DeWalt DW735-XE Questions & Answers
MPN: DW735-XEcan i sharpen the blades on this machine or are they reversable and disposable thereafter
Hi I am looking at this planer, I have 3m lengths of hardwood and hoping it handles the length ok. Any info appreciated Andrew
Goodaye Gus. I had a previous model before they changed the power rating but can tell you it will run fine. Length issues can be overcome easily by setting up an extension or grabbing a helping hand. The only problem you will face will be the depth of each pass. The Max depth is rated for 3mm but if your running hardwood would recommend 1mm passes or even less if your board is wider. If its mainly at home or on-site work, I do recommend this machine.
Overall this Is an excellent portable machine and one of the better in its class.
Thanks Mikey D I have rough sawn larger posts that require finish. They are 145 x 145 mixed HW 2-3 m Have a bit of work for it here. Hope it performs. Cheers Andrew
The only issue I have had with this unit is I burnt out the motor because I forgot to turn on my dust extractor , the unit has a very good fan in it and it’s quite load , the hose blocked and it over heated, dewalt were fantastic in quickly suppling a new one ( at cost as warranty was over ). As other have said , use stand or a guide and you will be ok
Hi Paul. Thanks for that info. I will keep my eye on the extraction hose. I am heading into town tomorrow to pick ig up. I have d at one adjustable stands which should work well for the extended tables. Cheers Again Andrew H
How do you stop the blades from moving/creeping up when feeding the timber through?
Dear Graham, I am a little puzzled by your problem that the blades are creeping up, the way the blades are fixed it doesn't seem possible that the blades could move in the cutter head at all. Have you made sure all the screws are tightened and the blade retainer is correctly located. Other than that I am afraid I cannot be of much help other than to say are you sure the blades are creeping up and the problem is not something more serious such as a problem with the cutter head itself. How old is your machine and has it done a lot of work. Regards Eugene
Thanks for taking the time to reply. The machine is new. The handle that adjust the blade height will move by itself.
Cheers,
Is it off putting with the imperial scale? - I usually finish my timber to metric. How do you find the planer knives that came with it? Do they blunt easily? And what about the rubber rollers, do you ever get any problems with slippage?
Hello David. Firstly I purchased mine when they released them with a metric scale which comes in handy as we use metric mainly in Australia. However the newer models are imperial as you have noticed which I can imagine is hard to get an accurate reading as we always use metric which is alot simpler.
The planer blades are of good quality. I've run through both hard and softwoods and still are sharp, however I only do small jobs with them. They are designed to be disposable thus the double sided blades however they do have a little depth on the bevel to allow sharpening. Overall decent blades for the money.
As for the rubber rollers, I have no problems with them. I keep them clean so they don't clog up as to keep up optimum machine performace. Keeping your bed clean and waxed also helps reduce the possibly of slipping as it allows material to slide easier along the metal bed.
Hope I have helped and please feel free to ask any more questions if you need help.
Thanks. Very informative.
My planer has mainly metric scales, the only imperial scale on it is on the right hand side on the depth setting scale and that scale has metric on one side and imperial on the other. The depth of cut scale is metric and the thickness stop scale is also metric. I purchased my planer In December 2015, I would be surprised if DeWalt have decided to ship units to Australia with just imperial scales since I purchased my unit but perhaps they have. Have you actually looked at the planer in a store to check the scales as it is possible that even Australian sites such as Sydney tools are using illustrations based on USA advertising so the scales would be shown as imperial, its just a thought but worth checking out. As far as the blades go I agree with Mikey they are of good quality and cut well, If you are going to push through a lot of tough hardwood then they will naturally suffer but being two sided is a bonus. I have experienced no slippage problems with the rollers but like Mikey I keep things clean and the bed waxed. I find the planer is the best I have ever used and I have used at least four other brands.
yeah I didn't think of that. Sounds like a good unit. I used mainly pine and occasional decking. Thanks for the info. It's worth much more than an advertising blurb.
