Canon Pixma MX870

Great Printer – Had this printer for about 10 years now & never missed a beat. Had only one paper jam in all that time. Unfortunately the gears & cogs are making horrible grinding noises, so probably on the way out now. Good product, would buy another one or current equivalent. Show details
Rubbish – Worked fine a few months - even though it was quite a bit thirsty on the ink then the scanner stopped working - then it stopped printing black - then the copier stopped working - piece of junk and not cheap to buy - i will never buy another canon. Show details
7 Years service without a problem – Fax works fine, scan quality is outstanding as is copying. Photo printing is good on plain paper which is what I expected anyway. (I send my photos for pro printing anyhow). I change the cartridges 3 or 4 times a years with compatible ones (genuine would cost a fortune) so it costs around £50 a year, plus paper, to print about 100 - 150 pages per month. Show details
Work horse for 2.5 years till its heart gave away – I'm a home user so no overworking the poor thing, but when I did use it I pushed it with scanning multiple magazines through its ADF scanner and duplex printing a whole book.... no issues... no sweat! - from the device. Always been on wifi, did have some wifi disconnections sometime ago but that was modem issues. ADF & Duplex printing works… Read more · 1
like a charm... little on the slow side, but its a cheap printer so I can wait
Grey consumables purchased online at 1/5th the price of the original work very well. yes the ink consumption is high and I don't know why it uses the other colors to print black. so if you are only printing black you are still consuming other colors. but this didn't bother me as I was getting extremely cheap ink.
Bit on the bulkier side. too much depth very hard to find a spot for it.
Today it died about 2.5 years from purchase. I have extended warranty from the retailer so I'm about to go and see if they will honour it.
Will I pick another Pixma? - Yes. But I'm tempted to give another printer a try.
Piece of junk – We bought the printer and within a few weeks after barely few prints the ink went dry. Alright, we got new cartridges, easy to replace excellent, but again after few prints the cartridge finishes. These cartridges look big but barely last anytime. We again bought more cartridges and this time the print will just not print even black and white when… Read more
my yellow cartridge finished. What a rip off. Buy this printer only if you want to get ripped buying cartridges. Easy to set up Too costly to maintain.
Looks good and works ! – I changed brands to Canon and can not be happier. Each cartridge colour is seperate so there see,s to be no waste of ink. My last printer had all colours in one cartridge and I used to throw away so much ink. Can fax, print scan and copy. Great for my home office. Easy to use and has cool templates installed like To Do Lists and Monthly Calendar
Terrible – This printer might be alright for the person who just wants to print a few pages each day, but dont buy if you want to print in duplex a few hundred pages per day, as you will be very disappointed;I know I am. Any problem means it wipes out the rest of the printing job, so you have to start all over. The ink cartridges are just a joke, uses the… Read more
coloured ones even when you just want black.
Many errors pop up for which there is no obvious answer, they just come and go.
So as you can see I am not a bit impressed with this printer.
I have had it just a few days, just wish I had never seen it. Prints well in photo mode Duplex printing slow-slow -slow in fact unreal about half a page per minute.
uses ink that fast again unreal.
Excellent – I run a medium sized business, I got fed up with the poor print quality and hassles I received with my hp's, and began to search for a new printer. After reading a lot of positive reviews on other websites I went into the local Harvey Norman and bit the bullet (I was hesitant as I did not want to end up with another piece of trash) Well I have to… Read more · 1
say that the printer has lived up to my highest expectations.
If you are worried about the time it takes to print - and no printer in this price range that can match the quality of print. Spend more and get a larger printer. But if your looking for a printer at the price of this one, there is simply no competition. Print quality, WiFi, easy to use, does the job It is a little slow duplexing (30 seconds a page), but for the quality of print and hassle free printing it is worth it.
Bad – Canon printers have a good reputation, but this one hasn't lived up to expectations. We were reasonably happy with it, despite the fairly slow print speed, until it suddenly went dead 7 weeks after purchase. We live in the upper Hunter Valley and had to drive for over 2 hours (into Newcastle) to the nearest service agent to have it repaired. It… Read more
then took the agent over 2 weeks to get it back into working order. During this time we were able to print using our old HP printer (luckily for us we hadn't thrown out), but we had got rid of our old fax machine and so spent a frustrating time listening to incoming fax signals that we were unable to receive. Good print quality. Twin paper trays are convenient. Built-in fax provides flexibility and eliminates need for a separate machine if desktop space is lacking. Plain paper tray has a small capacity. Slow printing speed. Stopped working after less than 2 months of light use. Authorised service agents outside capital cities are few and far between, and it appears to take a long time for them to get parts for repairs.
Will empty your wallet fast – This in the most inefficient printer I have ever used. It uses all ink tanks to print black text and fast - not the printing, the emptying of the cartridges. Not only does it go through ink fast it will not operate for long (if at all) with non canon cartridges. It seems this printer has been designed to extort as much money from the user as… Read more
possible via cartridges.
If you have not bought one - don't, If you have - do as I did - save money - dump it now
This is the last Canon product I will buy, I no longer trust the brand. Purchase price Running costs are excessive
