Worst printer I've ever owned – Complete rubbish printer. Do not waste your money. Printing is sketchy, colours never match the pic on your computer, no matter what setting you try. Ink cartridges are tiny, I was sucked in by the Canon name. Going back to HP.

Noisy and doesn't print!! – Worst printer I have ever used. Extremely noisy when setting up (thought it was broken as it sounded so sick), extremely slow to communicate with computer, cartridges run out very fast and worst of all, after 3 months it would only print a small fraction of a page!! Found this out as I was trying to print out tickets to an expensive concert and… Read more

couldn't make it work. Ever since it occasionally prints a whole page but it is very unreliable. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!!!!

Avoid it if you can. Shame on you Canon! – Bought this during the COVID product drought last year, only printer available in the price range. Overly complicated and fussy to set up, very noisy and very slow. Had to download a new driver from internet and got a load of apparently" canon authentic" junk programming and no driver unless I paid a service. Total rubbish and will be contributing this piece o crap to landfill shortly. Avoid it if you can.  Show details

Epic Fail – configuration and connectivity went great. it was slow and noisy, about what i'd expected of a $180 printer, but print quality looked good. then on turning on day 4 after purchase a print error code. day 4, total pages printed, 14 + 1 start-up page. consulted manual, turned off and un-pluged as instructed. no go. repeated instructions. no go.… Read more

rang canon support, outsourced to an overseas call centre. support person had english as second language and had difficulty speaking and understanding english. and i had difficulty understanding her. after many repeats, errors, quote backs, and several 'can you wait a few minutes for me please' (and that was just the beginning getting my name, phone number and the product model number across), eventually, after them insisting i turn off, unplug etc a few more times, they identified it as a faulty machine with hardware problems. .and no... there is no repair service, no replacement service, no supplier, retail or availability service. their advice,? return faulty machine to store for exchange. i explained this was their last machine of this model. answer? return machine to store for exchange... ...i explained again twice. ok. they understood...return to store for refund then. If disputed i asked? no problem..wait in store for the hour or so while store contact canon call centre and repeat the process. have a good day.

Not the best printer!!! – Not the best printer. I needed a new printer when my canon pixma TS8160 constantly jammed paper so settled on the TS9160 as I had many new ink cartridges and found that the TS9160 used the same cartridges. In lockdown Melbourne I was restricted on travelling any distance and a needed a new printer urgently. I purchased the TS9160 from Cartridge… Read more

World $185.00 - not the cheapest price. It is VERY noisy when preparing to print, when printing and when it has finished. It sounds like a chaff cutter.

So unbelievably slow – I bought the Canon TS9160 2 months ago based on industry information. It has been a constant disappointment. The quality of when and if it prints is first class, but it is inconsistent. I have never had such an astonishingly slow printer, sometimes taking 30 minutes to complete 3-4 page documents. Often it will get stuck on a page and take 15… Read more

minutes to print it. Although this is only 2 months old, I will have to replace it with something that actually gets the job done. A lemon.

Recommended – great product for the home user. print, photo print, scan, copy...it does it all seamlessly, and it's small and compact so doesn't take up a lot of space. I paid $169 for this printer. stop your search and just go with this printer, you won't find a better printer for under $300. Show details

Almost Flawless – Just a bit of background. I have been a photographer , a serious amateur since I was 14 years old. During that time I have owned up to 8 computers , 10 cameras , 15 printers. The cameras I have owned start at the humble Smartphone right through to top of the range canon 5DMK2. The printers included professional high end Canon 9500, Canon pro… Read more

100 , some Epsons and a couple of HP . Now to the present I have just replaced my all in one everyday printer a Canon 7765 which died and went to printer heaven with this Canon TS9160 .

TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS. I read with much interest the number of people giving this printer one star on sites such as Amazon USA and realised that most of their problems were self inflicted through not knowing how to set the printer up correctly , or expecting it to run straight of the box, so let me address some of those issues and put you on the path to a no fuss setup. SETUP. Most complaints were about the setup , losing the connection and failing to print from a Smartphone. Forget about trying to connect this printer wirelessly or any Canon printer if possible for that matter directly to you Router/modem

The simple solution is buy yourself an ethernet cable and do a wired LAN setup.

During this process you can start from the accompanied disc and then it will usually fail to find the connection and refer you back to the printer to continue the setup . Once this is done it will print without a problem ,but I suggest you give it a static address in your router/modem , you can find how to do this by Googling .

Be careful though ,because I noted that after I reinstalled the drivers after a computer problem that the IP address had changed .You can check what the IP address is on the printer itself by using the touch screen . However if you choose not to use a static address then this won't cause a problem .

The second thing is never turn it off. Go into your maintenance section and switch the connect to auto power on to ENABLE and auto power off to DISABLE I guarantee when you wake up next morning crank up your computer it will print in an instant.

CONNECTING TO YOUR SMARTPHONE. Easy , just download the Canon Imaging app from your play store , search for your printer and the setup is complete. Possible problems : It wont print a PDF . The problem here is of course that some apps don't convert a PDF document in a format that the printer recognises. I tried this with a number of free PDF conversion apps and the printer failed to recognise the document as a PDF . The solution is to install Acrobat reader and print from that app.

The clever little printer knows what you are printing from a Smartphone . The app asks you do you want to print a document or a photo and sends the info to the printer which selects the rear feed for photos (put your photo paper in there). or the cassette for documents. Be aware though that this does not happen from a computer whether it is wireless or cable connected .

I found that I had to make the necessary paper adjustments using the Canon print interface.

I also noted that OUTLOOK can cause some problems because OUTLOOK has it's own printer dialogue and you have to dive into that to select the correct tray that you are printing from otherwise it will just print from the rear tray. You have to make sure to select the correct paper and where you want the printer to access this paper.

SCAN QUALITY . Scan quality is very good and more than adequate for most applications. I do my photo scanning from a Epson V700 professional scanner so it will deliver similar results not quite as good and of course it can't remove colour casts etc from old photos.

PHOTO QUALITY. Well what can I say , it is superb . It gives my Pro 100 a run for its money and produces as much detail although black detail is not as good and the colour rendering is a little different because of the ICC profiles . Side by side prints 4X6 I could not see the difference even under a 5X magnifier the TS9160 prints showed very little difference.

CONCLUSION . This printer wins me hands down and is hard to go past considering the price . I did buy it at $139.00 delivered from Amazon . Just be aware when looking at the price these printers are not meant to last. If you get 3 to 4 years out of them before problems occur you are doing well , I mean to say, what do you expect ? These guys make their money on inks and don't worry you can use third party inks with this printer unlike some printers which stop point blank once they know you are using third party inks .I wont mention the brands but if you do your homework you will find them.

A highly recommended printer .

Very happy with this Canon for my home office – After much research I settled on this printer and i haven't been disappointed. Purchased on September 28, so it's been just over two months and I've done a lot of printing (full colour A4 on glossy, matte, and high res papers plus cardstock, A4 sticker sheets and 4x6 photos) and I haven't had any issues. The colours are fantastic and blacks are so… Read more

deep and dark! I love having the two paper load slots, that comes in handy when printing on multiple types of paper like I do. The only thing I find frustrating is that the printer turns itself off after a certain amount of time, which is a handy power saving feature, but I just wish it had the ability to turn it back on at the computer! I access the printer over wifi and it can be a hassle to send something to print only to discover the printer has gone off. I have replaced 3 inks so far, which isn't a surprise given the amount of printing I've done so far. I have purchased compatible inks from ebay with no issue. I do need a second printer for my market stall and was initially considering a Canon with a lower price point, but now that I'm so happy with the TS9160 I may just have to buy another one (if I can find it still for sale!!)

Great printer but ink is so expensive – I spotted this printer at our local Officeworks and loved the design as it was a lot more modern then other printers for sale. It’s fantastic and I haven’t had any problems at all, the printer itself is reasonably priced the only thing that outweighs it for me is the cost of ink and if one colour runs out before the other it’s difficult to bypass and be able to use the printer still and the cost is ridiculous, I paid $160 and it didn’t last long. Show details

Do not buy this printer. It's a piece of junk that's soooo frustrating to use – Every time I try to use this piece of junk printer something goes wrong! I get incorrect error messages - ie. "no paper" when there is more than enough in the cassette or "paper jam" when there is nothing wrong. More often than not however the paper will actually jam and I have to pull the thing apart to clear it. I have wasted so much time… Read more

sitting by this printer trying to get it to print a single document. And don't get me started on the volumes of paper and ink I've wasted on half printed pages and the endless paper jams. Give your hard earned money to another company as Canon doesn't deserve it. This printer is a total waste of time and money. Do not get sucked in by the cheap price ($200 at Officeworks) - you certainly get what you pay for with this piece of soon-to-be landfill.

Canon 9160 has no ADF – The canon 9160 maybe a home printer but it feels very fragile to use. Most importantly Canon neglects to tell you it foes not have an ADF so every scan and copy has to be done manually via the glass. This fact alone has made my decision to purchase a regretted one.  Show details

Canon Pixma TS9160 OK for a day!! – Had 5 of these printers ,2x TS9060 and 3x TS9160 within the last 14 months! ( I am persistent, I like the compact design and, when working, the quality of output) but in each instant codes 1240 and 1259 keep recurring and cannot be cleared. I have contacted Canon who have tried to help with replacing 3 of the printers, also Officeworks, from whom I brought the first one and replaced with the 5th one . Excellent service but !!  Show details

Excellent print quality and easy installation – Replaced a very old and reliable Epson inkjet multi-function printer with a Canon Pixma TS9160 multi-function (print, copy, scan) printer which was very easy to install and connect using the set up CD-ROM provided and the cable from my old Epson (a cable is not provided by Canon). I didn't use wifi installation as I'm currently without Internet… Read more

access at home. The screen at the front of the printer also provides easy to follow set up instructions. Inks provided with the Canon printer were straightforward to install, despite each individual ink cartridge being over-packaged with clear plastic plus a large orange plastic cap. The printer also came with a few printed pages of 'Getting Started' installation information, so couldn't really go wrong. Paper was easy to load into the paper cassette and print head alignment on the test paper was perfect. Document print quality is black and sharply crisp, similar to laser print quality. Printing after installation is very fast with pages zipping out of the machine in seconds. The printer makes a succession of noises during set up, printing and post-printing which will take some getting used to after the much less noisy Epson. Why a Canon and not another Epson? I prefer to use cost-saving generic inks and Epson printers apparently now have software installed to prevent its printers from working if generic inks are installed (a good way to forfeit customers to competitors, Epson). I also did a fair bit of research and this particular Canon printer received very good overall reviews for a printer in its price range. Purchased for $179 from Officeworks and a final price of $159 with Canon's July 2018 cash back offer of $20. The printer came with a small packet of photographic paper but haven't printed any photos yet and unlikely to do so as I purchased the Canon for document printing and scanning - and an occasional photocopy. Very pleased with it so far and as it's a very long time since I've installed a printer I was extremely happy to find that the set up was problem-free. I'm not a computer tech person so hate it when technology doesn't work immediately and I'm forced to spend time trouble-shooting and phoning help desk technicians for clarification. The Canon Pixma TS9160 can also be connected to a smart phone but as I'm not interested in that feature (printing from my smart phone) I haven't installed the application software in my smart phone. I'd recommend this printer to anyone wanting a good quality, reasonably-priced home and/or small office printer. The Pixma TS9160 appears to be the updated model of the Canon Pixma TS9060 that received excellent product reviews from 'Choice' and a number of online computer magazines.

Excellent wireless inkjet printer, great for photos – Fast, high quality, wireless printer, just what I need. Once set up, it is easy to use. Setting up the wireless printing is a little tricky, but the manual explains how to do it. I print direct to the printer from my iPhone and iPad! I bought the printer because I want to print 6x4 photos and it does this very well. The individual ink tanks are… Read more

great for colour printing and getting the colour right. It has a cassette for A4 paper and duplexer to enable double siding.

I haven't used the Copy, Scan functions, I think I will need to read the manual for that.
