had five fan controllers fail after 13 months . they are junk Show details
The clipsal iconic rotary fan controllers are junk, I've replaced 4 of mine already, only for them to fail again after less than 12months. Too hard to turn, so plastic dial strip's out Not cheap to buy either.. Stay away from these. Show details
Worst product ever, switches lasted just 2years, 0 stars for product quality and service Show details
Really poor quality. They do not work – Purchased 3 iconic outdoor single GPO's. All three do not work. It seems like the face plate doesn't properly connect to the switche rocker mechanism. Really poor product design. My electrician said they were dubious to use clipsal in the first place as they had experienced poor quality with them many times before. We are getting a refund and getting a trustworthy brand instead. Show details
Iconic fan controller too hard to use – The iconic fan switch controller is useless for elderly or anyone with arthritic issues. I'm the only one in our house who can use the things. Was hoping with all of the negative reviews Clipsal would have addressed this. Show details
Clipsal fan controller – We had these installed by Coral homes during our build and they are junk, the normal switches are ok but the ceiling fan controller's and we have 9 are rubbish. Even their electricians who've repaired some in our 12 month warranty noted they are rubbish and should have all been replaced.
Clipsal smoke alarm. Avoid them at all costs – Broke my back after trying to hush a Clipsal smoke alarm. Fell off a ladder trying to hush a smoke alarm and the hush button was faulty. It he company were not apologetic about their far than accceptable product. Then my partner tried to hush an accidental activation. And again it failed. Clipsal refused to listen to the feedback. I have a t8 T13… Read more
and possible neck fracture from it, they still don’t hush and Clipsal refuse to replace or admit their products are shonky.
Very poor quality – 2 fan switches in 5 years. Dial breaks. Very disappointed
Not impressed – The iconic fan switches are dodgy. I’ve had failed totally within 12 months. Another works at time and have to be delicate when turning and may not engage could have it on say 2 and fab does not spin.
Fan switches too skinny to use – Fan switches are soo narrow/ skinny it’s hard to rotate them to turn fan on/ off. Plus they’re very stiff to rotate compared to standard fan switches. Also the matte finish is very porous. Always having to clean them with wipes. Another issues is having two fan switches on the same board makes turning them on and off even harder again. Plus… Read more
they’re very faulty, you have to wiggle the switch abit or the fan won’t turn on. Have spoken to others who have the same range. It seems to be an all round issue.
switches rattle ! – Clunky and very noisy switching mechanism, switches rattle , I cant belive how the product release like this ! very disapointing Show details
If there was zero stars that is what this product deserves – Very low quality switching mechanism. Clunky and very noisy switching mechanism. I was going to change all the 10 year old switches in my house but will not bother. These are a huge downgrade. Show details

Worst product in the whole house – We have four fan rotary four position switches in the house, installed around four years ago. One has been replaced already, one needs replacing after having to use poly grips to turn the fan off, the other two are extremely hard to turn and will also need to be replaced. I contacted Clipsal and they weren’t very helpful so never again for me
Fan Switch - TERRIBLE / Poor Design – Have these in a new house build (less than 3yrs) have the fan controller, push dimmables, USsB integrated, backlit etc. throughout the house Fan knob is TERRIBLE! All have failed from minimal usage, has gotten to the point i’m considering using pliers to turn fan on and through speeds it’s that hard and stiff to turn. Would be ok if you could… Read more
just pull off the knob and replace it but you can’t. I haven’t even been game to disassemble and work something else up.
As a product/mechanical designer myself I am quite surprised these switches dint appear to have been thoroughly tested and verified considering this is the only mechanical function interacting with the user. Poor effort for a locally designed product, considering the product this superseded (had in other homes) I’ve never had an issue with.
Can’t suggest an alternative as i’m living with it for now. Plus we are in SA and don’t use the fans that much to warrant paying more money to fix a poorly designed product.
Fan switches don't last – Fan switches don't last. 4 out of 5 failed inside 5 years, and at $70 each, that's a bitter pill. Only one still switches with a proper click, the others scrape and gouge. Taking the face plates off to wash is nice, but the fans switches rule out this product. Show details
Feels like junky toy parts – I did not choose the Clipsal fan. It was put in by the electrician when he said the other one was failing and I am not even sure about that. It runs as if it struggles. The control switch is a clicky weak thing you expect to come off the wall in your hand. I think the electrician was an agent for Clipsal. If you are reviewing for a fan purchase, my advice, don't get Clipsal. Show details
Cheap feel and loose – The switch plates all look great but have a hollow and loose feel about them. The mechs are loos and rattle. When you use the switch the plate sounds hollow and cheap. I am very disappointed in the finish. The plastic face marks very easy, even with your finger nails??? Over priced crap. I changed 15 of them and regret it. Show details
DO NOT USE THE FAN SWITCHES – We chose these as they were more modern looking than the classics or 2000s. The light switched themselves worked fine, if felt a little flimsy, although the matte finish only looked nice for about a week. After that they showed every single finger mark and looked constantly dirty. The fan switches though are TERRIBLE. We needed to replace 4 out… Read more
of 4 mechs in short time, as they all seized. And even when they were working, the shiny finish on the sides of the knob made them near impossible to get a good grip on. Avoid at all costs!
Smoke alarm disaster – Our electrician installed new required smoke alarms which were clipsal brand, they all link together as per the 2022 regulations, They were installed in a holiday rental house, and about 6 weeks after install we had guests staying and they all went off for about 4 minutes every hour until the second day they were all going off like stuck on… Read more
permanently sirening. Fair enough clipsal sent a technician to replace each smoke alarms but have ignored the fact the guests had a crap holiday and should be compensated, i wouldn't recommend this company at all. You supplied a faulty product you should compensate the guests for not being able to sleep and having to deal with this for the weekend.
Poorly designed rubbish – We built a new house and our sparky upsold us on Iconic. Firstly he should be ashamed of himself. It looks good in the brochure but is absolute rubbish in practice. I can only assume the the designers of this product did not actually use it, it really is that bad. I’m seriously amazed there aren’t hundreds of people here panning it. 1) The… Read more
switches rattle around and do not fully engage into an on/off position. Obviously they switch ok, but they always look and feel lose. Kind of like some cheap rubbish you'd expect to buy off ebay. The switching mechanism is no where near as good as the old style Clipsal switches. 2) The fan knobs are finished with a shiny plastic that is next to impossible to use if you’ve got the slightest bit of moisture on your fingers. This is mainly an issue on the multi gang plates if you've got some other knobs like dimmers or other fans - there is nowhere near enough space between the other knobs to get your fingers in there. I live in Brisbane and most of the time have to use a piece of clothing/shirt dry my fingers to get leverage on the knob. Kind of ironic right that a fan can’t be turned on easily in a hot and humid environment. 3) The face plates have a slight matte finish which gets dirty very easily yet is near impossible to clean properly. 4) Several of our fan knobs have lost there inset pieces. Overall this is not what you’d expect after spending thousands on electrical in a new house. Very disappointing. Clearly Clipsal’s R&D and design team needs a shake up. If it was my job to design this product and that is what I came up I’d be embarrassed.
Love this – I love the way it look so and all these products I have they are cool as you can chose and custemize them to you home and power outlets this is a cool thing to have in your home and it is easy to see at night

Look great and priced OK – I am eventually going to replace all powerpoints and light switches throughout my home. Currently have very cheap non branded switches that don't look or feel right. So after looking around, I decided to try a one-off light switch to test out before replacing every switch in the home. I decided on the Iconic range due to their look and… Read more
personalisation options. In my older home, I had the classic 2000 series throughout and they are a great switch. Very basic but very reliable. Now I want more personalisation with styles and colours. Recently I first got an Iconic 5 gang light switch in vivid white translucent edge. I really like the 40 series mechs. Terminals are large enough for multiple wires and the ability to add an LED to the mech. I have the LED set to locator so that it is always on which shows a dim light behind each dolly rocker switch for easy location in the dark. I have also replaced the standard blank white dollys with dollys that have icon pictures printed on them to indicate which switch does which light (or fan). On a 5 gang plate, this is a handy feature. But one thing I wish these dollys had was a translucent picture icon so that the LED shines through to let me know which switch turns on which light when it is dark and I can not see the switches. So when it is dark, I can see the lit up switches around their edges, but can not distinguish which switch is what. The switch plate is great. It feels a bit flimsy in the hand but when screwed to the wall, it is very sturdy. The screw ends are reinforced with metal to give it strength, and a flap that covers the screws. Your choice of Iconic face plate is easy to click on and remove. The dolly rocker switches click into place on the back of the face plate and they do feel nice to the touch once all is together and on the wall. They do not feel loose in my experience. Pricing is sort of reasonable for this range. On the high side of pricing for a mid range switch. Look around and go through an electrical wholesaler to get the best value. I have not tried the Iconic powerpoints yet so can not comment on those yet. The only thing preventing me from fitting out the whole house is lack of funds. But eventually I will fit the whole house with Iconic and add in smart switches technology to integrate into the smart home setting. Pros: - Very good style options and colour range - Great mechs - Ease of replacing the face plates for personalisation - LED indicators surrounding the individual switches - Picture icons on each switch as an option Cons: - Price is on the high side for this range of switches - Cost for optional picture dolly rockers are dis-proportionally high - LED option does not shine through the individual switches to indicate each switch's function - Matt textured surface could scratch easily if not careful
Very disappointed in the quality of the Iconic range coming from C2000 and Classic series – When I first saw the new iconic range I thought they looked pretty nice and would be nice aesthetic upgrade from either the trusted C2000 or classic series (I've had these for 20+ years without issue). Unfortunately the quality leaves a lot to be desired...the faceplates are now easily replaceable by the end user but this comes at the expense of a… Read more
solid feeling light switch. When you press anywhere on the light switch the thin plastic flexes. The switch itself rattles around...this is again due to the new faceplate design...the switch toggle is built into the faceplate and the mech sits behind it which lends to a loose feeling switch. In contrast the classic 30m mech which contains the switch and feels very solid. Even the grid is cheap plastic that flexes when screwed into a wall box. Run ur nail very lightly over the plastic and it scuffs... good luck when pushing plugs into the power points. Sorry Clipsal try again. I'll probably stick with the Classic series . . . even though I really do like the aesthetic design, I don't think I can compromise on the build quality.
Loose switch buttons – Recently decided to update the light switches and liked the look of the Clipsal Iconic range and impressed by the LED lights. So far have only installed 2 and noticed the switch buttons are loose... Has anyone else experienced this? Or is this normal for the Iconic range? I’m disappointed considering the price Show details
