Dremel 4200
3 reviews
The Dremel lasted about 5 months and despite being advised it was a trade quality tool has started overheating and making grinding noises after only 4 months of medium intensity workload
Follow-up · I was using a small sanding flap wheel to smooth the interior of a split didgeridoo, I have done more carving on the same gum tree wood didgeridoo and the dremel is working well. Apparently it really does not like the flap sanding wheels.
Purchased in at Bunnings Warehouse Retail Stores for $249.
Works perfectly! – This is actually my second Dremel product. The first one was a Dremel 3000. I used this model for a little over 2 years before it finally died on me in the middle of one of my home projects. That's when I decided to get the 4200, which is a significant upgrade over the 3000. So far, I've had no problems with its performance. It cuts, sands, grinds the way it's meant to. Compared to the 3000, the 4200 is more powerful yet easier to operate due to its speed settings. Also, the newer model has a better range of accessories than its predecessor.
New Management - Improved Product? – Having a need for a small cutting, carving and polishing tool I have purchased several bands, with a bias towards Dremel. As noted in other reviews some Dremels do not make it to the end of the warranty period - of the last three model 3000 purchased, one lasted about 14 months, a week outside warranty and the other less than six months. In each case they simply stopped never to go again. For the unit under warranty Bunnings agreed to credit the amount paid for the model 3000 towards a model 4200 [not to be confused with the older 4000]. During this process it became evident that Dremel is now part of Robert Bosch Australia who appear keen to forget the past history and presenting a new range of product. So far the 4200 has proven superior to the 3000 having more power and far less operational dBs. It also comes with a good range of accessories, in particular the flexi drive which I have found essential as the 4200 is marginally larger and heavier than the 3000. Another worthwhile feature is the dual switches for setting operational speed and turning the unit on/off. It is to be hoped that the new Bosch/Dremel partnership also improves the reliability of the product.
