USB printer lead from my PC. Network fine. Turns out my old eyes deceived, I put the plug into phone socket, not USB socket (well it fitted just fine).
Dislikes: Some weird things didnt work like Print from Gthumb no, but others yes. Using pendrive USB pdf or images, it has no error message if the drive is NTFS, it just gives the standard message about no images; very non-intuitive; you must format pendrive to Fat32 for it to work. It doesnt like PDF files unless they are made by a Canon software, and will not recognise .png which is defacto standard for image files. Others mention, and I agree, this printer likes to self clean. My Brother self cleaned, but no where near the regularity of the Canon. This wastes ink and is overkill IMHO.
I like and recommend this printer (if you have the space for it). If you are to use non-standard inks, ensure colours are all pigmented. There are many generic cartridges which either have all dye, or 1 pigment black the rest dye. If dubious about generic, use Canon inks.
By the way, having read the other 1-star reviews they are suspect. Ive received good support from Canon NZ, and if the printer is too complicated, then there is an excellent manual. This is not a home printer, its and office printer with heaps of options. I did everything without reading the manual hence plug in wrong hole!
Endnote - Ive found a few foibles with the printer - a new one is Direct Connect seems not to work when in sleep mode eg it wont wake up. However, the good points over-ride the bad, and Ive purchased another one for our 2nd house.

printer for 2 months now and have had no problems with it, print quality is very good, although i dont print pictures mainly documents, haven't replaced any cartridges yet. Alright I have just put in new cartridges after 3 months got them from the Inkman $68 for the 4 delivered so that's not too bad, still no problems with it.
BETTER OF AS A WHEEL CHOCK – Worst printer I have ever used . Took nearly a week to print a single sheet , doesn’t want to print and tells me it needs an update all the time . Buy a new printer if runs out of ink but don't buy another canon – Replacement cartridges cost 2/3 price of the printer. Recognised a replacement cartridge but didn't let ink flow so heads dried out - tried to clean and now Error B504 - i have replaced 2 (FULL) ink cartridges with no success. Cant get out of error. Worst most inefficient printer I have ever owned – Slow to start. Each $100 ink refill will print about 100 pages if you are lucky. Drinks ink. Will not accept no canon ink refills. Will not scan when an ink tank has run out. Will not print B&W when any of the colour tanks are empty. Forces you to refill colour ink even if you NEVER print in colour. I hate this printer and when I wrote to Canon I never got any reply. Ill never buy another Canon printer. Show details

You will die of old age before it starts to print after you switch it on – The good - Easy to set up / Decent quality for print and photos / Relatively easy to operate The bad - Expensive cartridges / EXTREMELY SLOW to warm up and start printing (you actually feel yourself aging before it starts to print) / Do NOT turn power off to printer (as I accidentally did one time) as it is a real pain to get the printer working… Read more
