Culinare MagiCan C10000

Absolutely hopeless utensil, do not buy this. I ended up taking it back the next day to Woolworths for a refund. Then I realised there are so many negative reviews of this product. It does not cut and it takes about 1000 turns before it even advances around a can. This is a terrible product. Show details
Worked once out of the box before it just spun endlessly on the very next and subsequent Unfortunately most cans are ring pull these days so, by the time you discover that this opener is cheap, plastic landfill, you no longer have the box or receipt to return it. Avoid avoid avoid. Show details

I have been using this brand for about 15 years. The version from the 2010’s were the best openers I had ever used. This version is rubbish. The cog wheel skids on the can and feels like cheap trash. Seems like every other company… take the ‘make it cheaper route’ and now it is trash which is a real shame cos as I said, they were the best I had ever used. Gutted!!!

Unsure of exact model number - The very first MagiCan I purchased many years ago was absolutely and phenomenally brilliant !!!!!! I raved about this can opener then with time and usage, it stopped working seamlessly. Was really unpredictable and mostly wouldn’t pierce the can in areas. Replaced with my 2nd MagiCan last year, no comparison at… Read more
all in quality to what the item used to be from my first purchase of this item. The effortless hand energy that ‘was’ required with my very first purchase of this can opener was not present with the repurchase - the reliability of such ease in piercing with the can beautifully and opening it effortlessly was lost about 3mths into it being new with the 2nd purchase of this can opener. It missed sections of the can lid that wasn’t opened, so had to go back in areas to go over it….., even several times due to the teeth not piercing the tin. This was used on several tins/different brands with all the same outcome.
The can opener had never been soaked in water to prevent the teeth malfunctioning. It simply was wiped and cleaned throughly with a damp cloth/ air dried. I made myself believe I had simply purchased a lemon / an off batch from the production line.
3rd time purchase of the MagiCan a few months ago, again- can now simply truthfully state - waste of money for what it used to represent. All of the above issues have arisen again -of not opening cans first time around -arm/ hand strength needed to make sure the mechanism teeth are piercing the can - the last 2 MagiCans I’ve owned, NO elderly person would have any chance of using it successfully. Beetroot tin is to show the real struggle with the Haggard edges- i was losing my cool, to say the least today. Hense why the review.
The product has definitely declined with the ‘magic’ that it used to represent in the opening of cans with such ease. Highly DO NOT recommend.

Absolute rubbish – Until reading these reviews, I thought it was me that was at fault with this product . Always a battle to fully open the lid. Tonight was the final straw. Attempted to open a tin of beetroot. Absolute disaster. Best I got was to half open the tin . Beetroot juice all over the floor . Had to throw away the can of beetroot . Can opener followed closely behind Show details

Complete and utter rubbish – Won’t latch onto the can and the mechanism broke after a dozen uses. What a complete waste of money adding to landfill. How can any company sell rubbish like this? Culinare and DKSH should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps I’ll take my sledgehammer to it and post a video! Show details

Really disappointed with this – The listing says: “Easican can opener makes opening cans effortless. It's mess free and in one smooth action it lifts the lid off the can” What a joke!! This can opener was always tricky to use but I have now reached a point where I am throwing it out after only one year of occasional use. The saving grace is that that most cans are now easy… Read more
opening, thank goodness I don’t have to use it so often, I have only used the opener a few times per week instead if a few times a day as I would before easy opening cans became commonplace.
It simply strains at the joint when I attempt to pierce the can and if you fail to penetrate then you fail to open the can.
I am considering complaining to Woolworths for sourcing such poor quality products when the $3 home brand was not made available and I am sure would still be working fine.
I never write reviews, but this product is poor enough to warrant a review to save other people from getting ripped off. 2 stars are for the dozen successful opened cans in a year.

There' NOTHING 'Magic' abou this product – Purchase at Coles Supermarket, Ramsgate, NSW. An hour later I'm still struggling to open a can! Difficult to attach to the can and when I do - it mangles the can lid. You start again and again - trying to avoid the sharp mangles edges - FRUSTRATING!!! I wish I kept my Coles receipt. MagiCan are no longer the great product that made them famous – I bought a new MagiCan last week from a respectable kitchen shop and it’s quality is so bad it is unusable ,I have my original MagiCan from the 1980s which I had to get out to actually open the can with it still works perfectly but it doesn’t seem to have the Culinare maker on it was the original company bought by Culinare and they sent a opener… Read more
to an Asian company to make a bad copy with out the strength or cutting ability I will go back to my kitchen shop to inform the lovely owner that she has be duped into selling an inferior copy of the original great invention why can’t people leave things that work alone and stop trying to save money buy using cheap imports . It will just cheapen the good name that MagiCan has in the market place. This product I purchased last week is crap and only good for the rubbish bin.

The can opener that doesn't open cans – Picked this opener up to replace our old magican, have not been able to open a can easily in the week we've had it. Taking it back for a refund and will purchase another brand as Culinare Magican is not the good can opener it used to be. Show details

From hero to zero. Dreadful – It seems like so many here that I was a huge fan of Magican. However, after 15 years of service it wore out. This new Culinare Magican was a total flop. It struggled to grip the lid, it was hard to turn, and it didn’t cut the can consistently. When I looked closely at the distance between the cutting disc and the centre of the grip wheel they… Read more
seemed much further apart than my old one. After struggling for a couple of weeks I returned it the supermarket for a refund. Don’t put up with products that aren’t fit for purpose.

Does not open cans – HARD WORK, manages to open one can and it took at least 3mins of wrestling. Useless and I do not have a receipt to take it back. After paying top dollar because I have arthritis in my hand, I am extremely disappointed. It is not even worth $2 at a discount store. I am not sure where they are making these but they are not the quality they used to be. Show details

Disappointed – Bought this as a replacement for one that we had for a number of years. Am really disappointed with the new one as it isn’t easy to attach, use and sometimes leaves a ‘dag’. Nowhere near as good as the one we had previously. Wouldn’t recommend spending the money on this opener. Show details

Gift one to someone who deserves it – This can opener prompts one the throw the invariably partially-opened and mangled can across the room and through the nearest glass window, every time. It’s so bad that I can only assume it’s not MEANT to work, but rather inflict risk of injury and endless frustration if you are every forced to use one…

Expensive and not fit for purpose – Cost: $29, Coles. Performance: does not work as promised, the two blades just do not join closely enough to grip the edge of a tin to be cut. Useless right out of the package. Not fit for purpose, too expensive, poor design, poor construction and materials. Nobody should be stocking this item. Congratulations on adding to the already awful… Read more

Worst can opener I have ever owned – Have bought 2 in the last 4 weeks from my local Woolies . Worst can opener I have ever owned . They maybe open 3-4 cans then they just don’t work . Won’t be buying another one . Will definitely try another brand . It’s very frustrating when you in the middle of preparing a meal and have to stop to run back to the shop to buy another bloody can opener …. Show details

Broken wheel – Cutting wheel broke in half! The opener is only a few months old and barely used as most tins these days have a ring pull. Not at all happy with the quality of this product. Poor quality steel to break so easily.

Major disappointment – Had an older one that had worn out so replaced with new one and just wont work properly. Takes forever to open up beetroot or salmon cans. Its like the wheel is not long enough to pierce the can. Show details

Rubbish – Absolute waste of money, what rubbish this gadget is, impossible to open anything with it and it’s dangerous as the tiny bits it punctures causes you to cut your hands, terrible item and shouldn’t be allowed on the shelves to sell.

Works fine for me – This can opener works every time for me, you have pull the can openers “arms” apart and then push the opener onto the rim so the cutting wheel sits below the rim. Then push the arms together to pierce the can. Then twist. The lid comes off with the opener, then you separate the arms again and the lid falls off. Simple! Show details

It CANnot be used – I bought it to replace my most excellent Magican (original) that I've had for years. This is a piece of junk and waste of money. I am confused as to why it is still sold! I found sucess with the Joseph Joseph brand. Show details
Not fit for purpose – This product requires excessive amount of effort to use. It doesn't remove the lid cleanly it always leaves a little barb which if you don't watch out is potentially dangerous. My old Culinare lasted 30 years and was easy to use this new model is expensive and doesn't work. Unfortunately I didn't keep the receipt so I couldn't return it. Show details
Dangerous product – This can opener won’t open the edgell beetroot or any other can in our larder. Coles need to withdraw from sale. Leaves the lid half intact with sharp edges forcing you to discard or use a lever to remove lid. Culinare is a nightmare. Avoid like covid 19. Be cansafe Show details
