Fantastic for what I paid! – I've only owned Canon Bubble Jet printers since owning my first computer way back in 1998. This is my second printer and my first true 'multi function' printer and haven't ever looked back since its purchase way back in 2009. I've found that the printer function is noisy and slow and it produces results that you could never argue with, I mean its a bubble jet and its a Canon and that's just what they are like, noisy and slow nothing can be done about it! It has printed enough to pay itself off in a relatively short time and the ink cartridges are expensive, but I labour on and refill them myself with the Calidad brand refills and notice that there are no issues with using other brands refills eg: Lexmark inks; to fill Canon cartridges.
The scanner function is another fantastic performer, its again slow and noisy however the end result is near perfect! I've scanned near everything from photo's, magazines, papers and even a passport and used it officially for verification and its passed (as a PDF)... The scanner takes some time to warm up and depending on resolution it may take longer to do a full pass than lower resolutions. The scanners software functions are another benefit with auto resolutions, frame reduction, cropping and straightening all taking effect on dodgy placements on the screen. It'll also scan documents and create a PDF bound document from the whole scan - which is really neat if you want to replicate things like contracts or self ideas that you dont want plagiarised.
Understandably there are better multi functions on the market, however for $38 for the printer new in the box from Hardley Normal (Harvey Norman) who could ever complain about a bit of lag or some noise from the printing function.
The cartridges as stated are costly, so stock up on some Calidad refill inks and refill yourself and stop wasting hard earned cash on OEM Canon ink's - if you do it properly you will get the right outcome print quality wise.
By the way, keep the printer free of dust and perform a print head clean regularly and you should find that the printer will last for ages - if the print head ever clogs just soak the head in warm water and wipe with a clean tissue until ink comes from the head on the tissue.
Hope this helps :) Cheap, great results from both the printer & scanner, simple to setup and transport and self contained. OEM Print cartridges are expensive - but easy to refill.
Value for money!! – I bought the MP240 exactly two years ago and it has been totally reliable and fault free. I replaced it this week with an MP250 only because someone dropped a screw into the paper feed and chewed up the pick-up rollers. Unfortunately I had only replaced the cartridges last week with high yield cartridges for about $80. I figured for an outlay of $59 for the MP250 I could get some value out of the new cartridges, and get at least two more hassle free years.
The cartridge counter is not very accurate. I use it as a prompt to buy the replacements, which I then keep on hand until the ink actually runs out. reliable, value for money, easy to set-up and use ink cartridges are expensive
OK – i have this printer as my main work printer, it is mainly used for scanning and the occasional printing. Scanning photos is really quick and easy. They are also clear and print really well. The ink catridges are expensive and the counter is not very accurate as you can print many more pages once it says to replace the ink, you can even take them out and give them a quick shake if the print quality is not 100% and they usually last for another 10-20 pages. fast, easy to use, good quality print, scans really well ink expensive, a little noisy, ink counter not accurate
OK – For a lower priced printer (we only paid around $80) this works really well. Photo's print nicely, clear sharp print, so no problem there, but not too happy about the cartridges. The only place I have found around here that stocks the cartridges is Officeworks (can't get them at Big W etc) and they are around $30 for black and $35 for colour. The ink counter doesn't seem too accurate - once it shows that the cartridge needs to be replaced, I can normally print another 40 or so pages (black text only) before it actually runs out so if I relied soley on the ink counter, I would be replacing the cartridges a lot more frequently than really needed. Prints reasonably quickly, not too noisy. Not very easy to get replacement cartridges.
