It's fine unless you want to print anything red... Artists, just walk away! – This printer has been recommended over and over for artists wanting to print digital art so I finally decided to take the leap and buy this printer, hoping it was going to print my work with high quality colours and detail. I was immediately disappointed as I tried to print a very red design and it came out a very pale, almost pink... I have… Read more
tried to troubleshoot with using all the tricks and methods people suggested with varying results but never even close to a true red. Other colours are the same but not as obvious.
If you only plan to print pale colours then enjoy but there's no way this printer will print anything bright or bold.
also...sometimes it decides to print crooked onto the paper as you can see in the photo of the full blue sheet which is infuriating.
Lasted till out of warranty – prints really well, but not for long. Same issue as others have mentioned; one colour stops printing and can never be fixed by cleaning. Had an old A4 canon that lasted years and years, but 2 A3 models last only long enough to get out of warranty. in the end cheaper paying officeworks to print A3 Show details
Terrible setup – For a start there is no menu as per HP printers. This means it’s all done via wireless. Why would you make such a difficult process. Even getting the network manual is difficult. The problem started when I updated the firmware. This then requires a password to login. No way could I reset it easily so I had to reset all settings. Have no idea… Read more
where the manual is. Useless. Until I retired, I was an IT manager. My suggestion to Canon is it they remove the password requirements for the printer when it is reset. Then, because it’s easy to get into the printer, the password could easily be set as required. Why you would need a password on the printer in a home environment, is beyond me.
Canon iX6860 seems very good – Having received our new Canon IX6860 yesterday we installed it this afternoon. We only ordered it on Tuesday and it was at the PO on Wednesday. The instruction diagrams for setting it up were numbered rather strangely but once we realised their system it was OK. The installation process was simple enough and we were soon able to try it out. than perhaps waste ink on printing a birthday card first up, we merely printed a series of colours in just a few lines on regular paper. Seeing that appeared satisfactory my wife then produced one of her custom made birthday cards and printed it on photo quality card. The machine passed out card test with flying colours as we were very pleased with the colours, the consistency, the sharpness. The speed of printing was impressive. At this stage we recommend it but intend to give a further review after printing some photos in the next week or so.
Buyer beware! – First up, this is a monster size printer but as it takes A3 I guess that is normal but you'll need acres of desk space for it! Secondly, there is NO SCANNER! Thirdly, it will only print DOUBLE SIDED if you manually flip the page, won't do It automatically! There are NO MENU DISPLAYS at all! Nuffing! You're really on your own with this… Read more
printer! DIY!
It suffers from the globally known Canon problem of "The ink head is not compatible!" Also known as CIITB (Chuck It In The Bin) ' cos there is no known fix! This typically occurs after an ink cartridge replacement! A class action the USA is ongoing over this issue due tens of thousands of Canon ink jet owners having to dump their often new printers!
Other than that it does quite a good job, 3rd party cartridges are cheap and work well!
AirPrint functions work fine!
Suggestion? Forget it! Get an Epson or Brother!
Great printer for cardstock – Was looking for a work printer that could handle 300gsm cardstock. I was happy to pay quite a bit. But after some online research I came across this Canon at less than $200. I have been using it and it is excellent. At also takes A3. Print quality is good for this price although if doing a lot of printing ink costs will be the usual expensive… Read more
proposition as with most ink jet machines.
Although this page says the printer is discontinued by Canon, I bought this new a few days ago so they are still around.
April 21st 2017 Update: Excellent Printer
I did a lot of research before buying this printer.
I needed it for work as i have to print on heavy card and it seems hard to find a printer that can do this without spending a large amount of money.
This printer does the job effortlessly.
It is fast, accurate and never misses a beat.
It prints up to A3 and takes very heavy card stock.
Very pleased with this machine.
No USB Cable in the box ??? – Im not sure how to comprehend with this after a 30 min long drive i bought this printer but when i opened it there is no cable in it. not mentoined on the top of the box....
Solid and a good performer – I needed to buy a new printer but this time wanted something that was able to print A3 size. Bought in September 2014, this Canon iX 6860 so far has had no problems. I have used it to print on smooth white 300gsm card stock. This is my second Canon printer with individual ink cartridges. I found that sometimes when I send a file to the printer it… Read more
may decide to go through a routine maintenance check on itself before it prints your job and this may take about 2 minutes before it starts printing. I may not have had it for long but I would recommend it, with its ease of use and set up.
