Pretty good value for money – I find this printer really good even though it is pretty aged. The printer always connects to wifi when turned on and works with all my smart devices. On startup it can take a while to prepare to print, and genuine ink can be expensive(with all printers), but I have purchased generic ink that works well considering the price, and the machine does not get an error code while using it. Print quality is good, and the scanner and copier are good too.
Canon Pixma MG 5660 – I hate it . Plain and simple. I have never known a printer to use up so much ink and take so long to print. I've nick named it, ' The Ink Waster 2000' :) While the print quality is OK, it takes so long to get around to it. Once I hit the 'print' button, the printer then does some kind of auto surge or purge ,head clean ...or ....whatever… Read more
it does , and sometimes more than once , but whilst doing so , it uses up ink...a LOT of ink.
When I turned it on, I had more than enough ink to do the job, but after its self imposed ' auto head clean', it then told me a cartridge ran out. So I replace that. Try printing again, another clean later, yet another cartridge runs out. All I wanted to do is print one simple A4 page with text only. It took 20 mins. As far as cartridges go, its much cheaper to buy a brand new printer every time than to buy a set of cartridges. I've been buying mine online on Ebay. The genuine Canon brand, but at less than half the price. I haven't tried the generics. I have enough problems with it to even chance it.
It doesn't like 210 gsm card for business cards, it also jams up in the process on occasion , therefore wasting card as well. So I just stick to paper only.
No wonder that there is so much ' E waste' when they produce junk like this.
I am now on the market for another brand of printer.
Error Messages Canon MG5660 " The WORST Printer I have ever owned " – BUYER BEWARE! I have had this MG5660 for just over 1 Year & have been so frustrated when using as it randomly throws Error Messages to which does not allow printing then strangely 2 weeks later it decides to work then BANG another array of Printer Errors. If you want a reliable printer then stay away from the Canon MG5660 " The WORST Printer I have ever owned " Canon should be ashamed " Show details
Great printer, cheap to run – I own one of the largest online Printer Cartridge businesses in Australia and we have used Canon printers in our office for many years. I currently have 2 Canon MG5660 printers and they work a treat. They are very cheap to run and work faultlessly with non genuine cartridges. We have used Canon printers for over 10 years and overall they are… Read more
very good printers. I am actually amazed at some of the negative feedback that these printers cop. I think one of the things people need to realize is that these same printers 10 years ago were costing us around $500 to purchase.
Now days they are around the $70 mark on average and for this reason don't expect to get more than about 2 years maximum life from these printers. To be quite honest I don't think that you can find a better, more reliable printer on the market than the Canon Inkjet printers. The MG5660 has proven very reliable for us and we have had 3 of them, the first one died after about 2 years. The printhead is always the first thing to die on A Canon printer.

October 18th 2017 Update: Great printer, cheap to run
I love the 5660. We have had 3 of them in our office and I love them. Work great on generic cartridges and trouble free. Cheap to run and print quality is excellent. I love this printer, very good. As the owner of Ink Hub Australia we are printing invoices all day long and these things never miss a beat. I am surprised at some of the negative comments to be honest.
How can Canon keep putting out such poor quality printers? – Just a really, really poor quality printer. Paper jams, doesn't read paper when there is lots in the tray, wireless doesn't work. Will not buy a Canon printer again. Canon seem to specialise in creating more junk for the junk heap (terrible for the environment) and now I'm stuck with a piece of junk. Show details
Horrible in every way. Useless customer support – Bought it and it said mac was supported, after numerous phone calls got a driver emailed, but it never really worked very well, takes so long to print something, at a snail pace, scanning was never usable, Ive used many different machines and hardware before, but this pinter is extremely unintuitive, badly designed and not very user friendly. tried to get it returned and refunded, i tried to contact canon support, nothing!
The worst thing ever, i will NEVER buy from canon again.
Only Lasted 2 weeks! – The worst printer you will ever find in stores. No wonder we got this piece of junk for half price. When we print double sided, it will crease the paper! It also takes 5 minutes to go through the printing process when you only need to print one page that is not even double sided!
Good enough – I bought a canon MG5660 from the local cartridge world guy. It was really cheap at $75. I had already gone through 2 other far more expensive printers like HP and Epson and they both ended up in the wheelie bin (as where I live we have no E-waste collection) and I swore I wouldn't by another printer for anything less than $100. Thus I have this… Read more
one. Now the only thing initially wrong with it was that it kept uninstalling it's connection to the laptop. This has now rectified itself (still don't know how, must have had my tongue right) and even maintains it's Wi-Fi connection to my son's laptop in his room! The cartridges seem to last quite well (we don't print heaps anyway) and are very cheap to replace at Cartridge world anyhow (even if you want to buy the canon brand). It also has two black cartridges which many others do but they don't last like this one seems to. It prints both sides if you wish and does all the things any others do except with a smaller footprint on the desk! It is tiny compared to others which do the same thing. Just get the settings right and it'll do you well. It's not an office printer though. The only thing I do detest about it is how Canon keep wanting to app you up or sell you stuff etc. etc. It's printing can be slow depending what you're wanting to print but the quality is quite fine. So for the price I'm finally happy to have a printer again... Especially for $75! Can't beat it for that reason. As I said, get your setting spot on (and it might mess you around in the beginning) and you should not have a problem.
dont buy it its rubbish – Okay so after my old mp 6100 died after 8 years I decided to get another cannon my mistake was not coming to product review first Being in a hurry on a Saturday morning I decided to nip down to Dick smith and get a new printer having had such an excellent run from the previous cannon I decided to buy this one mistake Few things I… Read more
don’t like its slow and I mean its slow when it finally prints its reasonably fast just give it 5 minutes to figure out what its doing
The scan is okay but I have had to learn the hard way don’t let it decide on the format of the scan it switched midway through the documents from giff to pdf
I was trying to make an E book I'll just convert the pdf to giff hah that was a couple hours of frustration where my wife thought I was having a nervous breakdown eventually I gave up and gave up on the job said to her you do It still not done so no productivity there
Today trying to print government documents when it started printing I thought okay I'll do odd numbers then even to do both sides after 12 attempts I decided it was easier to waste ink and paper and do it all on one side
okay some will say thats easy it was on the old mp6100 this one is so illogical that by the time I have figured out what going on I have forgotten how i had to reinsert the paper so another stuff up so 15 stuff ups till I nearly threw it at the wall and decided to print it all out on one side never had that problem with the old cannon
Obviously the people designing it don’t read from left to right or top to bottom so its a piece of rubbish
The service from dick smith was great except for the printer itself I am happy
hopefully after I punched it so hard that its broken then I can send it back under warranty to at least waste some of cannons time and money on producing such a stupid device
When will big company’s learn don’t try and reinvent the wheel its perfect already
Don't waste your money! – PIXMA 5660. Scanner never worked. After only about 12 black and white and then three colour print pages printer kept repeating the message that there was no paper no matter how much or little I put into the tray or how many times I followed the instructions. Biggest waste of $ ever!
MY new printer – I have had an old iP4950 which is actually worn out so now I have the MG5660 It was different to begin with however once I learnt to put the paper in correctly and adjust the paper sizes it has been perfect!!! I can't work out how to scan and that is not a fault of the machine rather the operator. I chose Canon because they are reliable, work well, cheaper cartridges work perfectly and I have no complaints.
As I write...my hands are covered in ink from having to fix it for the 100th time – I love that it prints wirelessly from my PC and Ipads... And when it does decide to work it is super fast and double sided. But that's where it ends!! The ink runs out super fast. The paper ALWAYS gets jammed or doesn't feed. Which is so time consuming - Feeding one piece of paper at a time. Once jammed it is super difficult to fix. And it is… Read more
quite a large bulky item and very noisy.
I definitely would not recommend.
I want to go back to HP.
Waste of money unfortunately.
