Totally hopeless and unusable – I made the mistake of buying a Culinare MagiCan when my old one had reached its end of use. What a disappointment. I feel totally ripped off as it just will not open a can. I bought based on previous experience with the brand, but this latest version is totally hopeless and just does not work. Do not buy this product.

Worse than useless – Not only is this the worst can opener I've ever encountered it's actually potentially dangerous. Because it cuts the side of the can where the paper labels are stuck on rather than the top, it can push a small amount of paper into the food in the can. It is truly terrible and should be removed by the authorities as it is a hazrd to human health. Show details

Terrible product – Mine worked once and that is it. Vastly overpriced too so they really promote it, with what I can only take to be "creative" reviews on a certain website. Show details

One star because there is no option for negative or zero stars – Purchased yesterday from Coles for $20. Now resides in the garbage bin. Unsuccessfully tried to open a can of beetroot, thought I might be doing something wrong so tried several other types of cans and a different operator, neither of us could manage to open any cans. I didn’t even try to get a refund, who keeps a receipt for a can opener, you… Read more

just expect it to perform as it should. Purchased an Oxy Good Grips Soft Handled Can Opener from a homeware store today for $29 ( recommended by the sales assistant ), and it works perfectly, as it should. Culinare needs to remove their new and improved Magican Can Opener from sale immediately as it simply does not work. Fraud, perhaps !

Horrendous product! – Bought this to replace our old Magican tin opener that lasted us over 10 years. This is utter rubbish it barely opens tins and it's brand new. I mean seriously it has one job to do and it can't even do that well! It's the perfect example of when good products go bad. They've taken a wonderful product that worked very well and utterly destroyed it… Read more

with this utter monstrosity all in the name of the $$$$$

Save your money and look elsewhere as you may as well just throw whatever you paid for it in the bin.

I wish I could have given it a ZERO star. Yes! It's that bad

Bring the original version back – I bought my first Magican about 15 years ago and it truly was magic. Sadly, I dropped it 4 weeks ago and the handle cracked making it impossible to use. However, loving it for so long I went out and bought another one, but a new model the same day. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The blade doest pierce the can properly and the… Read more

winding mechanism is so tight. When I can manage to actually get the blade through the can I can only open about 2cm and then have to take it off and move to a different spot and try again. Opening a regular can takes at least 5 minutes and much frustration. Literally the worst can opener ever.

Absolute rubbish. DO NOT BUY – So expensive and did not work. I had to replace the older model as it broke. This one just doesn’t work. Would Not cut or move around the can like the old one. Just makes holes and gets stuck in one spot. How do I get my money back or replacement.  Show details

Terrible product, doesn’t work – Never fully cuts around can. Usually have to do 4 or 5 cycles and then still have to bend off the lid. Leaves a very dangerous, sharp edge at the top of the can. Won’t ever buy this product again and now don’t trust the Culinare brand. Show details

Worst can opener I've ever had – This item never worked properly from the first day. I don't know why I persisted and kept using it. Probably because I only open about 2 cans a week. Finally, after about 6 months I bought a new one, different brand - what a difference. Works the way a can opener should. PS. Not sure if the model number I put in above is the correct one as there is no number on the product.

Disappointed customer – This is a terrible product . Did not cut the rim of the can at all and I watched the clip on how to use it . I wish i had of read the reviews before i purchased this product . Waste of money and Culinare should do a product recall and refund everyone .

Can opener? – I'm not sure what this product is supposed to do, but it definitely does not open cans. Maybe it should be relabelled to something like "Tool that can rotate around the top of a tin can without puncturing it."

Total waste of money – What a piece of crap. Wasted $14 on this useless can opener, which of course I didn’t find out until after I had thrown out the receipt and packaging. One job , to open tins of food. Too hard.

makes a mess – Because it cuts the side of the can and not the top any liquid spills out. Terrible design, they need to go back and look at what makes a can opener work well.

Flimsy, ineffective – My immediate impression on taking it out of the box was that it was very flimsy. When I tried to use it for the first time, this proved to be a significant problem, because the handles and mechanism would bend such that the handles were touching each other before the can had been pierced. So it's almost useless. It'll go back for a refund.

Can-not – This product should be withdrawn. Complaints are many. Is anybody satisfied with this rubbish? It couldn’t cut through butter let alone a tin can & could cause serious injury to someone

Useless – I used this opener for many years and it was brilliant. Then when mine got old and I replaced it, the new one was totally useless. It would open some parts of the can and over 5 minutes later I'd still be trying to open the can. I thought it was faulty so exchanged it for a new one. The new one is equally hopeless. Into the bin it goes. I'll never… Read more

buy another one. It seems the excellent ratings only are awarded to older models. The new ones are not the same.

The Culinare EasiCan which is cheaper, actually does work well.

Can't even open a salmon can, absolutely useless!!! – I have tried to use this to open an Kirkland salmon can. It cut through a few inches then the wheel started to spin. I had 2/3 open and 1/3 still attached. Had to throw out the can opener and can all together! Very disappointed with this product.

Total waste of money - does not work – Previous Magican “Culinaire” I bought 23 years ago was fabulous, so sought same product. 1 - is all plastic so handles don’t meet thus providing the incision. 2 Don’t even consider buying one. Extremely disappointing.

Complete garbage, can't believe Woolworths sells this dangerous junk – Can't open most tins. Also cuts whole flange off tin, leaving a dangerous sharp edge (rather than cutting the lid out of the flange). Went in the bin tonight. finished opening the the tin with a knife, faster and safer. Get yourself a normal top-cutting tin opener, save your time and money. And Woolworths buying department: get your act together.

Coles, Woolworths, why do you stock this? – A can opener, as the name suggests, should be able to open cans. I don't need it to sing to me, or entertain my child, but I would like it to open cans. This product does not. Do not buy it.

I am in awe! – Useless! Plain and simple, it does not open cans lol. The name Magican says it all really, because if you actually get a can to open with this stupid can opener it would be nothing short of a magic trick! It barely pierces the thin metal and if it does, it rolls straight off again! Hands down the most frustrating kitchen implement I've dealt with… Read more

to date. I literally feel like keying some cars or driving mine into a telegraph pole just to see some metal actually cut! I truly believe I would have more success opening a can with a cable tie! Seriously, unless you're Dynamo the Magician, do not buy this can opener!!!

Better off using a bread and butter knife to try and open a can!! – Omg....what a waste of money this purchase was! Went to open a can of beetroot for an Australia Day BBQ and this piece of crop just pierced the can enough for the juice to go everywhere and then just proceeded to mangle the can's lip so we couldn't use any other opener on hand. After skinning 2 knuckles, we finally got to the beetroot with tin snips and a pair of pliers, and you guessed it......the Magican went straight in the bin!!!

Culinare MagiCan from Woolworths – This would have to be the worst can opener & dangerous to boot. I have spent the last 15mins trying to open a can of beetroot to no avail. Complete rubbish – Had an old MagiCan for many years until the cutting disc became blunt and so the unit needed to be replaced. Bought another one and boy what a piece of junk. Just would not open a can after several uses. Very disappointed. Something has changed and not for the better. Never will buy again.

Lethal – Once opened the tin cans are left with extremely sharp edges that are lethal. After opening these would have to be kept well away from children and pets. Not recommended at all.

Wonderful customer service, great can opener! – We have used these can openers for years. They are by far the easiest way to open a can!
