I’ve had this printer for years and while it prints every time the colours are never correct. If I want something to be printed in correct colour I need to perform at least 2 deep cleaning sessions and it’s still not perfect. Once I’ve fixed the issue I might print 2 or 3 pages and then a couple of days later the same problem occurs. Show details

It's Discontinued! What a Surprise! – Owning this printer has been incredibly disappointing and frustrating, making it one of the most regrettable purchases of my life. I have resolved never to purchase another Canon product. The print quality has consistently been subpar, causing immense dissatisfaction. On top of that, I have dealt with incessant error messages and frequent,… Read more

perplexing firmware updates. The countless hours wasted troubleshooting this woeful machine are something I can never retrieve. Furthermore, it lacks essential features like double-sided printing and a USB cable connection, leaving me helpless if the Wi-Fi is down and unable to directly connect my device for printing. The mere thought of this printer brings tears to my eyes, and I eagerly anticipate the cathartic release I will feel when I discard it in the recycling bin at Bunnings.

Breaks Down Left, Right & Centre – Very expensive printer. Pain to set up, never printed anything correctly. Always 1 colour missing or wrong, got an error code every week. Cannot believe Canon would sell something like this! Show details

The most frustrating piece of equipment I've ever purchased – I feel like I need an IT degree just to set it up. Still not finished and have now learned it does not print double sided. Beyond disappointed. I feel like I have purchased the cheapest printer available despite spending $500!!! Show details

Same fault as everyone else! Terrible printer both in function and quality. RESET SOLUTION HERE – We bought this printer to replace a 7 year old Canon printer multifunction. The G4600 printer has the build quality of a wet tissue. The non backlight screen is from a 1980's calculator and the plastic would rival a paper straw. Clearly something has to give for getting more value from the ink cartridges. It printed ok for the first year, then… Read more

head clean required. Not once but 2 or 3 times followed by the system clean that dumps most of your ink and fills the pads ready for the dreaded 5B00 message. You can clear the error message in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ6m6Yrdg2k) which I have done, but I suggest if you have this printer you should just put it in the bin and buy something else. I have spent more time in front of this printer trying to make it work than I have breathing oxygen. I bet there are a few skeletons leaning over these printers waiting for it to finish its self cleaning routine. WORST PRINTER EVER!!

The End of Life 5B00 error - after doing nozzle cleaning – This has been a very good printer, with enough use that the printer tanks have been refilled. That said, it has not been used daily and had relatively light use over its 3 year life cycle. Recent poor printing suggested that cleaning was required (it has been previously cleaned on other occasions) - a nozzle check, cleaning followed by deep… Read more

cleaning (as the test print pattern hadn't improved just changed) ended with the 5B00 error being received. The manual is extremely poor - it just tells you that a print error has occurred with no additional information - as if I didn't know! Fortunately, I can now see that this is the End of Life message - thanks to some of the posted advice by other users. For the record, this was a $450.00 purchase, at Officeworks, 17 Sept 2017. Other than the 5B00 issue, this has been a good printer and scanner and relatively easy to use. It was originally purchased because of its ink tanks and because it was a Canon. Sounds like the Canon Service Centre and out of warranty costs to service the ink pad (as per other users feedback and trouble shooting) is a no goer. Before the 5B00 error, I would have rated this a 4 star printer, after the 5B00 error a 1 star printer. Someone in Canon may have thought this was a smart design idea at the time but it is the follow on purchase that gets you in the end - it won't be a Canon printer. Buyer beware on the Canon Continuous Ink System.

Post Script: Post my comments: Searching YouTube, I was able to remove the 5B00 error - there are a number of videos which provide solutions, I was eventually successful after a number of repeated tries - it is tricky. That was just the first step. Also on YouTube, how to access the ink pad (it is relatively simple) - I saw that the ink pad was not completely wet so that suggested there was another issue. More YouTube searching, air blockages in the ink feed tubes (this was likely the original cause of the poor printing). A YouTube video demonstrated how to remove the air blockages, so that I had continuous ink flow in the feed tubes. There is a knack to refilling the tanks and if you don't get it right, you get air blockages. Having solved this, I am still dealing with poor printing - I have to clean the print head. More YouTube guidance. It seems that light and non continuous use of the printer is itself a problem when it comes to the print head. The YouTube effort is worth it given the original cost of this printer.

A big disappointment – Having just purchased a G4600 Canon printer, I was very excited to get to work. After installing and connecting I find the printer DOES NOT DO DOUBLE SIDED PRINTING. I could have kept the old Brother.  Show details

5B00 error just after printer runs out of Warranty – Printer was very good and economical for the first 18 months. As I live 500km south of Sydney paid a bit more assuming this would ensure reliability and longevity of product - I was wrong. Started to have colour issues after 18 months with the Magenta playing up despite going through the devices cleaning and nozzle cleaning software. 4 months… Read more

out of the 24 month warranty and just after refilling the ink tanks got the 5B00 error, which upon doing some research appears to be a big issue for this printer. Called Canon but because I live in the Country there were no service centres near my location. So pretty much was told good luck and that the only option was to buy a new printer which after this experience won't be a Canon.

Dreaded 5B00 Error after 2 years 8 months – Printer worked well for first year or so with the main drawback the paper capacity. However, we now have the dreaded 5B00 error mentioned by several others. Extremely poor and disappointing. While we have saved money on ink, it has turned out to be a poor choice both economically and for the planet if a $500 printer with light home use lasts less than 3 years. No more Canon printers for us! Show details

Don’t buy this product – Bought this printer from office works just over 12 months ,$458 to try save money on ink. I have the 5B00 week code and can not reset the device. Need to send it or drive to a cannon service centre to do a software reset. Older models have a way of resetting the device but not this one. Show details

Canon’s dirty little secret – It has a short service life. 24 months approx in my experience. Light duty, home usage, still had 1/4 of the original ink across all colours before the dreaded, unresolvable 5B00 print error code suddenly appeared. The G4600 has internal “ink absorber pads” to soak up wastage ink. The pads service life isn’t observable until the machine… Read more

unexpectedly displays error code 5B00, which means the ink absorber pads are full. This disables copying and scanning as well as printing, rendering the machine useless. “Contact your nearest Canon service Center to request a repair”

DIY absorber pad maintenance is not possible either because Canon Service Centres are the only ones with the software facility to access printer firmware settings to zero the waste ink counter to clear the error code to restore functionality.

Evidently, it would appear Canon have engineered a printer requiring mandatory paid servicing from a Canon service Center to simply replace consumable items - ink absorber pads. This is like having to send the printer off for a paid service to replace the printing paper or ink. It is an expensive, unreliable and inconvenient system. A disingenuous design.

In conclusion, I would not recommend the Canon G4600 or any other Canon continuous ink system. I've found the Epson Expression Colour MFC Printer ET-3700 is a much better solution because it has an easy DIY replaceable maintenance cartridge for waste ink that only costs $13.99. The capacity of this cartridge is also monitorable via accessible settings on a linked computer. Printing and scanning quality of the Epson is also superior and is a more physically compact, better build quality over the flimsy Canon. The Epson even comes with more ink. Whatever you do, do not buy a Canon continuous ink system as you will seriously regret it.

Worse Canon printer ever bought – I agree with KIWIDAZ that this printer is one not to buy. We bought to save on ink had just under two ears (which I believe should last longer considering paying $487 at Officeworks). Even bought another lot of ink (tanks were 1/4 to 1/2 full) believing it needed a refill but this was not the case. What a waste of ink. As the print was leaving… Read more

lines did a complete clean as instructed only for it to stop working and will not turn on. Spoke to Canon via website helpline who advised that this was a problem with this printer. As requested sent info to them via email but unfortunately Canon have not responded. Will not buy Canon products again.

Worst Printer I've ever Owned! – Had this printer just over 2 years, Thought I'd plan ahead to save on ink charges. How wrong I've been! The colors look all washed out now. I've had to deep clean the nozzles twice to keep it working and unclogged. That's used nearly half the ink tanks alone there. Problem with that is I suspect the "Ink Pads" are now full and printer requires… Read more

This printer broke down 4 months after warranty ended did NOT even use the ink it came with – This printer is named the "Endurance" and it comes with 2 years supply of ink it is promoted as a high quality, high volume printer with refillable ink tanks. This is an expensive printer at$529.00 it prints fine and works well as a scanner but ONLY has a 12 month warranty - 4 months after the end of the warranty the printer stopped printing in… Read more

black - a notification appeared on the screen to take the unit back for repair. The test print shows no black at all even though the ink tank is half full. This printer did not even last as long as the supply of ink it was sold with and Officeworks refused to honor any statutory warranty - I was told that it is out of warranty and I should have purchased the extended warranty. This is an extremely bad value printer and very disappointing that it failed so soon after the warranty ran out.

Cannon sent me a new printer so I am quite impressed by Cannon even though officeworks did not help at all.
