Doust Tap Washer

Started off OK, but failed after less than a year. In the photo, the valve on the right is unused; the one on the left had been installed less than a year ago. After use the softer plastic insert compresses or wears so that it no longer sits proud of the harder plastic body, and the tap starts to drip. Show details
Best tap washers I've used. They last maybe 2-3 years which is fine by me. This afternoon I used two cheaper varieties on my old dripping tap and ... drip...drip unless it was very tightly turned off. So I got out my last two more expensive Doust washers and ... bob's your uncle. No more dipping and the tap is easy to use i.e. not tight. PS I just… Read more
ducked into the bathroom to check the tap before posting and...no drip. Edit: Washer passed the "overnight test" i.e. no drip in the morning. Thank you Doust. I'm a happy chappie!
As a experienced home renovator, I bought these years ago and at that time thought they were rubbish. Tried them again recently believing perhaps they have changed because they're still for sale. Nope. Just absolutely useless for what is claimed. Almost to the point of you're better off without any washer, they're that bad.
The main purpose is to replace a worn or damaged internal tap washer. Over time, the washer material on the original washer can degrade, harden, or become damaged, preventing it from forming a perfect seal against the tap seat. Replacing the old washer with a new Doustvalve restores this crucial sealing function. Benefits of using a Doustvalve… Read more
Tap Washer: - It promises "Cannot be damaged by over tightening". This works well for one of my taps. - Effective Leak Repair: When a tap is leaking from the spout due to a faulty internal valve, replacing it with a Doustvalve is often a highly effective solution to stop the drip. - Cost-Efficient: Repairing a leaking tap with a replacement valve is significantly less expensive than purchasing and installing a brand new tap. - Widely Available: Doustvalve tap washers are standard plumbing components and are readily available in most hardware and plumbing supply stores. - DIY Repair Potential: For those with basic tools and a little plumbing know-how, replacing a tap valve with a Doustvalve is a relatively straightforward easy DIY task. - Provides 5 years warranty
Limitations: - Body of the tap washer is plastic. So micro-plastic could leak into water. So my suggestion is not to use this washer for taps, which you use for drinking or cooking water. - Material Lifespan: While designed for durability, the washer material on the Doustvalve will eventually wear out over time, especially with frequent use and varying water conditions, necessitating future replacement. - The thickness of the rubber head is not enough - Didn't work this for one of my taps.
The commonality of product reviews – As the inventor and manufacturer of the DoustValve tap washer the commonality of product reviews is that when people are unhappy they are more likely to express their experiences in social media while the majority of people never experiencing any difficulties seldom do and therefore I greatly appreciate those people who have. Many Thanks Philip Doust
Made from plastic doomed to fail – They claim they are impossible to over tighten. I beg to differ! I installed a set in two showers The main shower started dripping after a couple of weeks so we tightend them more and more over the course of a couple of months. Just got around to replacing them today. They were flared out and cracked. So all in all they lasted about 3 months before they were useless. I guess since we use the other shower much less we might get a 12 months.
Great AUSTRALIAN product – Just installed 2 Doust valves and I am completely happy with them. I will continue to replace the rest of the house with Doust. I haven't done hot shower yet but will see how that goes. I agree with the plumber who said understand how the thing works before giving a bad review. If the seat is rough or damaged then the seal won't be any good. Show details
Best tap washer money can buy – I have Doust tap washers instaled on every tap in my house and would not use anything else. Easy to turn on and off with little effort and no drips. First installed in shower 8 years ago and still the same as when I installed them. Great product Show details
Don't fit to a hot tap – As described by others, this product is not suitable for hot taps, especially a shower. As the valve thermally expands it dramatically shuts down the hot water supply, making it necessary to adjust the flow continually for 2 minutes before it will flow at a steady rate. When closing the tap again, if it is just closed to the point that the water… Read more
stops running, it will start to drip again when it cools. I contacted the manufacturer who is more than aware of the issue and their solution was ridiculous......."turn the hot tap on first"......which makes no difference at all(unless you turn it on for 2 mins before your shower!)
Doesn't Stop Leaks - False Claim! – I bought the Doustvalve washer to stop a tap hammer. It did, bu tthen my tap leaked gradually more and more everyday! I swapped the Doustvalve for a cheap washer. The leak stopped. This product doesn't stop leaks. Show details
Best tap washers I've ever used – I've had Doust washers installed in every tap (hot and cold) throughout the house for 10 years now and they all still as well as they did when new. Zero drips and no need to tighten beyond (light) finger tight. Can highly recommend. As with any tap washers, you need to ensure the mating surface is clean and smooth before installation. Have used other washers in the past e.g. Hydroseal and Doust washers have far outlasted anything else.
Stick to your day jobs and pay a plumber to fix your dripping taps – I am a plumber, have nothing to do with Doust washers. Maybe if the bad reviewers got a plumber in to fix the seats they would not drip. Why blame a product when you don't understand how taps work.
Waste of time and money – Just did not do the job (dripping shower). I replaced it with a cheaper product which worked fine. Was recommended by specialist in Bunnings but proved to be pretty much useless. Show details

Know better, choose better.
Just didn't stop the dripping – I reseated the taps on a hand basin then reinstated the taps with these washers. Dripping was still there. After repeating the process, still dripping. Went back to Bunnings and purchased another brand of washer. No more dripping taps!
Rubbish Product – Drip proof technology: product does not live up to it's stated purpose or performance. Installed the Doustvalve with "Drip Proof Technology". Drips constantly upon installation. 5 year guarantee on a product that doesn't work from day 1. Save your money and avoid this product. Lesser priced washers perform better.
These washers do exactly what it says on the packet – These washers are easy to install and aave a no drip function. Yes they do expand a little on the hot water side but I have found this a very small problem; just a little bit of regulation and all good. If you think this might be a problem just install normal premier washers on the hot water side in the shower you defenately can install the… Read more
doust washers on all the other taps hot or cold with no problems. These washers are positively no drip and last a long time with an easy turn off and on can’t overtighten ....
Our Plumber Recommended The Doust Valve – We have tried other tap washes with not much success. Our plumber recommended we install Doust Valves in our taps. Now we have them throughout the whole house, we've even installed them in our garden taps! :) They're really soft to turn off and no drips. We won't use anything else!
Great – I thought Doust was exaggerating - the ultimate and only active drip proof tap washer in the world, but after numerous attempts with other washers it actually works and cannot be damaged by overtightening
Don't waste your time and money on claims that are too good to be true – I totally agree with the other reviewers. I found the product did stop taps from dripping, but in every other respect completely useless. It is near impossible to adjust the water flow rate, which makes it extremely difficult to set the temperature in a shower. Even if you do get it right, the flow rate of the hot water changes as the valve heats… Read more
up, so you have to keep making adjustments for at least a couple of minutes. I just gave up! The standard Delaware brass tap valve is far superior, and gives the control needed for adjusting shower temperature. It doesn't leak either, and doesn't cost as much.
Terrible product with an expensive price tag – After i put on this washer, my tap became a machine gun when turning on a bit... the rattling could be heard from my neighbours and felt like impact drilling on my brick wall! then i changed back to the cheapest plain plastic and rubber washer everything went back fine! I'll stick with the cheap washer.. even it's not that 'endura'...
Example of sounds too good to be true – It is drip proof, easy to turn off etc. But the washer expands with hot water and makes it very difficult to adjust for a shower as the flow reduces as it heats up. You might need to adjust it ten times before settling on a good position.
Doesn't live up to expectations – I have successfully used these washers in a few taps, but a couple of months ago two taps with newly-instaleld Doust washers started dripping. I fixed the first by installing a new valve seat and replacing the Doust washer with a Hydroseal one. The seat in the second seemed okay. So I replaced the Doust washer with a Hydroseal one. Problem solved.
Not as good as claimed - poor results – The packet states "The ultimate and only active, drip proof tap washer in the world", "easy turn off, long lasting", "drip proof technology" , "revolutionary design", "5 year guarantee" etc. When claims are too good to be true, they are not true: I replaced an older washer in the laundry, but within weeks the tap had to be turned very very… Read more
tightly or it would leak. Within a few more weeks it was just impossible to close unless you had a gorilla grip and it dripped a lot.
I have replaced many tap washers before, of different kinds, and I also reamed the tap before I put in this tap washer. So this was not due to incorrect fitting, my inexperience etc.
When I did replace the Doust washer with another make, the leaking was immediately fixed and it is easy to turn off the tap.
