We’ve been using CrawlBot AI (https://crawlbot.ai) for a couple of months across three client sites, and it’s the first “AI chatbot” I’ve tried that didn’t turn into a hallucination machine. Getting started was surprisingly painless. I literally pasted a client’s domain into the “Try it with your site” box, it crawled a handful of pages, and within a minute I had a working demo widget answering questions from their own content. For selling it internally, that was huge. I could show stakeholders “here’s your site, but chatty” without having to beg devs for help.
The production setup was basically copy-paste. There’s an admin dashboard where I can tweak the welcome message, colors, logo, and tone (“more casual”, “more formal”, etc.), and then just drop their script/iframe snippet into the site. No weird build steps, no SDK. For our non-technical clients, the fact they can edit prompts, change the persona, and flip re-indexing on/off themselves has been a big win.
The quality of answers is where it really clicked for us. CrawlBot is clearly doing actual retrieval against our pages, not just guessing. It happily quotes the relevant URLs and snippets, and when something isn’t in the content, it just says “I don’t know” instead of making stuff up. That alone has saved us from a bunch of “your bot lied to our customers” drama we’ve had with more generic assistants.
The analytics are way better than what I expected from a v1 product. We can see which pages get cited the most, what people are asking, which questions go unanswered, and how each individual embed is performing (impressions, opens, chats, etc.). That’s turned into a sneaky-good UX and SEO tool: we’ve used unanswered queries to update FAQs and product pages, then forced a re-index and watched the “I don’t know” rate drop.
It’s not perfect. The 5-page demo crawl is fine for a quick taste, but it can undersell the experience on bigger sites where the interesting stuff lives a little deeper. Also, anything behind a login is still on their “future/higher tier” path, so for now we can’t use it as an internal helpdesk bot for private dashboards, which a couple of clients have already asked for.
That said, for public websites where you want a reliable, low-nonsense AI assistant that stays inside your content and gives you real analytics and controls, CrawlBot AI has been one of the few tools we kept after the trial ended.
