Canon Pixma MP600

Canon MP600R Excellent – Recently purchased this multifunction secondhand, so I don't know how much work it has done with the previous owner. This model is getting on to be about 10 years old now, but the average consumer probably refrain from printing much, due to the horrendous cost when using genuine inks. The MP600R is the WiFi version of the MP600, I installed using… Read more
windows 10 64bit (using win 8 drivers) and it prints fine both on WiFi and USB, the scanning also works on either connection, but scans much faster with USB. The cartridges can be refilled, using good quality ink or you may suffer from blocked heads. Like most other inkjets, the CLI-8 cartridges hold only small volume of ink, about 10-12ml, and the PG5BK about 20ml, If you replace the cartridges separately as they run out, it will go into a priming/cleaning mode each time using up a lot of ink. Going back a generation the HP45 black ink cartridges hold 45ml!!! I have had various other models of Canons like MP830, IP5200, IP4200 from this era and most of them tend to die after a couple of years light to moderate usage, either suffering from a damaged paper feed mechanism, damaged/worn printhead, or error codes like 6A00 . I think they have a built-in obsolete counter, so that if it is still functioning mechanically after a certain number of pages is printed, the firmware will throw up an error code to stop it working. So yes great quality printing and very good scans, prints and quite fast, during its designed lifespan. Having said that, still much prefer Canon over Epson and HP equivalents.
++ Pros: Prints Great Quality for photos and letters, Prints fast, Scans Great, scans fast, well built, solid weighty machine, 2 paper bins (top and front feed), duplex printing, prints on CD/DVD, built-in SD card reader, auto opening output door, flip-up lcd display screen, works with windows 10 and 7 and 8 and XP(excellent driver support from Canon), economical printing costs using compatible inks(for general usage)
-- Cons: small ink cartridges and costly to purchase for genuine inks ( I like to use genuine inks for photos), large footprint.
Never Dissapoints – I needed a multi-function printer for my home office. I print alot, scan and like to print photos for family as gifts. I saw this and saw it meet my needs. I have not been disappinted since. It does each function very well. The scanning is intuitive and easy to organize using the software that came with it. It can scan in color or black and… Read more
white. The quality makes it seem like an original document when I go to print. The printing is spectacular. It prints very fast and the ink last a long time, sometime 3 -4 months of printing and I print high volume. The picture prints are amazing quality. it is like having my own photo print shop at home. I feel like I could charge friends to print pics for the quality they come out as. I am so happy with this purchase, and I highly reccomend.
Good – When I first bought this people told me I made a mistake because it was a printer, photocoppier and scanner in one. They said I should've bought them individually incase so incase one thing broke down, at least everything else would still work. But since I bought it, I haven't regretted it. The fact that it's a printer, scanner and photocoppier in… Read more
one. It does all the jobs well and Iv'e never had any difficulties with it. The ink is very expensive, You could probably buy a whole new printer with ink included for the price I have to pay for ink.
Excellent – Husband wasn't sure it was a good idea when I bought it but is now a convert. Photos come out really clear and ink seems to last for ages. Used to use the fax a lot but now the scanner and email seems to have repalced about 90% of my old faxing work. Have had it for about three years now and have no problems at all with it. Previously had a Dell… Read more
which gave up the ghost within a year due to the dust, but Pixma is motoring along just firn. Printer, copier (including colour), scanner. Very user friendly - no need to spend ages with the manual. For all the functions and quality of output it is a very cheap option. Expensive ink cartridges if you buy Canon ones but they can be sourced cheaper from other suppliers. Be careful because the printer may not recognise them.
Good – Overall I must say when we purchased one of these I was impressed I have had no problems with it and the photos come out very clear. Other than the expensive ink its pretty good. It's fast simple and I will go for a canon again in the future. Print quality is very high and so is the scanning and photocopying quality. The printer is also fast as… Read more
well. The LCD screen is very useful since you can look at photos and edit them to suit your needs for a printout. The ink cartridges are expensive and it is also difficult to find generic branded ones that are compatible.
Good – Really like this printer. My husband got it so that he could print images directly onto the face of CD's which this printer does without any problems. Love that I can scan, make copies, print and print onto CD's all with the one machine. It's very easy to use so no hours of looking in the manual to try to see what I'm doing wrong. The only… Read more
thing is print cartridges are on the expensive side. We have just been getting ours filled up at the cartridge world place. Would say one of the negatives is that the printer has a hard time recognising the refilled ink cartridges so we get the low ink indicator when in fact is not low ink but I was told at the cartridge world place that problem was going to be fixed with some sort of chip that was going to be on the cartridges. Overall 4 out of 5 stars for me Does the lot Expensive ink cartridges
Excellent – Overall the printer preforms very well with great features all that one can use. The software that comes with it lets you get all the benefit that the printer is capable of with little fuss. Installation is very easy and you are up and printing in no time. A very good printer, better than my epson. The size of the printer is very good ,not small… Read more
but not to big to sit on the desk and take up space. Printing is very quite and even quiter in night mode, yes not to wake up the house when working late. I love the dvd/cd printing direct to disc, just scan the original insert a printable blank and press ok,its done. Also being able to print on both sides is a real bonus and easy also.2 way paper feed comes in handy when changing from plain paper to photo. I real have no cons, it just works well
Excellent – This printer is simply awesome. It is a printer, copier, scanner, CD printer and much more. It can inteface directly with a memory card or with a PIXMA enabled camera. IT is sturdy and extremely quiet. What blew me away was how it uses two seperate places to store the paper and how the the top lid is double jointed to accomodate thick books. The… Read more
ease of use is another real plus. My young kids are able to use it very easily and so can my wife. To top it all off is the really great print qualit. The only downside is the fact that cartridges will be more expensive to replace since they have chips embedded in them. Sensational value for money. Great print quality, versatility ease of use Nothing except for more expensive cartridges.
OK – Cheap printer, not cheap quality pics - VERY expensive cartridges - SO cheap to buy, not cheap to keep. We paid for extra year warranty so we'll see if we will need it (we've only had it # 6mths so far). Great quality, good looking, easy to use, good range of functions including DVD printing; colour high and low quality; scanning; lab quality… Read more
pictures; b/w; photocopying; two print trays; save pics from digital camera direct via the memory card slot; check ink left on machine or PC; cartridges sell everywhere, even newsagents. Little prob with paper jams occasionally, had to take it to an authorised repairer to get all paper jammed out properly to keep using (he didn't charge us), can't monitor how many pics/docs been copied or printed (so can't tell if value for money etc).
WORST OF ALL - CARTRIDGES - OMG - so expensive. I tried to work out the cost to print a 4x6 and inclulding cost of cheap EBAY canon paper it was around $1.20 per photo - I rang Canon and complained this was not how they advertised it. If I had known it was going to be so expensive, I wouldn't have bought it - not value for money. They couldn't tell their head from their .... Really unhelpful, just be aware of cost of printing on this machine so you realise you still have to go to Big W @ 15c a copy for most pics and just emergencies at home etc. (cost on EBAY $90 for all 5 cartridges and I found them to last about 120 4x6 photos! if I was lucky)
Excellent – Im glad i bought this all in one printer. It has made my life so much easier as I dont have to buy a printer, scanner, and photocopier seperately. It looks awesome, it prints very good quality pictures in a matter of seconds and it has a 2.5inch screen. You can insert your SD card into it and view your photos on the screen and print it straight… Read more
away. No computer needed. It's also a scanner, printer and photocopier. It's quiet so if you stay up late, it won't wake up anyone. The ink may be a bit expensive, but hey , you can find some cheap ones these days :)
